  1. Much as I like Americans

Cases like this are on the fringe, but we do have too many examples of animal hoarding here in the States. Although I am quite a proponent for the humane treatment of animals, I must put personal liberty and property rights first. A federal law against owning endangered species would probably be a good idea (I would have thought one was already on the books, but it seems not). After that it must be left to local communities to enact and enforce ordinances dealing with animal ownership, such as the maximum number of animals that can be kept in one house. As ever, enforcement is the problem as we cannot allow the authorities access to our homes without due process.
  2. Indeed the rarely seen YF-105A shared the Thunderflash intake design.
  3. OT Ham..The Space Chimp

I always feel bad for the animals that other countries shot into orbit without any intention of recovering.
  4. OT Who'd be a parent?

My dad only had to get rough with me a couple of times when I was a teenager, but in all cases it was the right thing to do. I wouldn't worry about it being the "weak" choice. Sometimes its exactly what a kid needs.
  5. OT: Attention Fantasy RPG Fans

Thanks for the link. Been a fan of the Elder Scrolls since Morrowind. My Oblivion install was massive due to all of the mods. For anyone who hasn't tried it, check out this fan-created mod for Oblivion: http://www.lostspires.com/ It adds a complete new guild with a full story that is--believe it or not--as good as if not better than anything in the basic game.
  6. NF5 ?

    Thunder flashes? Love 'em.
  7. Flying the Buccaneer by Peter Caygill is an excellent resource for those interested in this aircraft. http://www.amazon.com/FLYING-BUCCANEER-Britains-Cold-Warrior/dp/1844156699/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1318034249&sr=8-2

  11. Uhm, pardon me but when that BUFF starts its engines those Apaches are going to be cartwheeling all over the ramp...
  12. I just finished reading 15 Minutes by Douglas Keeney. Its a very worthwhile read for anyone interested in the USAF, SAC, or the Cold War in general. The book does not have a narrative so to speak, it recoutns a number of interrelated events from the 1940s to the 1970s involving SAC and American nuclear policy during the period. Many of these are fascinating but for me the most enlightening was the story of the Texas Towers. These were a series of air defense radar stations mounted on towers akin to oil rigs stationed in the Atlantic. The amount of effort that went into designing, deploying and maintaining these installations is staggering, and all to gain a few precious minutes of additional warning of a Soviet attack. Unfortunately, the story of these towers ends in tragedy, and the link below gives a good account: http://www.thetexastowers.com/
  13. I'm very interested in working on an NF5 when the game makes its next evolutionary leap forward. TK is always reserved when he talks about his future plans, and his latest posts don't give much insight into what the future holds.
  14. Happy Birthday

  15. It's Major Lee's Birthday!

  16. File Name: Mirage Factory F-14A and F-14B Tomcat File Submitter: column5 File Submitted: 23 Jun 2010 File Updated: 23 Jun 2010 File Category: SF2 Series Add On Aircraft Grumman’s F-14 Tomcat could be described as the Marilyn Monroe of aircraft designs. Both were at once beautiful and flawed, with indelible public images and yet often misunderstood and misrepresented. Both also met untimely ends. For many, the aircraft will always be remembered as the star of the hit 1986 movie Top Gun, but the Tomcat was a real weapon on the front lines of the Cold War, personifying the technological prowess and advanced production methods that the Soviet Union could not match, and which eventually drove them to break their economy in the attempt to keep up. For me personally, it will always be associated with the three years my family lived in Virginia Beach, near NAS Oceana, in the early 1980s. I vividly remember all of the jets that used to fly over our house—Skyhawks, Intruders, Phantoms and especially Tomcats. With their twin tails and swing-wings they had to be the coolest things in the air, and in retrospect I believe they really were. --c5 This aircraft is dedicated to our departed friend and Chief of Production, Oli. Please see the included PDF for information on the cockpit, including some known issues that will be addressed in a future update. Model: Flying Toaster, BPAo Skins and Flight Model: column5 Cockpit: Chris Avionics: MoonJumper Pilots: Diego Extra Hangar and Loading Screens: USAFMTL Testing: The Mirage Factory Please contact one of the above people at CombatAce if you would like to use this mod in a freeware project.
