NATO Fighters III Released
column5 replied to column5's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Thanks! There will be one more NF release for WOE Classic...NF4 will add a 1986 campaign with appropriate aircraft. Already working on it! After Gorbachev fails to secure the cancellation of SDI at Reykjavik, the hardline communist faction stages a coup and launces a pre-emptive strike on NATO. Once WOE2 is released I will port the series over and continue working on it for the new platform. -

B-1B Lancer AKA "The Bone"

Feel free to worship me, though. I have no problem with it. Does anyone else have that dream where you are standing on top of a temple in sort of sun-god robes surrounded by a thousand naked women screaming and throwing little pickles at you? Why am I the only one who has that dream? -
OK, NF3 is on the fast track now. The pack is complete but I still have some hangar screens to make and testing to do. I hope to be able to release it by the middle of March, if not sooner. In order to get this out ASAP, I tightened up and limited the new additions to what you will see below. However, with the release of the Mirage Factory MiG-29 immenent, I am already working on NF4 which will be released this summer and include a new 1985 scenario. I've done some testing with carriers and it all works fine, but some key aircraft and ships are still missing, so we'll have to play that by ear. NF4 will be the last release for WOE Classic...after that focus will shift to WOE/SF2. Here is the final list of mods that will be included: A-7D (1979) Super Mystere B.2 (1962) F-4G_Early (1979) F-101C (1962) RF-101C (1962) F-111D (1979) G91-R3 (1968, 1979) Javelin FAW.9 (1962) Mirage IIIC (1968) Mirage IIIE (1979) Su-9B (AI Only) MiG-25PD (AI Only) Widesky by cellinsky Brain32 Tile Repaint Syrinx RAF Serials JSF Highway Airstrips As well as some tweaks and updates for some of the older planes. Order of battle to follow...

THIRD WIRE FEATURES
column5 replied to Veltro2k's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Voted Other. I think the campaign, mission planning functions and mission builder all go together. I think the game in its current state is a great source of quick single missions but the depth of the campaigns and the pre-mission functions really need to be fleshed out. -
Your Toughest Opponent
column5 replied to Caesar's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
One of the reasons why the MiG-17 is such a tough adversary is that the AI breaks down when it comes to section tactics. In the game, if you unload/extend in your Phantom, the MiG-17 will always attempt to chase you. Now in real life this should make him meat for your wingman or any other friendly in the neighborhood, but in-game the AI simply does not respond appropriately, and you are left with the option of extending out a few miles, turning around and coming back with a head-on gun or Sparrow shot. This is unfortunate because it is the reverse of what actually occurred in Vietnam, with the Fresco being swatted out of the sky like flies and the Fishbed considered the more dangerous foe. -
Trek had an awesome thing going with DS9, but for whatever reason they have completely abandoned it.

At this point, I'll settle for soon relative to Stiglr (ass) becoming a friendly, supportive, contributing member of the community. -

Too Bad this feature is not fully usable...YET I hope ... GUESS ?
column5 replied to Veltro2k's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
No, that wasn't real refueling. It was a trick with the throttle settings that reversed fuel flow. -

Nice model! TK has been pretty clear that refueling is not being planned. -

TMF MiG-29s Released!
column5 replied to column5's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
What would be hell of cool is if you could use TrackIR as a helmet-mounted sight, look over your shoulder and toss off an Archer or ASRAAM. -

The Archer is a potent weapon, though. It would be even more so if the game supported high off-boresight launches. But I find merging with the Fulcrum to raise the "pucker factor" significantly. Its going to be a worthy opponent for the new Tomcats! -

As someone said I like having a Red plane that can really give a challenge. Along with the Su-27 and my modded MiG-25 it makes flying over Europe really dangerous...are those blips on my radar easily-dispatched Fishbeds or... -

No argument from me--Top Gun is a bombing school now!

Below 20,000 feet an A-4F can out-turn an F-15. Everything depends on forcing the enemy to fight in the regime where your plane performs best, or so I am led to believe. Also, at Red Flag I am sure that the adversary pilots do not go out to win every fight at all costs--they are there to mimic enemy tactics and allow the student pilots to win if they use the correct counter-tactics.
