F-91B-C WingtipVortexEmitter Problem
Lexx_Luthor replied to christian59's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Hey that is interesting. I can't get it working here either under [LeftOuterWing]. Try this workabout. I moved the non-working code below to under [LeftWing] and it works now. HasVortexEmitter=TRUE VortexEmitterName=WingtipVortexEmitter VortexPosition=-4.84,-1.65,-0.34 VortexG=2.5 -

I don't know. I never got the SF2, but I hear things are done alot different now. I'm staying with SF1, in fact old SF 2006. -
how to avoid that kind of clipping
Lexx_Luthor replied to Murphy'S's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Okay. Another option is painting the tree tga's a bit different colour so they more match the forest terrain tile color when seen from medium altitudes. That's what I did. Fubs right on DetailMeshSize, but be careful ramping that. It locked up on me at 20 on my old computer. DMS involves the terrain height detail -- what hill obscures a distant cloud or something. DMS takes astronomically increasing computer power as the distance ramps. Arrow:: Oh boy. I could write a book on this. One liner:: Look for some "glass" tga files. Many cockpits use the stock canopy "glass" file. You replace that with a clear tga in Cockpit folder. Cellinsky sky mod has clear horizon cloud replacement tga's that are clear. Another method is Moving the cockpit glass out of view using cockpit.ini and either OUT file or hex editor. You can search this twenty thousand page Thudwire saga thread for the word GLASS it has some tips to get started. ~> http://bbs.thirdwire.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=4410 -
how to avoid that kind of clipping
Lexx_Luthor replied to Murphy'S's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
First: are you using any of my weirdo mods that require radical FlightEngine clip distance ramping? I've seen something like that. It looks like the fog canopy "glass" is not fogging out the terrain trees, or making the trees glisten deeply green. In gameplay, do you see the trees twinkling rapidly? Does it happen in external view? If you only see it from cockpit, its the canopy "glass." If you can't fix it otherwise, you can take out the "glass" effect. You have to do it manually manually for non-Thudwire aircraft, unless SF2 is different from SF1. There are several methods from simple to deep end. -
Woa that is big. What caused it they know yet? I have a bucket of bee wax candles so I don't have to choke on the oil wax when we lose power.

Longer Range Aircraft Visibility ?
Lexx_Luthor posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Possible little useful tip...maybe for those experiencing problems in this area. I recently found a good use for the MinPixelSize variable in FlightEngine.ini, started a thread over at Thudwire about it here... ~> http://bbs.thirdwire.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=7030 After getting up SF1 with Win7RC and new ATI, I noticed the aircraft LODs vanished at rather short distances. Setting MinPixelSize=0 allowed me to increase the range to where the aircraft LODs vanish -- 9km for a large jet LOD at my res 1280x1024. Czech the Thud forum thread for details. I hope to eventually move to a larger/better monitor to further increase this. -
Longer Range Aircraft Visibility ?

If you have a game in the earlier SF1 series, use the CAT extractor. See the CombatAce Brain Base if you don't know. The CAT file containing the ini file is in Flight folder. I have no idea what SF2 even is, so... -
Wow that is nice they could do that. What was wrong with the building they had to destroy it? Next time use RAF hehe!!! Czech it out: Smooth RE crash....condo tower lays down flat. ~~> http://globaleconomicanalysis.blogspot.com/2009/11/different-kind-of-real-estate-crash.html

Gepard:: Very interesting. I've read of peaceful resistance movements spanning Poland/E.Germany/etc... in the 1950s but we in the western "democracies" remained silent as they were beaten down. Is this Correct Thinking? Thanks for sharing!!!

inacceptable size
Lexx_Luthor replied to 76.IAP-Blackbird's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Donne! .... at least for SF1. For loading screens, I put all the bmp's in another non-game folder I call AA.... LoadingScreen=D:\AA\F-106A.bmp Shared cockpits I put into a folder called A... Directory=D:\A\F-106A\Cockpit On very rare occasions, the radar does not work so I work around that by putting only the radar.bmp in an otherwise empty Cockpit folder, and accessing that radar.bmp with the Avionics file. Other than those few exceptions, none of my Aircraft folders have Cockpit folders. I don't use any hanger screens, just a blank bmp. No bmp files at all in my aircraft files as I know the loadout locations. I reduce all skins because I see the game as mostly what you see from the cockpit during gameplay and with alot of these old jets you see NOTHING of your own airplane at all, and other planes are at high relative speeds at far beyond Screenshot Range. I was working on doing decals the same way before my Windows crash this summer gave me a reason to joyfully forget SF for a while. Accessing decals from a non-game folder does work though. I have over 100 SAC, NAVY, RAF, IAPVO, and Flygvapnet planes installed at not too much over 1GB SF total. Very snappy. I admit I went overboard with skin reduction BUT it matches the best detail you would see of other aircraft when looking from your player cockpit. -
Aussum Dave, and avoiding the deadbeat credit card companies. Easiest Christmas shopping decision I ever made was for a friend. I asked her if she liked Star Trek. She said she HATED it and I instantly knew to get her some LEXX DVDs. The hardest Christmas shopping I ever had was finding her the Canadian made LEXX. She liked it. She had to hehe.

First thing come to mind was Tigers In The Mud written by a German tank guy. Near the war's end he had troubles motivating his troops but managed an ambush. He had a couple SP of some kind forgot what and took out a column of Shermans I believe. No infantry and no Air Force involved in that one. Gave that book away so don't recall the details.

Woa Your story reminds me of what happens in aviation engineering world. Bad fluff ups get done in the rush.

That Orlando thing was weird too, and unemployment is still skyrocketing. Thanks Mannie. My sloppy mistake. The Palestinians are Israeli citizens. I lost my first read of it, but found another, apparently from Dubai. Palestinians join Israeli army for better life ~ http://www.thenational.ae/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20090926/FOREIGN/709259780

I've read Israel uses Palestinian volunteers in their ground forces, but don't know much beyond that. EricJ, thanks for your poast (and your -128 just downloaded it last night). Could this guy have just been so opposed to himself deploying that he basically went over to the "other side" as his way of dealing with it? The way I see it, he KNEW he wouldn't survive this thing, or not escape capture. My current "feeling," which is worthless and can, and usually does, change on a dime, is that he used his deployment as opportunity to do his act where it would hurt the most in the confined spaces on base, but that might more imply a Sleeper combatant, or not. I dunno. EricJ:: Thanks for poasting this! I've been reading some on the officer fraggings in Vietnam. But I take it the guys involved were short timers wanting to go home to live a normal life and perceived the war as pointless, and didn't want to be sacrificed to advance some officer's Army career, or so far I gather the thinking behind it all.

Model -- about 60 nearby stars to maybe 40 light years distance. Many moons back, I started with foam board from which I hung little bright painted blocks of wood of different sizes and colours with black thread. Sun centered. Length of thread calculated from astronomical star data. Size and paint representing absolute magnitude and spectral colour. Took a week to do. Finished and hung from ceiling for first test. Turned off lights at night and used flashlight. Perfect 3D effect, looking from different directions. Bottom of foam board painted flat black and so minimally visible. Black thread totally invisible. Near perfect. Went to take it down and dropped it. Threads hopelessly tangled up. Tossed it and later did maybe 8000 stars using FORTRAN on computer.

mig 25 shooty missile things help
Lexx_Luthor replied to HotNess's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
hehe old thread. Jamming does not work in my game, because it causes warhead detonation at I guess the point of tracking failure. SAMs explode just off the launcher, and if they have nuc warheads, they wipe out the SAM site (all swell, but...). If your game needs nuc warheads, jamming can't be used. Imagine shooting GAR-11 at target say Tu-95 employing jamming, and the nuc warhead blows under your missile bay (great job on that F-102 bay btw). Really neither does the self-destruct timer which also causes warhead detonation. I had thought up some partial workarounds for nuc missiles but never tested them until my SF-Free vacation. -

Wow, never seen that feature before. Ask on their forums? They seem to be pretty helpful. Do you know which file is getting the hits? Maybe try taking out that one file (for a day or two if its possible to replace it later), or is it a file you need to stay there? Just tried that stats feature it but doesn't seem to stop loading. mmm -
