F-102 Delta Dagger by Veltro2k
mppd replied to Veltro2k's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
You guys all know that the 2.75 in rockets were actually inside tubes within the doors? The inner doors had the rocket provision deleted with the AIM-26 mod, which had larger fins and required cut-outs in the two center doors. The out two doors each retained three tubes each, with two rockets inside each for a total of only 12. Do you folks need any diagrams of this stuff - the deuce is my fav. I have an Illustrated parts breakdown (dash 34) and a structural repair manual which could help. I can scan some stuff for y'all. Mike D. -

WOV F-4C and D Upgrade
mppd replied to mppd's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - File Announcements
Thanks for the compliments. Now that I've sort of figured out the 3-D stuff, I can try to help someone else out in between my own projects. I'm redoing the original USAF F-4 tailcodes with some corrections and a touch up here and there. Not sure what you meant about making the forward fuselage decals "limited it to the areas really needed" - my railxxx.tga decals were exactly what I needed - from the rear canopy rails all the way forward to include the red nose radome band on 497th TFS F-4Cs at Ubon. Feel free to modify these as you wish. Too bad about the limits to number of decals. I have seen very detailed canopy rail decals (check out the Thunderbird F-4E package available here I think) but then you lose the nose intake details (the colors on these don't fit all that well...). As usual, any add-on package is a compromise and eventually one reaches the point of saying that it's "good enough". There is a thread I've been watching about detailed/accurate add-ons - I can relate to that. I would love absolute accuracy and detail, but often times information is scarce. I should release ALQ-71/87 ECM pods this week - and as with any add-on, I reached the point of saying that it's good enough for the typical distances I view them at. If someone else likes it enough to use it - great. If they are'nt good enough for you, don't download it, and send me some super detailed photos and drawings for something better. I did it for my own use anyway - feel free to use it if you'd like to! Happy flying, Mike Druz. -

Vietnam-era ECM pod textures
mppd posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Anyone aken the time to spiff up the ECM pod textures for WOV? Or perhaps created some new shapes? If not, I'll take a crack at it. Could use any photos and/or measurements anyone can provide (ALQ-71, 87, 101 mostly). Thanks, Mike D. -

Oh by the way, installed the ALQ-101 from the WOI weapons pack into my WOV install (the QRC-335 designation) and it looks great! Good job you guys. The long -2 version was also seen by the time of the Linebacker opns - man is it LOOONG! Thanks again, Mike D. -

GE AN/ALQ-71 series: (V)-2, (V)-1, (V)-3 (ALQ-MK IIIA). No photos of the -4 which is the longest of the bunch (124 inches) so it may be rare or perhaps post-Vietnam era. Mike D. -
Hunter FGA fuselage serial number decals
mppd replied to Syrinx's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - File Announcements
All these serial number decals are a great idea. Nice job. They are still missing from WOV Marine Corps Skyhawks and F-4s still....just in case you were looking for another project to work on. Mike D. -
Attach pilot to moving parts?!
mppd replied to 76.IAP-Blackbird's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
I'd sure like to know if this can be done. The static wicks on the LORAN F-4D mod I did look great when the plane is in level flight, but as the stabilator goes up or down - well...the wicks don't... Mike D. -

Again, I was sort of trolling a bit to see if someone might chime in with "Oh, I already did that, just never uploaded it"...If you'd like to contribute, I'd welcome any scans you can spare! Feel free to PM me, Thanks a million, Mike D. -
Personalized Decal
mppd replied to Jug's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
When I created my various F-4 project decals, I used MyTai's idea of a forward fuselage decal which is large in size, but has canopy rail decals. You can add any custom names for most any squadron markings I did for the F-4s. I started out with names on the rails of actual pilots who were with the units, but the research became tedious and I ended up often using a common name. Same for crew chief decals. Ever notice the C/C Alfred E. Newman on several of my F-4 decals? Mike D. -
Mirage Factory RF-4C

Dave, Again, nice job. Are you going to release a pre-1971 SEA version without the tape lights? Or is there a way to disable them? Thanks, Mike D. -

WOV F-4C and D Upgrade
mppd replied to mppd's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - File Announcements
Thanks all you guys. I could have continued tweaking this project for another month, and I wanted to include a reissue of the Phantom tailcodes and serials I'm repairing, but I really wanted to just get it out for some feedback from someone else. The added-on parts seem to have no real effect on framerates on my PC when viewed externally, so this really opens up a world of possibilities for every little bump/lump/antenna on your own favorite airplane in this sim! The simple parts are colored within the program so did not even require a texture mapping routine (just a little trial and error getting the color shades close to what was needed). Any little vents or details that don't look as good on a texture can be created and stuck on to appear sharp in the sim...I'm really enthused about all this. Still just a patch/kludge job from a hacker until you guys release a REAL F-4C/D. Mike -
Version

This package upgrades the visual models for the F-4C and F-4D in Wings over Vietnam with several small details that have been bugging me for a while, and is really intended for the detail nut like me until the Mirage Factory releases a real F-4C/D upgrade. It also upgrades the textures for the basic USAF camouflage which I created some time ago, fixing some errors. The decals.ini for each plane are set up to use my USAF F-4 decals package available here at CombatAce (also due for an overhaul and update), but can easily be replaced by the default version for the F-4C/D if you don't like it. The LORAN F-4D uses the default F-4D decals and markings - so if you installed my LORAN packages don't use the decals.ini in this. This package adds four new airplanes so as to not over-write your default F-4C or F-4D. It consists of the F-4C block 21 (a typical post-1966 C model), an F-4D block 30 '67-'69 (the basic F-4D used between those years), an F-4D block 30 '69-'75 (the basic F-4D after the four nose ECM bulges were removed and capped off) and an F-4D with the LORAN AN/ARN-92 Chelton "towel rack" fuselage spine antenna. The textures vary in worn appearance from plane to plane as presented here. The '67-'69 F-4D version has upper surface star & bar with no blue outline as as typical of these airplanes when they left St. Louis for the first years of service in Southeast Asia. My minor add-ons include: Four nose AN/APS-107 ECM antennas on early F-4Ds (not in quite the correct ositions, but probably good enough) Silver radome tip Revised under nose RHAW antennas for F-4C and F-4D Upper fuselage IFF antenna on F-4D behind canopy Two black under fuselage antennaa (TACAN I think) Pitot tubes under nose, on left side of nose and inside air intakes Structural braces in between intakes and fuselage The inboard leading edge flaps work as they are supposed to. I have also added a newer shape for the 370 gallon external wing tank, which I have enclosed. Each data.ini defaults to this. You must know how to use the Weaponeditor to install it. I used the default values from the simulation's default 370 gallon tank in the weapondata.ini: Mike Druzolowski -

Weapondata entry for rearward dispensing CBU
mppd replied to mppd's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
If you can dig it up, that would be great. No sense redoing it unless I have to, and it would be a good add-on I think. I can live with a dispenser function as close as the sim allows... I'll put it on the back burner for now until I hear from you. Have to finish these little F-4 details I'm working on first. I'll bet that there are a lot of little projects like this out there that were started some time ago and never released for everyone! Thanks, Mike -

File Name: Resized CBU-24/B CBU shape File Submitter: mppd File Submitted: 12 Jul 2008 File Category: SF/WO*/FE Weapons Mods/Skins This is a replacement visual model of the CBU-24/B CBU shape I made. The previous one was too long (converted from GMax issue perhaps). This one fits fore and aft on an MER. Skin is a bit better also. Mike D. Click here to download this file -
Making a pseudo F-4C/D
mppd replied to mppd's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
O.K. I'm doing an update package for the F-4C/D visual models with all of the little missing antennas, static wicks, pitot tubes/etc. that have been bugging me for so long. I think that these really help spiff up the visual models and make them a bit more accurate for the detail buffs who might be interested. Anyone with any ideas for this please PM me or feel free to post to this thread. I hope to update my F-4 serial numbers and tailcodes for this as well. After I finish this I really intend to start FLYING this sim and stop modding it... Thanks, Mike D. -
366th TFW "Gunfighters" F-4Ds for WOV
mppd posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - File Announcements
File Name: 366th TFW "Gunfighters" F-4Ds for WOV File Submitter: mppd File Submitted: 9 Jul 2008 File Category: F-4 366th TFW "Gunfighters" F-4Ds for Wings over Vietnam This package is an attempt to give a more accurate look to the F-4Ds of PACAF's 366th TFW at Da Nang from 1968 to 1969. As was the case with the wing's F-4Cs, the 366th TFW adopted their own unique tailcode system where the first letter represented the squadron (A for the 389th TFS, B for the 390th TFS and C for the 480th TFS) and the second letter A thru Z was assigned to each individual aircraft. A total of 51 airplanes are supplied, all of which are serial numbers of actual F-4Ds from each squadron. Almost all tailcode/serial number combinations presented here are real. There is some variation in markings from plane to plane as seen in actual photos. Everyone enjoy, and if you have additional details to help make this package even better, please let me know! Yes, of course it can be done! It is on my list of things to do after I finish with these little do-dads for the Phantom. Give me a few days. Need to dig up dimensions though, probably from the reference I have should not de difficult. Mike D. the new 3D guy (for little stuff only though...) -
