http://www.news.com.au/story/0,23599,22378959-29277,00.html Bare-bottomed activists scuffle with police September 07, 2007 04:35pm Article from: AAP A PROTEST involving around 50 bare-bottomed activists spilled onto Sydney streets today, stalling an APEC motorcade and triggering scuffles with police. The Bums for Bush campaign was hailed a success by organisers, even though drizzling rain kept many protesters away from the mooning anti-Bush protest. Around 50 people lined up at Hyde Park's north end and mooned an audience of several hundred people, including supporters and media. After two encores of the performance, rain dispersed the protest, which then moved to Elizabeth Street, outside the Sheraton on the Park hotel, where witnesses said protesters blocked an APEC motorcade. Protesters took to the streets before police officers forcibly pushed people off the road, yelling: "Move, get off the road." Around 200 protesters lined both sides of Elizabeth Street and played blaring music, as police on bicycles stood watch. Barely minutes after many in the crowd moved towards the hotel, a helicopter swooped over the scene while a bus delivered an additional 20 police officers. Protesters, carrying placards reading "Sign Kyoto, you wankers", cheered and clapped, chanting "Bush, Howard, USA, how many kids did you kill today?" Police could not immediately confirm the reports that protesters had hindered a motorcade. At the Bums for Bush protest, organiser Will Saunders said while the protest did not approach the mooning world record - 2,000 people, or 4,000 cheeks - it was enjoyed by all. "Just because you feel strongly about an issue doesn't mean you can't laugh about it," Mr Saunders said. "There's many ways of making a point, (this is) the Australian way." The protest also involved a 21-bum salute to the 21 countries in APEC, some spelling out "bums not bombs". High school students Ben Leffley and Daniel Holmes travelled for three hours from Lithgow, west of the NSW Blue Mountains, to attend the rally. Mr Leffley, 18, said the war in Iraq was the biggest motivation for him to join the protest, and he did not believe mooning was the best way to oppose it. "We've come here because we really believe what George Bush and John Howard are doing is not right," he said. "(The protest) was good, though probably not the most effective way." But Mr Holmes, 17, said mooning was an excellent way of attracting attention to a cause. "It may be somewhat symbolic but it's more the fact that it's raising awareness ... people are going to want to find out why we're showing our arses and that will raise awareness," he said.

All we know for sure is that upward TVC doesn't work at the moment. I think it is somehow tied to the jumpjet TVC coding as it seems to be limited to the same degree (thrust down for hover, back for forward flight, both of which are used in the OVT's TVC) -

Not too many people in Australia know this but the RAAF F-111C/Gs have recently had their capabilities expanded to include dropping live ordinance! They'll soon be retired from their front line role of entertaining pissed up racing fans at local Formula 1/Indy/Clipsal 500 events, eventually being replaced by the F/A-18A+, but in the meantime, they're showing international drug smuggling cartels who's who and what's what about trying to smuggle drugs through Australian waters... http://www.spikedhumor.com/articles/122138..._Drug_Ship.html Take that unarmed and unarmoured freighter!!

I bet it comes out looking like a viper after you're done with it... Just going by the last few fighters you've released -
I dunno, it may have had a good outcome for us here. "Pig Iron Bob" (Former Prime Minister Bob Menzes) wouldn't have stayed in power for so long. In 1965 (or whenever) he wouldn't have made the infamous "All the way with LBJ" speech. He would have been turfed out of office sooner, we would have distanced ourselves from Mother England sooner, hell, we might have been a republic today! Yeah... a lot of that would have worked out nicely... Damn imperial Japnese pilots who didn't shoot straight!

Chavez vows revenge for Falklands war

Hey, I don't like Americans either! You bastards get all the cute Sydney girls during fleet week!! But then again... I spose the opposite was true when my buds and I were in the US/Canada... Nah, I can't hold it against you Yanks. I think Silverbolt's got a good point. It is just popularism, but do remember anti-American sentiment can score you BIG points in quite a few places around the world, even here in Oz. I was keen to see Prez Chaves take office initially because I thought it might produce a nation that was independent of the polarising Pro-US/Anti-US sentiment active since 11/9/01... but with crackdowns on political opposition, the TV station shutdown and his general antics (like his 'demon' speech at the UN)... I don't know. I think the sabre rattling will be fine, if it's just that. It'll score him points on the world stage, the US will get mileage out of it too, but should he succeed in creating a Southern Pan-American Army --Note, not an alliance of nations or economic union, both of which would be far more beneficial for South American nations looking to develop an economic/military parity with strong nations such as the US and China, he'll only lead it downhill. I think that's why you'll see Bolivia, Argentina, Peru et al quite hesitant to commit to such an endeavour as it would drag them into conflict they may not necessarily believe A. They should be in or B. That they're capable of participating in (remember that the local economies there are still recovering). and PS, there is an Anti-US sentiment in Oz, but thankfully, most of them are smart enough to realise that it's the government they're quarraling with, not the people of CONUS. There's a big difference! (Oh, and I'm left leaning and I approve this message. Vote Quimby!) -

Indian Air Force floats tender for 126 fighter jets
SayethWhaaaa replied to ghostrider883's topic in Military and General Aviation
Without meaning to sound anti-US, but in regards to India, and speaking historically, Russian and France have been much more reliable when it's come to arms deals and tech transfers with India. Plus considering the speculative price of the Typhoon, I'm thinking India would want a next generation fighter if they're going to hand over that amount of cash! -
