SayethWhaaaa replied to Psychobabble's topic in Digital Combat Simulator Series General Discussion
Hey, back on topic fo a moment, you might be able to do it with LOPE which you can get from here: http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?autom...mp;showfile=619 It's been a while since I played, so I may be completely wrong. I'm sure it allowed you to add MER types to individual hardpoints. If not, my apologies for wasting your time. Carry on. -
I'm a bit of a smartass as those of you who've had the misfortune of dealing with me have discovered Consequently, this is reflected in my nicknames. In Call of Duty (and UO) my buddy and I would team up under the names "ComradeJerkov" and "ComradeFah*ov" respectively. In CoD I also used the name "YourChancesOfEverBeingLaidGeek" so when I got nailed it would appear onscreen "You killed: YourChancesOfEverBeingLaidGeek". In Vietcong I used the name "Cannon Fodder" as I would get killed repeatedly on some servers. Sometimes "CharlieInTheTreeline" also. When I worked with the Freespace 2 community with modding and in online campaigns etc, I used "Callsign", again, because I'm a smartass (but a smartass who'd work as part of a team!) Saywhat?! On the otherhand... that's a different story. It's usually the last thing I hear before the girl slaps me. :black eye: jk

More Effective Camos
SayethWhaaaa replied to Dave's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
This is has nothing to do with what you guys are producing but I have a low-viz european camo for the Flanker here: Also, if you look here, there are actually 2 Flankers... By the way, I love that Italian Mirage! -
This was taken down by a kid with a pistol no less... Here's the story: http://www.news.com.au/adelaidenow/story/0...5006301,00.html Took him about 3 hours and 8 rounds apparantly. You Alabhamans are ballsy, no question. No-one's EVER gonna pick a fight with kid...

New russian stealth fighter
SayethWhaaaa replied to Falcon161's topic in Military and General Aviation
I think they've realised that the doctrine of quantity over quality is very wasteful and one of the keys to the USSR's downfall. They've been trying to get away from that for a while simply beause it was holding back future developments and modernisation. Once they shed Ground Control Interception, the VVS will be much more adaptable and stronger because of it. Force multiplication is a powerful element in the military environment these days and if you don't adapt... well you end up with an antique AF like the North Koreans, or Bolivia and their T-33 interceptors. -
Lod Viewer
SayethWhaaaa replied to Jimbib's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
I would personally like something like that since I can no longer run 3dms on my system anymore (for some unfathomable reason) so it would make editing and updating textures a whole lot quicker and since skinning takes a lot of time, I would cherish anything that allows me to view my skins as they would be in-game without the 5 mins loading everytime I want to check my changes. Plus something that shows XYZ co-ords would help with organising decals, hardpoint placements, chaff/flares dispensers and so on, but maybe that's a bit of an ask... -

Personally, I think it would be a great addition. It'd save a lot of time with skinning since you wouldn't have to load the game everytime... -

Not to be a wet blanket or anything, but I think that article has been debunked as a 3dms fake, albeit, a very good looking construct. It's a hme... I was kinda hoping it wasn't. -
Soviet/Russian LGB's
SayethWhaaaa replied to Atreides's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I know the VVS was in the process of increasing production of precision guided munitions and they had quite a sizable supply of conventonal weapons. I know it was their intention to emulate the US services in having a predominantly PGM based arsenal and also for the healthier Russian market for Russian arms. There were articles in AFM/Air international and one at the Jane's site that stated they were developing PGM mod kits and GPS kits too. But I can't seem to find those pages any more. -
Effective Camo
SayethWhaaaa replied to Dave's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Looks good, nice skin too. It makes sense though, it's such a versitile platform, carries a massive and varied payload and just looks pretty damn good in green.. I've been toying around with the idea too, although mine was a strike variant of the RNZAF F-16(K?) that never materialised (and mine was a modified B). http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r187/du...oy/img00012.jpg (the one in background) Yours is gonna rock! ps. Just curious, but are you going to allow it to retain it's air to air capabilities, F-15E-style, or are you going for a more dedicated mud moving role, maybe without a BVR ability? -
Su-27/33 ECM Pod Doubt
SayethWhaaaa replied to fedaputa's topic in Digital Combat Simulator Series General Discussion
They won't protect you against IR missiles. You have to use it in combination with chaff/flares, you can't just rely on it to protect you. They're best used with other CMs. Also it depends on how close you are to nearby radar sources. ECM has a more noticable effect when fighting BVR. Sparrows, R-27s etc don't perform as well at longer ranges in a high jamming environment. There's also the missile effectiveness tab in LOMAC. What do you have that set at? The higher the setting, the more effective the missile is. What version are you using. In the default version (1.0) the US/western aircraft have a slight advantage (in terms of weapon effectiveness) and in Flaming cliffs, the Russian weapon systems have a slight advantage over the US/Western systems, although I'm not sure if this has been balanced out with patches. -

New russian stealth fighter
SayethWhaaaa replied to Falcon161's topic in Military and General Aviation
I reckon you're onto something. You look at something like F-22 or F-23, planes built from the ground up to be as stealthy and as advanced as possible so much so that they create new standards of comparison. There's the F-35 that is designed as a cheap(kinda ) , yet advanced multipurpose platform that finds a balance between advanced technology and stealth. Then you have aircraft like Rafaele, Saab Gripen, Super Hornet and even the F-16 to a degree which are conventional designs but contain design features, good ones too, that significantly lower radar returns when compared with previous generation aircraft like the F-14 and F-15. This line of thinking is why I think Flanker vs Raptor comparisons bug me as in terms of stealth, it would fit into the same catagory as these last two aircraft. -
Happy bday champ! Doing bugger-all is one of the best ways to celebrate it!

Naval Aircraft formation over Mt Fuji...
SayethWhaaaa replied to Major Lee's topic in Military and General Aviation
Crap, have the S-3s been retired already?? I thought the USN was intending to leave a small number in service for light ship deliverys/crew transfer and VIP transports...? That's a shame. It was a good multirole platform. By the way, that's some nice tail art there in front of Fuji! -

F-35A
SayethWhaaaa replied to serverandenforcer's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
LM's X-35 suffered from that from time to time. It's a problem Harriers and other STOVL jets face because of the nature of VTOL takeoffs. -
New russian stealth fighter
SayethWhaaaa replied to Falcon161's topic in Military and General Aviation
Well, in theory... it works. Only problem is that if it does, the fighter's radar won't as the ionised plasma that prevents incoming radar pulses from bouncing back also prevents any radar pulses from being emitted, or screws them up heavily. No one's sure on how this relates to AESA. Given the ammounts of money being thrown into the project, I'd want it working like the Romulan cloaking device... -

You think that looks like the F-22, this was a proposal for the PAK-FA from a few years ago... Also you'll notice, it's got external stores and wingtip rails, prolly one of the reasons it may not have been chosen...
