Well that's the thing, they were supposed to be using biodiesel generators, solar panels, etc to make it as carbon neutral as possible, but the inherent evil is that events this large on their own are pretty grotty, on a global scale...? The only thing worse than leaving one bad ecological footprint is leaving about 12. And when ever you go to an event like this, come dawn, you see nothing but a sea of plastic bottles on the ground. (thank christ we have the 5c deposit Don't get me wrong, I'm kinda for this event, but I think there are gonna be some big problems with it. I think the aim to make people more aware of it succeeded, but the concerts had people preaching to the converted or polarising people against the event with the "Who are you to tell me what to do" no matter how passive the encouraging. Still I think the bigger turnoff is the fact that most energy efficient or environmentally friendly variants of existing products are expensive simply because they don't yet have the economies of scale behind them like existing products do. But I'm with Eraser_tr "What I can't stand about the whole matter is that doing things more environmentally friendly is decried for "hurting the economy" while other nations do it and have a better economy than us."

How to use LGB ?
SayethWhaaaa replied to Luiz Carlos's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I seem to remember there being an issue with LGBs being able to be launched against static targets without a pod, but not mobile ones (This had something to do with the bug that allows you to target aircraft with LGBs too). Even though you'd need a pod or internal designator for any LGB/PGM use. Luiz, just check the A-10_date.ini to make sure that at least one of the hardpoints has the entry "LP" under weapon types (you know where it says "BOMB,LGB,RP,EGOR" etc. One of the inner pylons should have it. That way, it should definitely show up ingame next time you load it up. -

F-16I Sufa Version 2.0
SayethWhaaaa replied to Dave's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - File Announcements
Funny you should say that, I saw an entry for CFTs a while ago, but I was given the impression they it didn't work... I'm at work now, but I'm wondering if they can be added to the regular vipers without much fuss...? This means I could potentially make a poor man's Blk 60 when I get home, yeah? -
Great snaps for sure! Cheers muchly for posting them. Does anyone know if that Vulcan is finally airworthy? I know that was the eventualy aim for the last(?) surviving member of its species but funding was kinda sparse. I know what I would have spent NBA contract on... if I had one!

Shot down by SA-7
SayethWhaaaa replied to Tantobot's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Hey, you've gotta ask questions if you want to know something. You know low and fast is a great way to avoid mosts SAMs, yeah? I'm guessing you've overflown the SAMs at several hundered feet plus and it hasn't fired. Check the weapons.ini and make sure it's available in the year you're flying (by changing the inservice dates, plently of places to find out how here.) otherwise, other factors could be that it won't fire at you if you've killed its radar. Any ECM will make it harder for it to lock on to you and chaff will kill a lock for a few seconds (at least on mine it does) Try the knowledge base, there'll be threads on .ini editing, if indeed this is the problem. I'll have look around because I'm pretty sure I read something on it, I just can't remember where... -
How to create anti ship msn. with carrier
SayethWhaaaa replied to vulkan's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I gotta disagree with you Fubar. You can nail a carrier, any carrier, nothing's unsinkable... except for Tasmania, and god knows we've tried Carriers can still take significant, nay, terminal damage to the primary hull beneath the flight deck, interiors etc but effective control teams can limit the amount of damage taken. . But the biggest problem is that attacks on Carriers are cost prohibitive. The effort required would simply over extend or be beyond what a potential adversary could field. And even then, the potential success of the attack is not guaranteed. Cruise missiles are considered to be one of the best methods of attacking a carrier but the number required and unit cost would have a significant impact on that country's defence budget or even economy, and that's before you consider the aerial defence network of destroyers and AEGIS cruisers and early warning systems (AWACS), hard and soft kill devices (respective examples such as NULKA and CIWS) or even the carrier's air embarked defence. Nevertheless, if you have the money, the resources (aerial jamming, guidance, AWACS, fleets of air defence/strike assets and cruise missiles, pilots), the will power and moral flexibility to absorb large numbers of casualties, tackling a carrier can be done. It'd be the modern day equivalent of a WWI daylight troop charge into machine gun fire through minefields and razor wire, but it could be done... ...okay, so technically you're right... I'll just shut up now. I will say this though; it'd be interesting to see how these tactics will change as Low Observable aircraft increasingly come into play. -

Balance of Terror is what got me into TOS when I was growing up with TNG, but the space hippies were gold! Kirk went from being the man to being THE MAN. It was gold! -

Big super happy fun time independence day to you all! I'd kill for a day off and a midweek bbq, but meh, what can you do? -
I like that there's possibly someone out there who can say "Because of me, now they have a warning."

See? It's easy to spot the Michael Bay parts

I thought he said sabot rounds, but I thought they were cannon rounds but I don't pretend to know anything about armour/arty related stuff. Best part of the film for me was watching two guys (super hardcore nerds like comic book guy from simpsons) who just went at it in the queue after some argument. Kinda resembled this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QlhAqFKBEBs

I was too! And there's cheesy dialogue, but it's nowhere near as godawful as his other flicks (or Anikin in Star Wars 2). This one's more Spielburg than Bay thank christ! While we're on the subject, was it just me, or were there angled decks on the carriers in Pearl Harbour...? Hey Jedi, I thought it was a world wide release? That's odd. You guys see films like 6 months before we do usually. My partner and I saw "Lucky Number Sleven" in Canada April 2k6 (there were trailers running in Oz when we left) and it only got released about 3 months ago under the title "The Wrong Man". So go figure...

THE BEST AIR TO AIR MISSILE
SayethWhaaaa replied to boris1234's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
No one ever mentions the R-73 anymore. Is there still a belief that Russians are somehow unable to produce quality weapons systems? In close combat, only the Aim-9X has an edge on it, and even then it's not much. But either way, it's all moot really. Amraam/Amraamski/Meteor have really consigned knife fighting to history. -
Just saw the film last night and all I can say is "holy crap!" That's a nice assortment of USAF toys on display, especially in that first strike against that deceptecon! I'll say nothing more lest I give anything at all away...

I'd like to know how you got such crystal clear snaps while driving! My digicam doesn't do that...

Mirage 2000...
SayethWhaaaa replied to hide86's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
I have a 2000C model for it, but I'm just having a few problems integrating it into the SFP since it's the first time I've tried to. -
So what's the deal wih Megatron? Is he still a gun? Or is he a tank? I seem to remember after Larry Hama left the helm of GI Joe, Marvel crossed it over with Transformers and Megatron crashed to Earth shortly after. Cobra found him, repaired him and suddenly he was a giant tank. Was this Transformers-canon, or is he still a big gun? And please tell me Blaster and Lazerbeak are gonna be in it... although a ghetto blaster that plays cassettes is gonna be pretty conspicuous these days; and I can't see Lazerbeak transforming from an Ipod!

http://www.news.com.au/story/0,23599,21943029-1702,00.html Welcome to Diarrheair... Sewage flows down plane aisles mid-flight PASSENGERS on board a trans-Atlantic flight had to cover their noses for hours after sewage started overflowing from the plane's toilets, according to reports. Things started to go wrong on the Continental Airlines flight 1970 from Amsterdam to Newark, New Jersey about two hours after the plane left Amsterdam, US news site King5.com reported. Passengers were told the toilets were out of order, and the plane then made an unscheduled landing in Shannon, Ireland, so the problem could be fixed overnight. However, after the plane took off for New Jersey the next day, the sewage again started overflowing, seeping into the aisles. "I've never felt so offended in all my life. I felt like I had been physically abused and neglected. I was forced to sit next to human excrement for seven hours," passenger Colin Brock said. Mr Brock said there was one partially-working toilet on the plane and more than 200 passengers. According to king5.com, Mr Brock also said the flight attendants - who went ahead with the meal service - told everyone to not eat or drink too much. "To be told that we were supposed to monitor what comes out the other end of us was insulting," said Mr Brock. "It was the worst flight experience I have ever had."

True dat, double true! I got burnt by that. Important to back it up as if you don't, you edit it and it goes south,LOMAC has a huge hissy fit. I practically had to re-install just for a single file!
