  1. Love the look of this Cowboy Game

The first game in this series was extremely linear and console-ish. Not much fun on the PC. If anyone gets this new one, let us know how it is!
  2. Bernie Madoff gets 150 years...

Well that's just it...the judge threw the book at him...maximum possible sentence. I'm sick to death of people taking pleasure in this sort of thing while murderers, killers and rapists get off easy.
  3. Bernie Madoff gets 150 years...

Why shouldn't he get parole during his lifetime?
  4. Bernie Madoff gets 150 years...

Well, as I said, I think he should have received jail time. But a 150-year sentence for a non-violent crime to me is just another sign of how far out of control our judicial system is.
  5. Bernie Madoff gets 150 years...

I think that this is the true definition of cruel and unusual punishment. I believe he should have received jail time for his crimes, but 150 years? In the first place I hate it when they give out sentences that are longer than a human life span. They should be honest and say "you are sentenced to prison for the rest of your life." In the second place the nature of the crime does not warrant such an extreme sentence. Please consider this: Donte Stallworth, the Cleveland Browns wide receiver, got 24 days for vehicular homicide while driving intoxicated.
  6. August 09 Motor Trend

I believe there are some videos of this on the MotorTrend site.
  7. All of the planes in NATO Fighters are converted to Series 2 in NF4+.
  8. Bernie Madoff gets 150 years...

And Frank and Dodd remain free. Sad.
  9. F-22J?

For the Japanese, the needs include maintaining a credible deterrence against Russia, China and North Korea. China being the biggest military threat. OK, so you can choose between, say, 100 F-22s or 300 of some off-brand aircraft. When figuring the total cost of ownership you have to factor in the need to recruit, train and deploy 3x more pilots. Maintain and provide spares for 3x more aircraft, as well as recruit train and support a larger number of maintenance and logistics personnel. You also have to buy, store and maintain as many as 3x more weapons and stores, including training rounds, etc. You have to purchase and store up to 3x more fuel. You likely need to buy more tankers to support the operations of a larger fleet. You need up to 3x more basing area. So is the value proposition of buying more cheaper aircraft as good as you think it is? So, if you put a squadron of F-22s in combat, fully integrated with their AWACS to leverage the Raptor's unprecedented electronic integration, exactly what do you think has a chance of touching it? Of course no plane is untouchable, but...wait a sec...no F-15s ever lost to enemy aircraft...on second thought maybe untouchability is achievable.
  10. Su-30MKI crashes, pilot killed

Even if HAL does have good production quality control, it can't make up for flaws in design, which is what seems to have caused this crash. Modern aircraft can't fly without their computers, so it is mind-boggling that irreversible switches to turn off that computer should be in a place that is accessible in flight. Why not behind an access panel or actually on the computer itself in the avionics bay? To lose such an expenise aircraft and a life due to misplaced and confusing switches is a real shame.
  11. I've done that to myself more times than I care to remember. Ugh.
  12. Pretty close to that myself. Probably keep a WOI install until SF2I comes out then go the full monty.

NEVER LISTEN TO THAT SONG AGAIN!!!! Sounds like a Twilight Zone plot. Seriously though I was really enjoying watchin Pitchmen. If was fun to see what went on behind the scenes of Billy's commercials.
  15. Billy Mays R.I.P.

    Nuts!
  16. F-22J?

  17. F-22J?

We need to retain the jobs, we need the fighters, and we could really use the Japanese business. And from his perspective I don't see why adding another few billion to the deficit really makes a difference.
  18. New PC questions/thoughts

Everything you listed seems to be from a good manufacturer, which is probably the most important thing. Super-cheap off-brand stuff is where you usually run into problems. On a high-end system like you've specified, my only additional suggestion would be to get a small, fast HDD to use as a dedicated drive for the swap file. Connect this to a separate SATA channel from your main HDD. I use a 36GB Raptor for this job and it allows the system to remain very responsive when under a heavy load. Oh, one other thing...make sure your GTX 260 is one of the later models with 216 cores enabled instead of the original model that only had 192 cores active.
  19. F-22J?

There was an AP story about it this morning. The twelve additional F-22s and the alternate engine program for the F-35 are the two major programs they mentioned as being against Obama's military sensibilities.
  20. Forward-Looking Infrared pod. Not all A-7s were modified to carry it. Typically, beginning in the late 1970s, one of the two A-7 squadrons deployed on each carrier would be FLIR-capable. The FLIR pod allows an infrared image to be displayed on the radar scope, which has benefits at night and in other low visibility conditions. In the A-7, it is not a targeting pod.
  21. New PC questions/thoughts

Probably. I've been running a C2D 3Ghz processor over clocked to 3.6Ghz for a long time now and I still feel no need to upgrade. I think it will be viable for at least another year or two.
  22. F-22J?

Obama has now threatened to veto the spending package because of the extended F-22 production and other things he has proclaimed unnecessary. I guess those worn out F-15s will have to soldier on.
  23. ThirdWire's site will be down tomorrow morning for a couple of hours. Do not freak out. http://bbs.thirdwire.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=6678
  24. Michael Jackson... Dead

TMZ is reporting, and a lot of outlets including Drudge are picking it up, that MJ has died: http://www.tmz.com/
