J-32 beta
Lexx_Luthor replied to Lexx_Luthor's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Bah, trying to get rockets working right in air-air mode. By "right" I mean good dispersion by mounting them at odd angles, but only the horizontal angle works and the AI always aims low. I might skip this until I get it figured out. Wrench has experimented with gunpods as air-air rocket pods so I may look at that eventually. -
Over at capun's place, TheEditor poasted this video of cancelled super-recon Republic R-12 for me. Fuzzy, but probably rare video. Scary flypast with what seems like a lot of yaw, or so I kinda guess. Very hot design probably. Video starts after a few still photos ~> http://www.youtube.com/watch?gl=US&v=eeu04VaxssU Intro article on R-12 ~> http://www.spyflight.co.uk/Rainbow.htm

Which is best one to go for
Lexx_Luthor replied to Fleet Command CC's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
SF is the basic, and is what I use, but WoV has A-6 and F-105 cockpits which are two of the best in the series. I import all other stuff into my original SF. That takes some work though. The new Vista WoV won't have A-6 cockpit. Get the Classic WoV now before its too late. I don't know if WoE has F-105. If so, that's pretty good as it also has Hunter cockpit. -
New F-102A Cockpit was uploaded
Lexx_Luthor replied to ordway's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Ordway, try this. It matches pilot position with player. You can see the wings and just a tip of drop tank. I'm using olde SF 2006. [CockpitSeat001] ModelName=F-106_Pit Position=0.0,3.7,0.7 Offset=0.0,0.0,0.0 ViewAngles=0.0,0.0,0.0 MaxYaw=165 MinYaw=-165 MaxPitch=90 MinPitchFront=-60 MinPitchRear=-40 If I recall, the game assumes Nose is already ShowFromCockpit=FALSE by lack of this line in the DATA file, so its already good to go, I think. Poasting about drop tanks...NoJettisionTank=FALSE lets you drop the tanks. They are not perma fixed to the external model like on the F-106 model. Thanks Veltro!! -

*oops* wrong thread. Cockpit stuff. There are too many F-102 threads lately. Not that there is anything wrong with that. --- Ordway, try this. It matches pilot position with player. F-102A Delta Dagger Cockpit (Field Modified) V.5
Lexx_Luthor replied to ordway's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - File Announcements
Ah, there seems to be a somewhat clear view out front in at least one of these cockpit photos here. ~~> http://uscockpits.com/Jet%20Fighters/Jet%2...hters.html#F102 Veltro included a "sight" in the 3d Model cockpit area so I guess there is visual means of sighting the IR Falcons maybe. mmmm Fantastic work Veltros, as always and ordways!!! -
F-102A Delta Dagger Cockpit (Field Modified) V.5
Lexx_Luthor replied to ordway's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - File Announcements
Wow, ordway how you do this is beyond me. Very nice. If you are interested in standard no-guns, rotate that gunsight! I don't know how obscured this plane's view out front, but for F-106 I stack a classical junkpile in front of the pilot just by rotating that gunsight so you can't see through it. Because the 3D nature of TK's view system, you can "lean" to see around the garbage heap-- second pic below, note runway stripe that is directly in front of the aircraft. Details here, scroll down to 106 ~> http://bbs.thirdwire.com/phpBB/viewtopic.p...a&start=168 -
Strike Fighters 2 Vietnam is Released!
Lexx_Luthor replied to Gr.Viper's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Never mind. The map distance coordinates seem to indicate 1000km theoretical map size. So no change there, unless those are N.M. boxes thus making the map significantly larger. -

Interesting. What is the new game map size? -
Woa, supersonic topic there Jug. Dedicated website on this ~> http://www.spyflight.co.uk/main.htm Shot down planes is the nature of the spyplane business. Some of the most amazing history is still hidden high above the cirrus in the Siberian sky. It seems Soviet air defence squadrons were, in general, not very aggressive, in some cases very timid, and I am partially reminded of the unchallenged pre-invasion Luftwaffe recon flights. After the June 1941 invasion, ramming with attempted bailout -- not "kamikazi" -- using older aircraft became a common tactic that cost irreplacable Luftwaffe bomber and recon crews. One of the most interesting I stumbled over is: They couldn't wait for U-2 so, before TK/Thudwire added...er...before North American added air refueling to F-100, they made a half dozen unarmed RF-100A with four drop tanks for afterburning photodash over USSR. RF-100A ~> http://www.spyflight.co.uk/f100.htm Pretty smooth.

Actually, North American F-93 ~> http://www.vectorsite.net/avf86_1.html#m6 Its not too far off, if you know how to use your imagination or meds. And you all know I'm an F-93~esque kinda fella. Yes I've thought about this. Okay alright already I'll tell TIMMIE TIMMIE and we'll get this up. Sheesch. ALL THE GOOD LOOKS are Timmy's work alone. I failed at the data work for lack of time and totally different sim goals, and a panic retreat back to Patch2006. This won't have any 2008 features. -

Man this is AwSim veltro!! I read they sat alert on the grass airfield under umbrellas for the aircrew. Grass sprayed with hardener. What a life eh?...for the air crew not the lawn mower crews. -

U.S. F-16s following plane stolen in Thunder Bay, Ontario
Lexx_Luthor replied to ext's topic in Military and General Aviation
Years ago a private flight school I trained at left keys in the Cessnas at night, planes ready to fly. I thought it was dumb at the time. Have people who rent the planes drop the key in a secure drop box or something at least. But hey, used to be people in many parts could leave front doors unlocked all the time so lala. -
Happens everywhere. Some years back I saw a, I think, Wall Street Journal article about some guy in India who dissolved kids in barrels of acid. Got maybe 18 or so before he got caught. Maybe ghostrider knows about that, if true.

U.S. F-16s following plane stolen in Thunder Bay, Ontario
Lexx_Luthor replied to ext's topic in Military and General Aviation
I'd stop and wave at an F-106 pilot. -
They only made about a hundred B-58s before their numbers were cut just as quickly. That plane was one that could impress folks. If they need an F-15 replacement for a hot no-rules airwar, they can start building Lockheed F-12 or NAA F-108, or more current and far more advanced derivatives of them.

Campaign Idea for Early Cold War
Lexx_Luthor replied to TheStig's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mission/Campaign Building Discussion
MiG-3 was out of service by 1942, maybe some left way behind the front in 1943. More here, alot more, a bit much perhaps ~> http://mig3.sovietwarplanes.com/index.html A more gentle introduction, Misfit Migs by Jason Long ~> http://www.geocities.com/CapeCanaveral/2072/mig.html BUTT -- you might could fantasize your campaign with prototype "Super MiG-3s" like I-224 or I-225. These are not MiG-3s, but designed for the same role. Need a modder to make them though. More about them here ~> http://wp.scn.ru/mig_okb/planes-exp-i224 ... engines never were fully developed though. -
Do TW sims run on 64bit OS's ?
Lexx_Luthor replied to Ruiner29's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
*- most of the killer lexx_luther effects look best with the old patch. Such as?? I was afraid of this. I retreated with tail between LeGGs to old patch. One thing I recall before the retreat: Enviro sun and sunglare sizes should be doubled in the new patch. Air-Air is better, but didn't offer anything new that was useful. The tragedy I recall -- radar BVR engagement is for radar homing missiles only -- if the fighter has no RH missiles, the radar won't see anything, and so will do nothing. This prevents the new feature from simulating night intercepts with IR missiles, rockets, or guns only. The only fix I could theorize was add a few "fake" no-mass no-drag no-warhead RH missiles, having a certain minimum range, to every radar equipped fighter, such as Me-110 and Mosquito, which if they got close enough, would then switch to guns (or IRM or rockets).
