POTEZ 633 B2 GREC
Lexx_Luthor replied to Veltro2k's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - File Announcements
Wow. Veltro your models have the nicest 3D canopy structure. All your work is great when flying with open cockpit method. -
Kesselbrut's dedicated cockpit for A-5 by Julhelm is deeply interesting, but I don't see it talked about much. I was looking around for the most "lookalike" cockpit for TSR.2 by Bongodriver-TSR.2 Team, and I think this is it (for me). I did a little blue~esque grey painting on the A-5 panels -- and inside TSR.2 canopy -- and some strange combinations of Moves for the moving map. I use the A-5's cockpit panels "open cockpit" inside the TSR.2 3D model. I am thinking the TSR.2 had or was to have a moving map display, and Kesselbrut provided one -- sorta -- in the A-5 cockpit. That moving map sits on a clipboard that sits on the pilot's leg. Thankfully, Kess made these distinct meshes. I positioned them, and rotated two, to get the moving map nearly flat against the instrument panel. I think, for cockpit.ini editing, rotating parent and child meshes can open different possibilities of positioning meshes. Without rotating both the Clipboard along with the Map, I could not do this. Method below. The moving map is on the lower left, although that is on the opposite side to what I think was planned for TSR.2. Dunno. First I Drop the entire cockpit (mesh is Hull) 99 meters down out of view, and then raise back, 99 meters up, piece by piece, what is needed for use inside TSR.2 canopy. First the mesh Legs is raised by 98 meters only, then rotated (this exhausts all possible Moves for this mesh or any mesh). Then the Clipboard is pushed forward 0.28 meters, and then rotated. That push however is defined by "Z" direction but philosophically its the "Y" direction. For some reason, multiple child mesh moves mix up coordinates somehow. Anyways it seems to work. Next the Map is raised another 0.98 meters and rotate that. In the end, the Map is seen flat against the panel, isolated from Clipboard and Legs, which are not visible. : : : : [Move1] Type=AIRSPEED_INDICATOR NodeName=Hull MovementType=POSITION_Z Set[01].Position=-99 Set[01].Value=0.0 Set[02].Position=-99 Set[02].Value=1.0 [Move2] Type=AIRSPEED_INDICATOR NodeName=CenterPanel MovementType=POSITION_Z Set[01].Position=99 Set[01].Value=0.0 Set[02].Position=99 Set[02].Value=1.0 [Move3] Type=AIRSPEED_INDICATOR NodeName=SidePanels MovementType=POSITION_Z Set[01].Position=99 Set[01].Value=0.0 Set[02].Position=99 Set[02].Value=1.0 [Move4] Type=AIRSPEED_INDICATOR NodeName=Legs MovementType=POSITION_Z Set[01].Position=98 Set[01].Value=0.0 Set[02].Position=98 Set[02].Value=1.0 [Move5] Type=AIRSPEED_INDICATOR NodeName=Legs MovementType=ROTATION_Y Set[01].Position=-30 Set[01].Value=0.0 Set[02].Position=-30 Set[02].Value=1.0 [Move6] Type=AIRSPEED_INDICATOR NodeName=Clipboard MovementType=POSITION_Z Set[01].Position=0.28 Set[01].Value=0.0 Set[02].Position=0.28 Set[02].Value=1.0 [Move7] Type=AIRSPEED_INDICATOR NodeName=Clipboard MovementType=ROTATION_Z Set[01].Position=-20 Set[01].Value=0.0 Set[02].Position=-20 Set[02].Value=1.0 [Move8] Type=AIRSPEED_INDICATOR NodeName=Map MovementType=POSITION_Z Set[01].Position=0.94 Set[01].Value=0.0 Set[02].Position=0.94 Set[02].Value=1.0 [Move9] Type=AIRSPEED_INDICATOR NodeName=Map MovementType=ROTATION_X Set[01].Position=80 Set[01].Value=0.0 Set[02].Position=80 Set[02].Value=1.0 : : : [Move10+ ... TSR.2
Lexx_Luthor replied to Lexx_Luthor's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Yea its a tossup there. Since the game models engine management so thinly if at all, I'll vote for Tapes. On rare occasions one may lose an engine in the game, but you always see the panel style in front of you. Is it possible to "borrow" a not game-critical guage for another engine? -

Lexx_Luthor replied to Lexx_Luthor's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I dunno FC. You need the tape guages in the J-75 birds, and unlike TK's pit, Pasko's has moving map, although that would be in the 108 back seat, if that was to have one. Since we don't do back seats in the game nor a popup game screen map, use it up front. I think F-106 is the way to go. -

It could use some positioning but it works. For multi seat bombers and stuff, I use the game radar box, so I don't need a dedicated scope in the cockpit. Doing this widens the range of cockpits available for many aircraft. -
Buccaneer
Lexx_Luthor replied to the test pilot's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
On the other hand, since OP spelled Bucc... correctly, that shoots my theory down. Oh well. I'm having an Owellian moment (oh well moment) -

Lexx_Luthor replied to the test pilot's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Bucc...etc... is one of those words that, at least for me, one must stop and do mental buffering to remember who to how to spell it, or (ugh) look it up first; haha "search" for correct spelling. Kinda like Know...etc...Base... I can't spell it unless I STOP and BUFFER about the K-word. If they (powers that be) called it Brain Base, maybe that would attract attention. No, that's impossible. But at least everybody could spell it. -
Erasing antennas?
Lexx_Luthor replied to Stratos's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
bpao is terrific. btw...notice the mesh of concern is named "Objet" and not (presumably) "Object" so beware that even among the hardcore 3D modding set, misspellings are made, from time to time. Oddities like that you always keep in mind when examining the OUT or LOD files. -- Wrench_ok Yea that _ok thing is an odd one. But it seems to *always* make things work. -
The Case of the Contraband Corned Beef Sandwich
Lexx_Luthor replied to Dave's topic in Military and General Aviation
Oh I don't know. Young went on walkabout, so apparently it wasn't that bad a career move. The discussion is funny though, and it seems, indicates that the NASA rules for that time were there for a good reason. I'd guess though that NASA coulda shoulda relaxed the rules and worked with their crews to experiment with real foods. NASA should have known something like this would happen. Thanks for this Dave. -

Soul:: Ouch, your shiny silver 104 is turning FLAT BLACK under daytime sun at high altitude. Soot from the rocket exhaust? Soul, poast your HighAlt enviro block here, and we'll fix that or you should be able to fix it (I only have SF1). (or just set the HighAlt block lighting modifier variables to = 1 ) -

Lexx_Luthor replied to Lt. James Cater's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
This is SF-1 forum. As for bomber/strike AI flying straight all the time when under attack, that was early SF1, right? I know in SF1 2008, aircraft started to turn to avoid AAMs (but not gun attacks). I thought this was an interesting improvement to the game but went back to 2006 before I explored it further. Has the AI improved in this respect further in SF2? -

Lexx_Luthor replied to Spillone104's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Interesting. I recall wondering if spelling out "Effect" was needed, but apparently it was not required when I did this years ago, but seemed more of a modding convention -- way of doing things. Have you edited all possible combinations of using or not spelling out "Effect" ? Did all this stuff work before EXP2? -

No. Underside view. The Nozzle--Brake panels are like the other rectangular panels I had you add, and are *just* beneath the stab trailing edges, horizontal orientation, on both Left and Right of fuselage. None of your screens so far show this area clearly. None of them. You had done those L&R panels already from other sources. The ones I pointed out all happen to be Left only (or they are fuselage BOTTOM...ahh...decal placement language ). Panels look done unless you want to add those nozzle/brake panels under the L&R stabs, or make your own small panels on the lower mid-fuselage according to that sketch note just to fill out the skin undersides. -

You can let go now....almost I didn't "see this" earlier but the diagram has "(L&R)" on some panel labels meaning both Left and Right. Nothing I added to your screen shots have L&R, so they are all Left only. You are good to go. We got everything, except, possibly: I don't think I have a screen shot where you show under the extreme tail end. The diagram shows one small horizontally elongated panel just beneath the stabilizer trailing edge, along the fuselage side. It is... Nozzle actuator & speed brake cylinder access (L&R) ...it has (L&R) so its Left and Right so if you don't have that already use it as it can help fill both sides. -

AWSIM..!! About the diagam. Its from Republic Aviation and comes with small inset sketches of mechs working on the plane, missiles, radar dish, engine removed, etc.... It looks like a sell piece made to USAF, advertising ease of maintencence. The engine door note I quoted is part of the advertisement, indicating what's not pictured, and is one of several isolated notes on the diagram that relate to the little mech activity sketchs. I don't know if any of this even made it to the mockup. -

Yes, squiggly lines are more than enough especially at these speeds. I figured you wanted to know each panel's purpose, just for knowing's sake on your art. -

Fixed the pic with the fuel filler ~> http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d178/Lexx_Luthor/Stuff/ze5--2.jpg You could make your own panels on the large engine doors, help fill out the other side maybe. You are the operational F-103 designer now. -

Ya its a port side diagram. The plane at this level was just a paper plane, so maybe additional panels for other things on the other side. This may be of interest...the diagram shows no panels on the big engine compartment door...however... These smaller doors are not shown. -

Lexx_Luthor replied to EricJ's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
Oh, about that. I dunno if the side panels are all on one side only, or some may have duplicates on the other side. ACK, dumb dumb !!! I mixed up two diagram lines: the panel you already did on first pic above is not "Aft landing gear doors" Its a door for..... "Filler -- pressure fueling system" Told ya I'd confuse. I come through every time! -

Eric that's superb. The circular ARA-25 panel, is of larger diameter than the width of the rectangular APN-71 panel (in English, the circular panel can be a bit larger) More stuff ~> http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d178/Lexx_Luthor/Stuff/ze5.jpg and ~> http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d178/Lexx_Luthor/Stuff/ze3.jpg I'll look for more, or fix up any confusion I make. -

Okay, first try at this. Panels will be red. Geometry reference lines will be blue. I can't draw. That's AN/APN-71 antenna access panel. All antenna or electronic access panels except the AS/ARA-25 are AN/... click ~> http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d178/Lexx_Luthor/Stuff/ze8.jpg Obviously, these are rough sizes and locations. Size and Place to Taste relative to your current skin lines. If you would like labels for the panels you already got nailed riveted down, I can add them.
