I offered to skin the bird for him, but to do the UVW Map bit on an entire airframe is probably way over my head compared with the little parts I've been creating. I have more reference material on the deuce than most, and could gladly assist in that project also - as I have mentioned before. The F-102 project seemed like it was off to a very good start, though I'd like to see a few tweaks on the -102's shape from the photos I've seen posted. Mike D.

I have no real world flying experience, but an F-4 driver that I talked to from the Michigan ANG told me that the high altitude performance (as in maneuverability) of the Phantom was just horrible above 35,000 ft. He said that at those altitudes or higher, the airplane simply won't turn in the thin air, and this is probably not even modeled correctly in the WOV series. He laughed at the thought of ACM at that altitude. Some of the real world pilots that frequent this forum could probably confirm that. Mike D.

The drag chute housing can be created as an add-on part. Not animated however, if that's what you folks meant. I'd be interested in doing this if no one else is going to...Can someone send me some good drawings and explain again which model it must go on. Mike D.

The Bradley Air Museum has some good items on display, but their indoor stuff is so jam packed together that it borders on the rediculous. Was there taking some close-ups of their F-4 a short time ago myself. Mike D.

I concur with that, this sim is the only one (well, all of them I mean) on my computer. I am as wrapped up in it all as I could be. I think about modding projects while at work, I work on them when I get home...got to spend some time FLYING it soon. I supported Yankee Air Pirate all the way as the greatest thing since sliced bread, and look forward to the same with YAP2 and anything else John comes out with for the sim. Have only actually flown a few of the 100 mission set so far though...shame on me! I'd be the first to stand in line to shake TK's hand personally. As a long time USAF Vietnam historian, the WOV sim is the sim I would have designed myself, if I had the talent and ability that I of course, lack!! And hats off to all of you modders who got me motivated to start contributing myself. Mike D.

The long distance flights would be more interesting if a working TACAN/ILS system was built into the simulation - as in Falcon 4.0, plus air-to-air refueling (come on YAP2...). Too bad it's a "lite" sim. The long hauls would then become more of a navigational/timing exercise, especially when over North Vietnam when the TACAN line-of-sight stations were out of range, and the old fashioned dead-reckoning method was employed, along with good maps and a watch. Understand about the project becoming colossal in scope - just thinking out loud. As I said in the first post, I'm just looking to have a chance to fly around the UK Phantom bases. WOE should have the German bases to bum around - I really have not spent enough time with it. I downloaded the EAW Europe conversion terrain and will give it a shot in a few days. Thanks again for the link, and the chance to think out loud. And yes, Boscomb Down was indeed a testing base for RAF Phantoms. Don't tell me you flew Hurricanes and Spits in CFS and never longed to fly back to scenery for Brooklands and Eastleigh/Martlesham Heath? Mike

File Name: Vietnam-era ECM Pods for WOV File Submitter: mppd File Submitted: 27 Aug 2008 File Category: SF/WO*/FE Weapons Mods/Skins This package offers eight ECM pod antenna configurations for the USAF ALQ-71 and ALQ-87 series pods, and a new QRC-160 pod for Wings over Vietnam.These pods represent about 90% of all photos I have seen of USAF ECM pods under USAF F-4s and F-105s in Vietnam. I have also replaced the QRC-160-1 pod as supplied with WOV as it seemed a bit large, and most I have seen had a quick coat of camouflage green paint applied. Feel free to repaint them as no two seemed exactly alike. I have elected to designate them as dash one thru dash four to represent the antenna configurations since I could find no accurate information for real designations for these. Thanks to you Mau! I'm using Lithunwrap for texture position, but version 8 and on of 3DSMax is supposed to be able to create UVW maps from within the program. Darned if I can figure it out though. I'll just stick to what I know for the small parts I want to make! Thanks again, Mike

Alconbury, Lakenheath, Upper Heyford, Woodbridge, Bentwaters, Yeovilton, Leuchars, Coningsby, Wattisham, Boscombe Down come to mind for the F-4 in USAFE/RAF/RN service. Lots of German bases, so maybe the southern UK/central Europe area is not a bad idea. Torrejon if it's visible? Mike

Thanks for the EAW terrain link. I seem to have missed this somehow. Yes, I would rather see the entire UK but this is a better start than what I would have come up with. I hate to admit it, but I have spent way too much time flying this sim simply from base to base - without any intent of releasing ordnance...! I was a bit of a USAFE historian in the 70s-80s, mostly F-4s again. I'll try to talk Baltika out of a copy of his UK terrain and perhaps we can make it into something with all of the RAF and USAFE bases of the 70s for everyone. I need to figure out how to work the flattening tool to place bases though. Thanks again, Mike D.

When I see the deuce for WOV, I can supply markings for every unit that TDY'ed in SEA, and most serial numbers too (Da Nang, Bien Hoa, Tan Son Nhut and Don Muang). The two coded units from Clark (PK- 509th FIS, PE- 64th FIS, and early dets with grey birds from the 509th Clark and 82nd FIS from Naha). Mike D. - deuce freak forever!
