Yea, 2001 was the last of the Silent Movies. Yea. Its not so essential in a combat flight TheSim. I already have a good stereo with far better sound. I like to play music really loud. When I get into a dogfight, it kinda calms me down. --- I also mod thrust reversers into all my SAC bombers. I think its important to get out of trouble faster than I got into it. I use my Aurora Borealis effect for warhead detonations. When I launch, they make a beautiful picture. And I carry non-functional Nike Hercules LODs on my fighters' pylons. It scares the hell out of the AI.

Fubar's Flare and Chaff Realism Edits
Lexx_Luthor replied to FrankD's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
Its pure grafix; draw distance in meters from effect source. Especially for flares, try ramping it up over 3km, for longer viewing range at night. -
NK now that is interesting, although that's on the border with China where there may be a reasonably healthy black market. Another one a few days ago... Arrests in Zimbabwe for watching BBC + Aljazeera

Merry Christmas from North Pole
Lexx_Luthor replied to Lexx_Luthor's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
I've learned more about TE and 3dem since then, so its not so bad starting over. And Gimp (thanks Wrench and others for turning me onto that) has a feature that will make cutting terrain maps much easier than last time, and a warping feature that *might* make filling in between the pie slices a whole world easier. We shall see. I'm going for a max altitude in the 3dem colour mapping of 7800m which in game (after TE) seems to give max peaks around 8100m or so. Only the Himalayas have this kind of heights and nowhere else on this map -- List of highest mountains. The issue with allowing higher peaks in TE is that it reduces elevation detail (or, increases the difference in altitude levels). So a good compromise may be to cut the few highest peaks. However, in my 3dem colour file, there is a small reserve of colours from 249 to 255 left over that can manually be painted on the bitmap and in game give heights up to 8500m (for the 255 level). This is close enough for the highest peaks, provided I can locate them. Using 3dem at 7800m I can use a TE HeightScale=32.5 to get the 455m height for Lake Baikal which is my basic measuring rule. However, 33.33334 gives a nice easy to see range of heights in both TE and in game of... 0 33 66 100 133 166 200 : : 4400 4433 4466 4500 4533 4566 4600 : : etc... Although Baikal then comes out to be 466m elevation. That's close enough. -
Shrike:: Just the opposite. The "stability" we have sought is dictators keeping their nations' souls crushed under a boot, with the resulting poverty and local warfare causing civilian deaths. We have a history of forcibly taking out democratically elected governments, and installing puppet dictators to do just that -- ensure "stability." The Shah of Iran was a fine one. In the short term, this may seem to benefit us, but in the long term it will hurt: Iran turn radical for example. Here at home, the collapse of the system's debt is now visibly destroying American men and women. Granted its nothing new. The empires of the British, French, Spanish, Japanese, Dutch, German, Russian, Soviet, etc...endless list...have all destroyed wealth in order to confiscate a small portion of it. I like the take of Nightwatch, 9 Jan, on the early Algerian protests:: I will add, however, that this also impoverishes local business and wealth creation. Its not just evil, but biblically evil. This stuff goes back a very, very long time. To paraquote the Bible: There's nothing new under the SF sun.

Merry Christmas from North Pole

ack@#$&* I'm starting this thing over. Somehow the first time I lost mountain detail in the Himalayas. I want it back. -
Silverbolt, that makes more sense now. Both rulers had become an instrument of western desired "stability" in the region. The Nightwatch fella seems to indicate that Mubarak as a figurehead can leave but the same Egyptian military regime remains either in power or to guide things peacefully to an "acceptable" civilian rule. I'm guessing that with the greater violence, Daffy's situation may be different, so maybe we don't know what to do. I'm guessing Daffy can't just step down now and live to tell about it.

Wow, 4km deep, that's just like right under your feets.

A Bit Of A Problem
Lexx_Luthor replied to Lt. James Cater's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
lod in catfile, so that's not it. MiG-17F.ini:: Make sure you have the ".lod" on the end, and correct [lod00N] numbers, and ordered distances. twisty~pit => cockpit.ini ViewAngle maybe. Try 0,0,0 if not already. If I recall, 08 make view go BOOM BOOM Beyond that, describe the situation carab you are having in like max detail. -

Man that's weird. According to that telegraph, the mercs are (my interpretation) basically doing a Chekist~esque terror by massacre campaign. I do like the tele's take on this... A British-based Libyan, Ahmed,...::

Another question...
Lexx_Luthor replied to amariani's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Higher, like Wrench's 0.55. I always used 0.75 as a nice number. ---- Also -- I think, kinda -- sun light level in Enviro effects this. Also effects how fast moon and stars come out. Or one of those variables. I haven't played with this in a while. Maybe the game sees it as... cockpit light value < sun light level ... if TRUE then lights turn on. Or something like that. This is sad. I used to know all this stuff. -
Go Rambler. streak, why don't you get pilot lic now, or in future?

MF F-14 cockpit...
Lexx_Luthor replied to SidDogg's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
Sid, are you using mirrors? What are you using for computer and video card? I doubt the tint is causing this. -- F-14A MF -- this is an old download, is there a newer SF2 F-14MF? For this model I have downloaded some time ago, the main canopy "glass" is tinted with the two tga files in the Cockpit folder... reflection reflection_front Just rename the files. Don't delete them, you might want them back. Consider renaming these files as the game's on/off option for canopy "glass" or "reflection" which sadly has never worked for 3rd party mods (or even some Thudwire aircraft like A-6). The front armoured glass, tinted blue, is so nicely done, I'd keep it. They did a great job on this one. The "glass" is minimal tint except for the armoured glass, which is as it should be. Very thick stuff. To delete the armoured glass, I bet its inside the cockpit 3D model and some part must be found to move it. That can probably be done, bu I suggest keeping it, as it looks fantastic. And like I said, I doubt its the tint or its mesh causing performance problems. -
MF F-14 cockpit...
Lexx_Luthor replied to SidDogg's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
Most likely its a mesh that can be moved out of the way. I'll take a look. :good: Butt, it probably won't help framerate. I bet what you saw was turning off cockpit made the tint go away and you get faster frames. That framerate hit is coming from the whole cockpit, not the "glass." -
Great idea Balt. I always thought the mountainous terrain of Kamchatka would make a nice background for a north-south air campaign. Kinda like Korea, but shifted over to Kam, maybe a few years later for shiny silver F-100s and MiG-19s, and high altitude Sidewinders. Lets just say, I love the Kamchatka height field.

Sunset Over Linate -- A Gulfstream Jetprop taxiing under the setting sun -- really stands out. I love shots like this. I really should get a good camera. I'm fantastic with setting up shots, with other souls' cameras, but I have nothing more than a really low quality basic cell phone that happens to take pics, but oh man the shots I get are great. S, see if you can setup some sunset shots and wait for when airplanes reflect sunlight, either flying or sitting. That's my fave effect. Don't forget sunrise too!!!
