Your Nemesis...
Lexx_Luthor replied to Lt. James Cater's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I've read MiG-19 was prematurely rejected by the Sovs in favour of the "flashy" MiG-21. But the Chinese stuck with developing it over time. The major thing that cutting edge aircraft need is time. In a "vietnam" style combat enviro, a decade after -19 first flew, I'd prefer the -19 over -17 and -21, at least that's what I'm thinking right now anyways. -
Nuclear Fusion vs Nuclear Fission

University courses are generally Politically Correct, with some remnant PC leaking through to Phys and Teh Maths. Nucs are the ultimate or end limit of XtreeM non-PC. -

PAPPY NO!!!! Man/Manette pappy why didn't you back up? I know we are no longer a nation of savers, but still. I love the work you did. AwSim! -
Wow. Hope she sees this thread. Had no idea something like this went down. Funny I met a girl recently and I real quick I blurted out ( ) she has to be a European biker chick. Turned out half right. She used to ride bike years back until a car accident, but she's not Euro. Well quarter right there. She loved it.

MiG-17? Very interesting streak. Yea the typos kill that interview. So Ham Drill was a typo for Have Drill? And I see Have Drill is mentioned as well. DOh I was surprised at Waltman's poor opinion of the MiG armament. MiG-17 instead of -19 would shed light on that. Also just noticed this... One afterburner....check. So I can't use this again for MiG-19 threads. Dam it. Thanks alot pal!!! -
Yep. You go with either Jesus or the occult stuff. Be careful out there fellas/fellattes. UFO's ...? Maybe maybe not. I've always been a sky watcher since I was a little squish. I always pay attention to the sky. I did see a few strange things.... (1) I was out variable star observing and noticed a roughly 4th magnitude flashing "star" in southern Pisces. It quickly flashed visible about once a minute. Otherwise it was invisible. I saw it again in almost the same location (a few degrees off) exactly one year plus one day later. I eventually talked to the author of a book about anti-satellite weapons, and he told me it was a chemical powered visual test/tracking device on a geosynchronous satellite. That made sense as southern Pisces is right at the equator. (2) I saw the most weird thing: I was out variable star observing (again) and a roughly 3rd magnitude tiny "star" was crossing the sky (~0.5 degree/sec) and had a near 1 degree long misty or nebulous tail hanging down from it -- almost like an expanding exhaust. The tail curved backwards -- think of dragging a towel along the ground...it drops straight down from your hand but curves backwards along the ground. I went to weather service and they showed me the wind charts. No wind matched direction and apparent angular speed at any altitude, so it wasn't floating in the wind. I never figured this one out but eventually read an article on satellites/boosters that were used in ion tests. The description matched. Come to think, the apparent angular speed of the star/tail across the sky matched that of a low orbiting satellite. On the other hand, alot of pilots and radar people talked about UFOs and they are worth listening to. I hear the .gov made severe penalties if they -- military pilots and civvie airline pilots I hear -- talked to the press about their sightings. I dunno but if so then yes something is going on. Also, UFOs are a big subject over in Russia and their Cold War air defense.

A good topic. Some of you fellas/fellattes may wish to read this. ANG F-86 pilot flies tests against USMC pilot in MiG-19. As always, only the best are allowed to fly MiGs. WE INTERVIEW LES WALTMAN ~> http://sabre-pilots.org/classics/v23les.htm If ThunderFlap is making you sad and depress, try some F-100 data ini work to mythically extend RF-100A to tactical or "thirdwire" use. Before U-2, a few RF-100A flew strategic afterburning recon over USSR. 4 tanks. North American RF-100A Slick Chick ~> http://www.spyflight.co.uk/f100.htm -

hehe...spot the changes below...word placement is everything. -------- I'm hitting on a really young female who is a major predator... -------- That has to be SiG worthy. hehe Server!!!11! Article:: Good. About time too. Homes should price out at 2x to 3x annual pay, but the central bank engineered a housing bubble and now doing everything to prop it up even if it kills its own "dollar."

I wish I lived near airbase. Put me right to sleep. I'm one of those that fall asleep with cozy thunder and ripping rain on the roof. Some of you may know what I'm talking about here. The most surreal sound ever man-made is a jetliner flying high above at maybe 30k+ feet. Its rather quiet being so high up -- you don't see flying chickens in the barnyard -- but its so DEEP. I love how the atmosphere between you and the high jet makes the sound slowly warble. If I were a game dev, that would be the Siberian Sky Soundtrack.

* bump * hehe missed this. The artillery piece in the low SF sun looks very interesting. Use that for Weapon Editor. How bout an R-4 missile....only US Cadillacs had bigger fins at the time...well about a decade earlier actually. Ah, when cars and missiles that had *real* fins. -

Wow Wrench, I just now czeched out the CA Skyraiders for the first time in this sim --- SUPER Sweet. The initial download has a cockpit that was never finished? Its very nice so far. 76, Joe B. has good intro Skyraider stuff here ~> http://home.att.net/~jbaugher/uscombataircraft.html specifically, under US Attack Aircraft ///// US Navy/US Marine Corp Attack Aircraft (1934-present)..etc.. -
AIR DEFENSE SYSTEMS CONTROLED BY HUMAN
Lexx_Luthor replied to Pap's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Yep, hand made missions it would seem, as the sim is closed locked tighter than a drum for dynamic campaign engine modding. All that is lacking is a map-wide combat results text file. Thus Lowengrin never could make a dynamic campaign for us, but his campaign engine saved FB/PF for many offline players for the simple reason FB/PF has that "eventlog" text file. For my Siberian Sky campaign, I do intend to program an independent dynamic mission generator but input for the data will have to come from estimating unit losses or their effects with external camera after all combat ends. As far as I know, its the only way. -
Marut canopy issues
Lexx_Luthor replied to Atreides's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Some are stuck with ye olde PATCH 2006 which has no OpenCockpit. If you are stuck back in 2006 and are hardcore weird enough to try stargetic pits sometimes, but not always, you can change the clip variable before you fly. Another variable that needs consideration is LookAroundHeight found in AircraftObject file. This seems to be the pilot eye swivel arm length, and in some tight 3d models, has to be made smaller -- or your vision pops through the canopy hehe. Making it larger allows nice views of wings and intakes and droptanks and stuff outside the crew compartment, but some models the crew compartment is small and this variable needs be made smaller (say 0.02 or something). -

Just a guess but it may be possible to somewhat elevate the nose using engine thrust, or backing off thrust after powering up. -
SAAB J32B ......"B" for BETA!
Lexx_Luthor posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - File Announcements
File Name: SAAB J32B ......"B" for BETA! File Submitter: Lexx_Luthor File Submitted: 23 Apr 2009 File Updated: 27 Apr 2009 File Category: Saab Aircraft J32B Lansen interceptor BETA, based on A32A model by Timmy. For classic olde style StrikeFighters Series 1. Good A32/J32 resources here... Canit, deep stuff on all SAABs ~> http://www.canit.se/%7Egriffon/aviation/ Vectorsite SAABs ~> http://www.vectorsite.net/avsaab.html -------- A32A 3D model by Timmy. Skins by Timmy. Cammo 2048 and smaller cammo 512 version included. Metal silver at 512 only. Uses Thirdwire F-4B cockpit for now. I (Lexx) don't have time to research the attack version (A32A) loadouts, so this is somewhat simpler interceptor (J32B) beta for us to start with. OUT file included. If time permits, Timmy may work on dedicated J32B 3D model with slight differences. Timmy says: Model and Template are available for those wanting to work with them. 4 30mm Aden 4 Rb24 Swedish Sidewinders Basic setup for 12 Swedish 18cm-m49 air-ground rockets but this is just an example use of Timmy's great pylons. Timmy made this as A32 so we have 12 pylons here if they are used (invisible if not). Conformal nonjettisonable belly tank. Swedish rockets 18cm-m49 *and* 15cm-m51 are in Olde SF Weapon Pac, along with Rb24. Thanks to who made those. DECALS:: I placed the basic national insignia decals over Timmy's painted skin insignias. You choose which method to use. I still don't know how SF uses unit numbers, since my personal campaign can't use the Thirdwire dynamic campaign generator and I'll eventually need to program my own. So, no decal numbers nor units for now. Beta flight model is derived from Hunter/F-86D and basically tweaked to J32B. Climbs too fast, a bit too high Mach -- 0.96 vs 0.91 level Hi. Decreasing lift/drag might help this. Beta avionics is F-4E but basic radar performance (not display) tweaked towards J32B levels. Shortest selectable track range is 1km to allow good radar gunnery approach. Everybody is encouraged to work the flight model and avionics I ran out of time for. Air-air rocket pods don't work in the sim for AI planes, and the fix Wrench and I worked on does not fire too well under AI control. So no interceptor rocket pods here for now. Maybe we can eventually figure something out, as I'd like to have air-air rckt pods for this and PVO interceptors like MiG-15 and things like that. I am staying with Olde SF and not upgrading yet -- if ever -- so the FM/Avionics are rough but workable and it will be some time before I get round to deeply learning FM and AVIONICS design for the practical goal of building and comparison testing all files for all SAC/NAVY/RAF/Swedish and PVO aircraft needed for my own strategic campaign between 1947-1971, and making them compatible with the game AI programming in this role. RWR is F-4E but it won't show in F-4B cockpit. Go Tweak! Click here to download this file -
Adding some flair to a cockpit...
Lexx_Luthor replied to FastCargo's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Yea that's it FC. Spot on. Alot of planes can share the same guages. I'll *guess* a generic fuel guage could be used for MiGs 15 through 19, with any face numbers needing change through the bmp file and INI file for each plane. Just a guess though. Just a note about this... FC:: You can Move and then Rotate, well at least its something. You can Move a parent mesh and then Move a child mesh. That's what I had to do for A-6 for example. Drop the entire cockpit, raise the panels and other things...this allows leaving the rear wall dropped as additional benefit. Drop and Pop. I do the same for Thudwire Thud cockpit panel inside Thudwire Thud external model. By missing parts, do you mean what may be the "drift guage" in F-105? See the blank spot on the panel here. I couldn't find this as distinct mesh. More Thudwork down this page here ~> http://bbs.thirdwire.com/phpBB/viewtopic.p...a&start=176 An BIG potential for confusion in some cockpits is mixed up X,Y,Z coordinates, and some kind of mismatch of what should be positive and negative mesh movements. ie...drop a mesh 9 meters in Z and pop the child up 9 meters but it moves in another coordinate. Strange but true. Sometimes using another coordinate makes it work, sometimes not. -
