  1. Best driving song?

Detroit Rock City, by KISS Its also the official theme song for RAID 0 (think about it, it matches).
  2. Buy your own submarine?

The 80$ million link is interesting. Over 200 feets? Czech it out. Thanks!!
  3. Next is a Polar campaign. click here for map basis idea, scroll down ~> http://combatace.com/topic/51214-merry-christmas-from-north-pole/ Like I always do, I suggest late 1950s to early 1960s since that covers the niftiest of nifty airplanes on both sides of the sound barrier. Assume lots of air refueling in the background for NATO fighters. This may be possible to set up in DATA.ini with mission range and possibly defining campaign altitudes where the air refuel hack can work for AI flights. I don't know this would really work over the stock dynamic campaign generator. But it may be possible to get close enough. There is room enough over the Pole to borrow some of the long range strategic planesets. Even Canada has a role to play, right on the front line. Will need Aurora effects, but that requires some very long distance grafix definitions in Flightengine, and figuring out how to make it work with the stock campaign engine. I'm doing SAC vs PVO map, but I am willing to help out a Polar Bear Team or a Celebes Campaign Collective....or anyone who needs an undistorted extreme north or south lattitude map.
  4. ^^ What streak says. streak poasted that one of the recent Patches put back horizon distance accessibility. I have not got back into SF-2 since I slapped up a new box, but when I load out my SF2 again, and confirm this, I'll owe TK a big thanks. I simply cannot use the game without at least 200km horizon distance, minimum. I play my fantasy game at 50,000 feet -- average -- so this is a deal maker or breaker for me. Right now I'm doing 300km horizon distance in SF-1 2008, with... (0) 60fps in 3 mirror cockpits. (1) ATI 4850, stock clox -- stock Win7Pro ATI drivers on the Windows install disc. Believe it or not, every Catalyst install I tried slows the game down. Maybe I need just the drivers and dump the Cat, or stay with the disc drivers since ATI probably has long since stopped developing improvements to the 4000 series. (2) enbseries -- for SF-1 ONLY! (3) Mirrors ON (4) A minimum of ground objects and not very dense tga forests. (4+n) ...a number "n" of other tweaks in Flightengine and TerrainData. + (4+n+1) 5km terrain tiles, instead of stock-size 2km tiles, which means I draw 25/4 times fewer tiles -- much faster. This along with enbseries is the key. At 50,000 feet, 5km tiles show the same detail as stock 2km tiles seen from way down there at 20,000 feet which was a common altitude in the "real lifedeath" wars, where most normals play. I am not normal.
  5. Well you could fake some Yak-25s there, since its a fake war. Have them arrive with the Soviets. You need something with range here. Maybe Yak-28 fighters and bombers and -27 recon in the later campaign years. I've read the -28 was a fair match for Phantom in Teh Dogfight.
  6. Next is Celebes centered SW Pacific campaign -- late 1950s to early 1960s, with Soviets providing air and naval power, and China providing man power. Bascially, a re~try of Japan's run through the area in late 1941 - early 1942. SW Pacific has opportunity for USN and RN, as well as air forces, and Soviet VMF (bears and stuff) along with VVS. Would Yak-25 make a long range escort fighter? Other than that, the Soviets lack the equivalent of the Zero and its ocean dominating range. An early map I experimented with when I first got into THE SF. The area has lots of deep jungle, high mountains, active volcanoes (need effects) with not so much detail objects or big cities on the ground. I moved onto SAC vs PVO, but SW Pacific is an idea for ya'll more normal, less weird types.
  7. Wrench:: Air Defence Command, and US Army -- Nike ..? If anything we could re~create the USArmy+ADC vs SAC+RAF bomber practice runs. I got Al Price's US EW vol.2, and lots of B-47s were "destroyed" but they were the e-decoys. Lots got through. For myself:: , ADC/Nike vs Soviet DA is ... NO CONTEST. Sorry. The more matched contest is SAC vs PVO .... *but* the scenario has to be set up as war of attrition so its not the "one swift strike and be home by Christmas 1914" kind of thing.
  8. Quick question about tge KC-135

server:: Could be. I forgot how many gees hard drives can generally take. If the plane pulled over 1000g that could do it, ...*edit*-- > less if the drive was operating (heads not parked). How are you feeling post-flight?
  9. mmm....even if the mirror is not RAID, but some backup software, it may not be a backup. XAMPLE: I'm thinking, if its really mirrored, and you make a "mistake" and delete your F-106A.ini, then the mirror will also delete your backup F-106A.ini, and you will be downloading it again from The CombatAce. Also, a (real) backup is powered ON only when it is *briefly* plugged in to the computer for one of three reasons only -- (1) create or add to the backup, (2) to retrieve the backup, or (3) to occasionally check the integrity of the backup drive. Or something like that...I think.
  10. FLOGGER23:: RAID 1 IS NOT A BACKUP Click the link, and scroll down near the bottom... Scott Mueller::
  11. Amanda Knox..Victim?... Or Villian

Yep, that's insane. Cowardly prosecutor. Really, sad they let arguments like that in a court. Scary stuff. Okay, so basically what happened? That telegraf short is so poorly written: one reason I don't goto these media sites to learn anything.
  12. We mourn the loss of an old friend

About the woman and hot coffee. I thought the same way, but some poasters at Market Ticker forum brought some evidence that the coffee was far too hot, boiling hot I think. Basically, think safety first. Sometimes, simple accidents do happen. If it was your grandmom... However, the settlement did seem high, but then, it did bring attention to the issue of customers handling boiling hot water. What I really hate are the deep fat fryers. First, that deep fry food is bad for you, but we know all that and life goes on. Worse, you occasionally hear about some teenager in these deep fryer fast food places getting burned from accidental large spills and later dying from it. I submit that, a professional viewpoint toward safety and health requires the elimination of deep fat fryers from all restaurants. I love french fries but baked only. Anyways the best FAST foods are locally owned Polish / Italian / Etc... delis with no deep fat fryers, and I know a hella great tiny Taco trailer that uses fresh ingredients at a surf shop -- light "tropical" kinda style not heavy Mexican. You don't need fat fryers to make high quality fast food made with fresh ingredients. What you do need, absolutely require, is local ownership and up front self-motivation on the level of the individual soul to make top end product. ie...avoid the giant deep fat chains that dissolve teenagers in T > 212F oil. ---- That one. Yea one of my faves. But a debt based currency, that derives its value as bank credit given and debt owed, requires that traditional "common sense" be rejected by society. Common sense requires a common money, or common currency, free from artificial control by banker-corruptable politicos -- legal tender laws -- but that's another thread.
  13. Earth to satellite: When will you hit -- and where

Catchers mitt is always useful for these kinds of things. Not kidding either. When I was in 5 grade, Pelahatchie Missisippie (yes) I was shy, super quiet type, and we had this baseballgame@school (hardball) and I was in outfield, with mitt and all. Some enemy kidd popped a high long one, and I looked up, straight into the SF Sun (yes), I was blinded by glare, and I closed my eyes and held up my mitt open to the sky....and the ball fell into, and somehow stayed, in the mitt. I saved the game. Man, or Boy, was I popular for a few minutes heheee!! Pretty neat. You never know what may transpire.
  14. Terrible crash at Reno

Jed, I hear ya about crowded spaces, lots of injured in this one. I still think all the time about The Station fire; that insanely flammable nightclub. Its maybe a good thing it bothers me often, as it comes to mind when I'm near crowded enclosed areas. Jedi:: Altitude Saves. These planes fly mostly at cruise altitude. Jedi:: The snappy line condenses a well known fact in aviation, and aviation safety is the agenda here. I've seen so much clowning around with airplanes its sad. I agree these guys should be able to do what they enjoy, and others in society can also call them out. Yes FC, it is my call here. Aviation safety is not always a "popular" thing.
  15. Terrible crash at Reno

FC:: Yes my friend. High speed, low level, kills dead. mal, great poast, there's risk in everything but there is one difference -- risking the warbirds. At least that Button fella seemed to wake up. On the other hand, maybe a lot of these warbirds have been saved from scrap by these yahoos. If so...then they can fly them how they like. I'll submit to that but is that the case?
  16. Well Chuck Norris would have walked away from that, albeit heavily powdered, but that could be shaken off in one swift kick.
  17. Terrible crash at Reno

Not again. High speed, low level, kills dead. F-89s and MiG-9s (yea lookem up), and P-51s. This is the top reason I hate the concept of low level air racing. They do need to STOP this nonesense with these old warbirds. The solution to "warbird show" is to setup flights of P-51s with a B-17, takeoff, climb high, putt-putt around pulling contrails, and land. Nothing fancy. Seriously -- watching four real P-51s and a B-17 in the 1944 combat formation pulling contrails at 20,000 feet (need smoke generators for more southerly lattitudes where contrails form much higher), and a real or stand'in Bf - Fw interceptor and see how the P-51 contrails manuever to deal with the situation silently, high overhead, would be alot more exciting to me than these insane high speed low level death flights. Here, the 2nd last pic at the bottom, the sale sign says it all. At least one "button" on the shirt figured it out. ~> http://www.warbird.com/voodoo.html
  18. An image worth a thousand words

Thanks macs. I hate pics like this, but we need more published for souls to see. One sticks in my mind from years ago. Stalingrad film, taken by Soviets inside building over the shoulder of a rifleman tracking a German soldier running in the street. BAM the guy stumbles and goes down in the middle of the street. You've seen it. For guys who have never killed, like me, it was strange to see.
  19. Howdy guys havent been on in a while!

6 years, ugh its been long. No replacement is spot on. Friend has husband who is ex- Air Force flight surgeon, got out after about ~10 years. Regretted he didn't stay to retirement. Think about it, unless some specific opportunity awaits you now.
  20. Use Mouse

Wellcome!! Long ago, when I used keyboard for TheSims -- old Su-27 Flaker 1.0, then Forgotten Battles. After a year of FB, I got a simple cheap joystick (but very large and rock solid). Why can't you run a joystick? I was there -- I was "good" with a keyboard for some years, until I got my first joystick, and a new world!!!! Same with video card. I played FB with integrated Trident video on motherboard, I would be "okay" ... until I got my first real game card -- ATI 9200 ... and that was low end, but a new world above Trident. ....Trident made one of the fastest 2D cards though, which I needed most years ago, but games are 3D.
  21. Yep, reducing horizon distance manually helps fps. That happens automatically when you select lower settings. There are some tricks you can do manually in Flightengine that go outside the binned automatic settings. Do you use the HDR mod in SF1. It almost doubles frames for me. Its not needed in the SF2. The major trick I use, in any SF, is tile size. I run 5km tile sizes in my terrain, while stock is 2km. But, I make my own terrains with Terrain Editor. Double the tile size, and you can double the horizon distance in game. I can get away with large tiles because I am working on a fictional strategic campaign focusing on high altitude, 1950s style. When you fly 50,000 feet, the apparent tile size that you see (for my 5km tiles), and terrain detail, is the same size and detail as the stock 2km tiles give when you fly at 20,000 feet... 50,000ft x 2km / 5km = 20,000ft Most SF players don't get much above 20,000 feet, as the real tactical air wars were like that as well. My game will have air units spending most flying time above 40,000 feet, so my large tiles look like smaller tiles from down low. I run 300km horizon distance in SF-1 -- HD 4850 video / mirrors on / HDR / 60fps -- as I have a few other small tricks as well, but the big secret is large tile size. Its all about trade offs.
  22. pete, SF2 is great, although SF1 will also benefit from a major upgrade. I have both now, and SF1 is much better. Go Sandy Bridge. I just did (i5-2500k). -- MiG:: As for multi~core, actually, we have never confirmed this. We have yet to test the multi~core in various game conditions. I'd love it if TK programmed the game so additional AI units, air and surface, will be dispersed to more and more cores, without limit, as we add more AI to our missions. When I get time to get back into SF I hope to run tests on AI unit quantities and see what happens with the cores in Win~7 task manager. I have seen that SF-1 uses only 1 core. Dave:: lol one of the reasons I went Sandy Bridge is for single core performance, in SF1 but also in other old software I run. Mind you, this is before streakeagle poasted that TK's recent update opened up horizon distance again for us, which is important for me. I have not had time to get back into SF 1 or 2 to confirm streak's poast, and then I need to thank TK....BIG TIME.
  23. Internet Troll given prison sentence

A problem arises because the criminal with sufficient power always accuses the victim, or those alerting others to the criminal, of making "baseless falsehoods." This ground level rule goes for exposing crimes involving individual souls all the way to high crimes and exposing corruption in government, corporations, unions, churches, or *any* organization of men. There is a lot of false accusations, and innocently wrong false eyewitness -- its a surprisingly subtle thing -- so on all sides, we must be careful, as Ben Kenobi would say, and go beyond our emotions and our wishes of who "should" be guilty or innocent depending on if we like them. That's another endlessly interesting topic.
  24. Internet Troll given prison sentence

-- I'm saddened that our brothers across the pond aren't allowed free speech. This was not free speech. Apply street sense. Would this guy have walked up to a group of guys on the street, and do the same kind of thing? Probably not because Darwin would taken care of that right there on the sidewalk, unless something short circuits the street learning process in some. I've read of rare cases of comulsive swearing, including a lawyer who fought that problem obviously since he/she had to spend time in courts lol. Now corporations and bank.gov silencing whistleblowers is another story, but that's not the case here.
  25. KMD comes with a tutorial, but even so, you'll need lots of time spent learning how things work, and little quirks that you notice. I am the Master of KMD, and I love it since I know internally all the little tricks. By internal, I mean I have learned behaviors that I can't readily vocalize (or poasterize on teh internets) ... kinda like riding a bike. How do you ride a bike? I dunno, and I've pedaled bicycles for like 3 decades. Shucks my dad took me to the top of a hill, and he pushed me down, and I kept falling off, until one time, I kept going, riding to friends house where we all went biking together. Pops never told me how to ride a bike, cos he didn't know either. Its just something you do, is all. Same thing with landing in strong crosswind. You can't do it -- at all -- but you keep trying and messing it up, hardly improving, and then it all happens, and your hands and feet take over from your mind, and it happens out of the blue. Start simple, air start only, a few waypoints, later you can play with land basing and later, ship basing perhaps.
