  1. File Name: Airships File Submitter: Stephen1918 File Submitted: 10 March 2013 File Category: First Eagles Object Mods Dirigibles were used by both sides on all fronts during World War I. Early in the war, they were used for recon and bombing, but were soon replaced by aircraft. However, because they could stay aloft for long periods, and their ability to hover, airships continued to be used for naval operations, especially for scouting and anti-submarine patrols. I have created five different types of airship. They are all identified as "Balloon" and they are all armed with machine guns. Drop them into your Ground Object folder and they will show up over the battlefields for more challenging balloon busting missions. I have included alternate skins for some of them so you can use them for different nations. Historical Notes The R23 and L32 are relatively accurate models of actual airships. The Type M, Type PL, and Type VZ are more or less generic representations of popular airship types which were used by different nations. I have averaged out the national and manufacturer variations, but the overall size and shape is relatively accurate. I have taken liberties with the gondolas and simplified the rigging in order to keep file size down and frame rate up. Installation Instructions Unzip the file and copy the folders you want into your FirstEagles/Objects/GroundObject folder. Click here to download this file
  2. Airships

Sorry yamato74, I've done a lot of testing in different terrains and the airships always seem to explode. I don't know what is causing your problem. Try posting a question in the regular forum and see if anyone else is having a similar issue.
  3. Airships

The airships should explode the same way balloons do. They have no armor at all so they should go after just a few hits.
  4. Bubu, thanks for your comments. I don't think it's possible to make an effect part of the TOD for the tile, so they're going to have to be placed manually.

Terrain builders can use these to add some detail to the battlefields in their terrains. Using two of the craters from the First Eagles Objects.cat file, I have created a new smoke effect and made entries for the Types.ini so that these can be added to the Targets.ini of any terrain. There are two different sized craters, and two different sized smoke effects. I used my Galicia2 terrain for testing. I added craters to the Targets.ini following the Ground_Attack routes from the Movement.ini. Now when I fly Army Cooperation missions I see a pretty active battlefield. Installation should be self explanatory: Add the two effects to your Effects folder, add the two LOD and the BMP files to your terrain folder, add the types data to your Types.ini, then place the crater positions in your Target.ini. I want to thank Wrench for his support and encouragement.
  6. What do we need?

I was trying to bring some action to the battlefields, trying to make it look like the battle started before you got there. I was looking for something like smouldering debris rather than a raging fire. I kept it kind of low to the ground to reduce the impact on frame rate. It's enough to obscure the battlefield and make targeting a little more challenging. There will be other kinds of effects as the ground units shoot each other up, so you'll get some variety, as you can see in my screen shots. I experimented with a lot of the existing effects (and Wrench did too) but I ended up making some new ones. I made two - a large one and a smaller one. You of course can use different effects or modify them if you want bigger or higher smoke effects.
  7. What do we need?

Today I uploaded a couple of smoking craters (large and small) for terrain builders to use on their battlefields. I ended up making my own smoke effect. I added about a dozen craters to each of the ground attack routes in the Galicia2 terrain and they don't seem to affect frame rate at all. Combined with the effects you normally see on an Army Cooperation mission, it makes a pretty lively battlefield. Since they made an Early and Late category for First Eagles downloads, I'm providing a link: http://combatace.com/files/file/15766-smoking-craters-for-battlefields/

  10. File Name: Infantry Units File Submitter: Stephen1918 File Submitted: 10 February 2012 File Category: First Eagles Object Mods I have created 10 new infantry units for First Eagles. They are all pretty much identical except for their helmets and uniform colors. Each unit is a five man squad (three riflemen and two runners.) The units will move around and the riflemen will aim and fire independently. I have created a dust effect for when they are moving and I've created a gunshot sound for their rifles. The rifles are based on Peter01's rifle data, with my sound effect and a few other minor changes. All the Entente units use the Lee Enfield rifle, and all the Central units use the Mauser. This download includes infantry units for: Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Austria, Belgium, Russia, America, Australia, and Turkey. I couldn't bring myself to kill the poor guys, so they just disappear when they get shot. Credits My thanks to Heck and Geo for leading the way! Thanks also to Peter01 for his original rifle data files. Installation Instructions Unzip the file and copy the units you want from my GroundObjects folder into your FirstEagles/Objects/GroundObjects folder. Copy the sound file "InfantryRifle.wav" from my Sounds folder into your FirstEagles/Sounds folder. Copy the dust effect "RunningInfantryEmitter.ini" from my Effects folder into your FirstEagles/Effects folder. Follow the instructions for installing the guns and sound in the two other instruction files included with the download. Click here to download this file
  11. Albatros D.I

    Version v2

    383 downloads

The Albatros D.I was the first in a long line of successful Albatros fighters. It had a molded plywood fuselage, which made it lightweight but strong. With its powerful engine and dual machine guns it outclassed any Entente fighters in the air at the time. The biggest drawback to the D.I was the position of the upper wing, which obscured the pilot's view. Production quickly switched to the D.II which was basically the same plane but with the upper wing mounted lower. The download includes three skins, a basic linen, a grey paint, and a 2 color camo. There is also a full a full set of serial number decals. The skinning templates are identical to the Albatros D.II templates, I have included them in this download for the sake of convenience. This plane uses the same engine sound as the Albatros D.II, which you probably already have. I have placed an alternate line in the data file to change the sound to the default "PropLoop" sound if you prefer. Credits My thanks to Ojcar for making the data file for the Albatros D.I. Installation Instructions For FE1 - Unzip the file and move the folder named "AlbatrosD1" into your FirstEagles/Objects/Aircraft folder. For FE2 - Unzip the file and move the folder named "AlbatrosD1" into your FirstEagles/Objects/Aircraft folder. Then in the FirstEagles/Objects/Decals folder, create a new folder named "AlbatrosD1." Move the folder named "D" from the Aircraft/AlbatrosD1 folder into the Decals/AlbatrosD1 folder you just made.
  12. Storm Over The Sahara

The Galicia terrain is 500x500 meters, which is "standard" for FE. SF has bigger tiles because the planes fly faster and you'll run out of terrain quicker. Palestine was originally made by Gepard for SF, its tiles are 2000x2000 meters (16 times bigger!) Maybe you could focus on just the airfield tiles, since you're more likely to see them up close - if you can figure out how to blend them with the existing tiles. Switching around is good
  13. Storm Over The Sahara

The terrain tiles in Palestine are very much bigger than in other FE terrains, so there will always be some blurring at ground level. For me, getting the edges to blend to the next tile is a pain, especially since the tiles can be rotated, so each tile needs to have a four-way symmetry that still looks random from the air! My minor experience with terrains has given me a great admiration for the people who make terrains!
  14. File Name: Farman F.30 File Submitter: Stephen1918 File Submitted: 09 July 2015 File Category: Other Entente Aircraft Russia was the only country that used the French designed Farman F.30. While no other allies adopted it, the F.30 was the primary plane of the Imperial Russian Air Service and the Russians built about 400 of them at the Dux factory near Moscow beginning in 1915. It was used throughout WWI and was used by both sides during the Russian Civil Wars. The Farman F.30 was powered my a Salmson 150hp water-cooled engine, had a single machine gun for the observer, and was said to be able to maneuver as well as the Eindeckers it faced. It was a general purpose plane, used originally as a fighter, and later for recon, artillery spotting, and light bomber missions. My plane includes a loadout for a light bomb load. Decals and my skinning templates are included in the download. I have included ojcar's "DummyMachineGun" data, Peter01's Lewis Machine Gun data in the download. Warning The Farman F.30 has a wider wingspan than First Eagles expects so you should install my "Airfields for Large Planes" available in the Combat Ace downloads area. Otherwise, when starting on the runway, your wings may be touching the wings of the planes next to you. This will cause an immediate collision and you or other planes in your flight may lose their wingtips as soon as the game starts. Credits Thanks to Ojcar for making the data file for the Farman F.30 and for making the data for the dummy machine gun. Thanks also to Peter01 who made the data for the Lewis Gun. Thanks also to Crowford who provided resources for the Farman cockpits. Installation Instructions For FE1 - Unzip the file. Move the folder named "FarmanF30" into your FirstEagles/Objects/Aircraft folder. For FE2 - Unzip the file. Move the folder named "FarmanF30" into your FirstEagles/Objects/Aircraft folder. Then in the FirstEagles/Objects/Decals folder, create a new folder named "FarmanF30". Move the folder named "D" from your Aircraft/FarmanF30 folder into the Decals/FarmanF30 folder you just made. You may not need to install the guns, they have been used on other planes and you may already have them. Instructions for installing the guns, if you should need them, are in a separate file included in this download. Click here to download this file
  15. Farman F.30

I have uploaded the Farman F.30, an early version of the F.40 and the main plane of the Imperial Russian Air Service. The upload includes insignia decal, a small bomb load, and my skinning templates. The F.30 had a 150hp engine and was said to be able to maneuver as well as the Eindeckers it encountered on the Eastern Front. It was used (only by the Russians - the other allies didn't use it) throughout World War I and by both sides in the Civil Wars.

  18. Armchair Aces updated!

Ojcar, your campaigns keep getting better and better. I appreciate all your work on the upgrades.
  19. What do we need?

I like where you're going with this. FE has several different sized craters. Maybe a mixture would be appropriate - large craters with heavy smoke, small craters with light smoke, etc.
  20. What do we need?

Thanks Wrench. I never wrote a data file, I was just looking for something fast that I could put in the types.ini and would be there before it was destroyed. With a data file and an engine, you could probably attach just about any emitter for the exhaust. The ShipSmoke would probably work pretty good.
  21. What do we need?

Here's an idea that has potential, but needs more work. I played with this when I made the Galicia terrain, but was not satisfied with it. I extracted the Crater.LOD and the Crater.BMP from the Objects.ini and put them in the Terrain folder. Then I made a Types that used the SmokeStackEffect from the factory. Then I placed a few in the Targets near a battlefield. I played around with some of the other effects, but only the smoke stack seemed to work. Someone who understands effects and emitters better than I do could make an effect with darker, thicker smoke. [TargetTypeXXX] Name=Crater FullName=Crater ModelName=Crater.lod TargetType=MISC ActiveYear=0 TargetValue=0 UseGroundObject=FALSE DamagePoint=0.0 ArmorValue=0.0 ArmorType=0 RepairRate=2 StartDetectChance=0 StartIdentifiedChance=0 IncreaseDetectChanceKey=0 MaxVisibleDist=6000.0 Effect=SmokeStackEffect EffectOffset=0.00,0.00,0.00 Some of these around Gterl's explosion effect would add more action to the battle fields. That's my Farman F.30 in the shot. I'm going to finish that before I start anything new.
  22. File Name: Cavalry Units for First Eagles File Submitter: Stephen1918 File Submitted: 01 July 2015 File Category: First Eagles - WWI and Early Years - Object Mods Horse mounted cavalry were an important part of all armies in World War I. There weren't as many open field charges as in the 19th Century, but there were some. The biggest advantage of cavalry was that they could move into position quickly to reinforce a weak spot or exploit a breakthrough. I have created 6 new cavalry units for First Eagles. They are all similar to the cavalry I made for the Palestine and Galicia terrains. Each is a three man squad. There are two versions of each nationality - a "Charging" group which will function as a tank in Army Co-operation missions, and a "Patroling" group which will function as a truck in Armed Reconnaissance missions. On the Western Front, there were very few horse mounted charges across no-mans land after 1915. They happened more often on the other fronts, especially on the Eastern Front and in Palestine. But having cavalry patrol units moving behind the lines is very realistic for all the fronts in First Eagles. Some of the charging groups have pistols, but I have used the infantry rifle data for them. There is also a dust emitter used for both versions. The dust emitter and rifle data are the same as those used in the infantry units I made some time ago. This download includes cavalry units (two each) for: Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Russia, and Turkey. I couldn't bring myself to kill the poor guys, so they just disappear when they get shot up. Credits Thanks to Peter01 for his original rifle data files. Installation Instructions Unzip the file and copy the units you want from my GroundObjects folder into your FirstEagles/Objects/GroundObjects folder. I have uploaded some new cavalry units for First Eagles. There are six nations - France, Britain, Russia, Italy, Germany, and Turkey. Each has two versions a "tank" version (attacking) and a "truck" version (patrolling). Put them in your Ground Objects folder and they will show up for some of your Army Co-operation and Armed Reconnaissance missions.
  24. Fokker D.III

File Name: Fokker D.III File Submitter: Stephen1918 File Submitted: 29 June 2015 File Category: Fokker The Fokker D.III was a more powerful version of the D.II, using the same wings and tail as the D.II. It had a 14 cylinder Oberursal rotary engine, which required changes to the fuselage but allowed the plane to carry two Spandau machine guns. Unfortunately, the engine had a low compression rate and the plane lost power at high altitudes. Never-the-less, German ace Oswald Boelcke scored 7 victories in 13 days flying a Fokker D.III. I have made two skins - a plain white linen, and a two color (brown and green) camo. I have also made a full set of serial number decals. My skinning templates are included in the download. Credits My thanks to Ojcar for making the data file for the Fokker D.III, and for providing helpful reference material for the engine and cowling.
