Damn, that green/grey 'cat looks fantastic! -
Continuing that long Saudi policy of having anyone else do the dirty work to achieve their own (or parallel) foreign policy aims while avoiding doing anything at all that requires them getting their hands dirty in any way...

HELO side door gunners
SayethWhaaaa replied to bubu's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
I think the closest anyone got was setting up a bunch of static ground targets that were designated as 'air units' (the same way as parked aircraft and FE's balloons are) and then flying low to them, which is, unfortunately, useless for CAS or armed recon missions as they'll only use ground units. A few years ago I tried to use the apkws as a stand-in gun by retexturing the rockets as large tracer rounds with the hope that I could arm a gunship turret with this, but they wouldn't fire on anything. It was a mess. -
What's the point of surfing if it's too cold for bikinis?? I dunno, that's just my take from a country that's hotter than the Planet Mercury for 11 months of the year.

Cure for Cancer (more simple than we thought?)
SayethWhaaaa replied to UK_Widowmaker's topic in The Pub
I don't buy this, at least, it's not a one stop, cure-all for cancer. It'll be like everything else, it'll help assist some people with certain types, especially in combination with other treatments-- and that's great, but a standalone 'cure'? No. I'd like to believe this, but I can't. I say this because of the goddamned efficiency of my wife's cancer, which is (apparently) chemo and radio resistant and rapidly mutates while shedding non-resistant cells while still creating new skin mets-- and this is while she's receiving an antibiotic treatment for something else entirely. I'm with FC on this. Once something is available that can kill cancerous and pre-cancerous cells cold, without any hint of resistance or propagation, and when medical researchers across the planet are in agreement about it, then, I'll be optimistic about it. ...and since you guys brought it up, Fuck (with a capital F) anti-vaxxers. All of them, everywhere, preferably with something blunt. They, and their arrogant anti-intellectualism and conspiracy theories are a blight on our society that is causing untold harm to us all. -
SAAF AC-47's
SayethWhaaaa replied to dsawan's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Sci-Fi/Anime/What If Forum
Funny you should say 'what-if', but that's not the case. The SAAF did convert at least one, possibly as many as four (estimates vary) Daks into gunships using a combination of .50 cal and 20mm guns, and possibly a 40mm, short barreled bofors type (though I've never seen anything definitive on that), installed on locally designed mounts. It's hard to say because information on those, and the Rhodesian/Zimbabwean AC-47s, is quite difficult to come by. They apparently had a similar build to the Indonesian/TNI-AU 'AC-47s' (they were actually DC-3 conversions) used in the annexation of Timor Leste, but again, information on Indonesia's gunships is also extremely difficult to obtain. Also, the SAAF version was apparently built on the C-47, not the BT-67 style turbo conversions, as those didn't come into use until the very late 80s, between '89 and '91 and the SAAF's 'Dragon Daks' were in use from (again, this varies) 1979 (1981?) to the late Eighties. There are a few photos of the SAAF Daks at the very bottom of this link http://aircraftnut.blogspot.com.au/2014/05/ac-47-dakota-gunship-spooky-and-puff.html- 1 reply

LOD Viewer
SayethWhaaaa replied to mue's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
I've noticed that, of some of the skins don't immediately show, sometimes not even in the pull down menu. But if the skin is in the same folder as the lod, it should display automatically. Mue, random question, but this will only show one lod at a time, yeah? ie, If I'm using a model with additional added elements like the Altas Cheetah, can I get the additional lods to show as well? Oh, and I love this, btw! Thanks! -

SayethWhaaaa replied to mue's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
Scanned the LODviewer.zip/contents with MSE and Malwarebytes. Both record it as clean. My personal advice, never, ever download or activate anything named 'download.exe'. I've seen too many of those and they're always dodgy as sh*t. PS, I've been dying for something like this for years!! -

RN Phantoms - Operation Corporate
SayethWhaaaa replied to Spinners's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Sci-Fi/Anime/What If Forum
You're all assuming the weather conditions would have been clam enough to permit CATOBAR carrier ops, which, during the time of year the Falklands conflict took place, wouldn't have been. Not in region the RN CVLs operated in, at least. For these kinds of ops, it was said in the RN's analysis that any conventional carrier battle group would have to have been based further away to avoid the bad weather cells and make the most of the (somewhat) calmer conditions East/NE. It probably wouldn't have been too taxing for Phantoms and Buccs in terms of range, but it would have been a big stretch if the Poms didn't deploy a decent number of IFR aircraft, or AEW&C to coordinate air ops. -
Metal Storm had a 40mm weapon system based on their 20mm CIWS that topped out at around 250k/minute. Australian designers win this pissing contest!!

Outstanding! That's a fantastic xmas pressie, Falcon! We wish you all the best from in your fight against this bastard disease!

Hey, I'm not blaming guns, I'm just telling you what the prevailing attitude is and why it won't happen here. That's what everyone is really pissed with now. This prick had something like 40 aggravated assault and sexual assault charges against him, he's a suspect in his wife's murder and was known to have publicly threatened her to shoot her, was known to be a religious extremist/fundamentalist and has been known to disseminate inflammatory jihadist materials, speeches, etc, YET, was allowed out on bail for the wife/murder charge and wasn't on any watch list when he should have been on several. Christ, if I told a cop to go fornicate himself with a sharp stick, I'd be detained and put on a watch list, and I have no criminal record (that I'm aware of, other than being dangerously good looking. ). Someone fucked up seriously here. On what planet do you give someone like that a benefit of the doubt and release them back into the community?! Our PM has a rudimentary grasp on simple things like speaking, writing without crayons and not covering his face with food when he eats. You'd get a better, more qualified answer on any aspect of government from an 8yr old.

Now saying the six wounded have gunshot wounds and that one of the dead, a 34yr old man named Tori Johnson, attacked or struggled with the gunman right before the raid took place. It's being said (I think by the other hostages, I need to check the source because it's a little vague, yet it's getting coverage across the media outlets) that he attacked, or tried to take the weapon from the gunman and this bought time for some of the hostages to escape. The other victim was Katrina Dawson, 38, Barrister and mother of 3 ( all under ten, too. ) who was shielding a pregnant friend. Police are being extremely tight lipped about the deets still, which is leading some outlets to ask if maybe some of the injuries were accidentally inflicted by the Tac-Response. We probably won't get any further details for a few days until they sweep the scene, interview the victims, etc. The update about the policeman injured was that it was a shotgun discharge that grazed his face, not a shot to his chest as was first broadcast. As for the 'neutered' suggestion, I respectfully say to my American cousins: Horseshit. The prevailing attitude amongst a clear majority of population here is that easy access to guns exacerbates crime, and generally cause more problems than they could solve. We see the kind of things, particularly the school shootings, college shootings, disgruntled employee shootings, murder/suicides, theatre shootings, etc, etc that happen over there, and are appalled by them, and then fail to understand why you guys don't (or maybe can't) do anything about such easy access to deadly firearms. In short, we see what happens over there, and we don't things like that to happen here, especially after Port Arthur in '96, which is why we vet the shit out of potential firearms owners now. Now, that might not work for you guys since your right to own/carry weapons is constitutionally protected, but our approach works for us, and as I stated earlier, 18 years without a massacre, is considered a fantastic result in this country. Over here, being required to have background, criminal and mental health checks before being allowed to get a license for firearms is a no-brainer. Christ, I had to go through the same checks before joining the ADF, purely for the reason they wanted to ensure I wasn't some kind of violent sociopath with poor impulse control, like this wannabe jihadist prick in Sydney (I'm deliberately not using his name, because f*ck him, he's done enough and doesn't deserve the privilege!). That said, I don't have a problem with or with owning firearms (I've owned a couple and I've still got mates who shoot), but I don't want to see nutters with death wishes have easy access to them. I earned the right to use mine, that's how it should be here. (Yeah, I know, this will sound like crazy talk to Americans! ) Back on subject for a sec, there was one thing I thought was interesting: If you watch the assault, the Tac-Response team didn't f*ck around. They were very liberal with the use of flashbangs, and when they went in, they went in hard. Exactly what you want to see when dealing with a fundie nutjob!
-
Why? Guns have never been a significant part of our culture, and the last time something close to this happened, it was 1996. 18 years without a mass shooting is a pretty f*cking good run! Plus, as much as we bitch about the police in this country, they get the job done. In NSW alone, there's been something like 335 call outs involving the Tactical Response Group this year (going by the news outlets over the past 24 hours), and you can count the number of deaths from those incidents on one hand. You can still get guns in this country, you just have to have background checks, mental health checks (plus other methods of vetting for what's termed 'dangerous firearms) and get the appropriate license. And most guns for 'civilian' uses are used in the country anyways. Australians, in general, just don't really have a taste for them.

Just before the raid at around 10 past 2, a group of about 5-6 hostages fled the building, after that, gunshots were apparently heard inside the cafe. It's not exactly clear who it was who went in, most likely NSW tactical response group, but news outlets here keep saying 'commandos' as ADF personnel were reported on scene too. Seems to be the gunman might have started shooting the hostages, but it also seems like they might have perished during the exchange of gunfire-- the police are being really coy about that right now. One hostage was shot in the shoulder, but she was taken to Royal Prince Alfred and appears to be fine, relatively speaking. It's being reported that one of the cops took a hit, but his vest prevented any life threatening injuries. Here's an info packet on the gunman from the ABC. Take a look at the video. Real f*cking head case. http://www.abc.net.au/news/2014-12-16/iranian-man-haron-monis-named-as-man-behind-sydney-siege/5969246 Yeah, he just seemed like a real caricature, huh?
-
Po-po's just stormed the cafe and are currently extracting the hostages. No word on the gunman just yet, but ABC's reporting a few injuries to the hostages. They did identify him though, and he sounds like a real nutjob too: multiple assault and sexual assault charges against him, self-styled sheik who's been ostracised and denounced by the wider Islamic community for spouting extremist views, sent offensive letters to the families of dead ADF personnel, was on bail for being an accessory to the murder of his ex-wife, etc, the list goes on. Police will most likely make a statement soon...

Yeah, that was their intended role, but the Singaporeans used to rotate their QRA duties (still do, actually), between squadrons and their A-4SUs performed these duties right up to the time the F-15SGs became operational. -

AA-8 problem
SayethWhaaaa replied to bigpig98's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Sounds like you don't have the '2IR' entry under the 'AllowedWeaponClass=' entry. Open up the Mig-21bis_Data.ini and have a butchers at the LeftWingStation/RightWingStation entries (they might show up as 'InnerLeftWingStation' or some variation of that. It should look something like this (this is my entry for my Mig-21-93, but it's identical where it counts): [LeftWingStation1] SystemType=WEAPON_STATION StationID=3 StationGroupID=2 StationType=EXTERNAL AttachmentPosition=-2.01,-1.26,-0.38 AttachmentAngles=0.0,0.0,0.0 LoadLimit=1000.0 <<-------- Make sure the allowable weight is enough for 2 Aphids and the dual IR rack. Just pump this value up a bit. 1000 is more than enough for 2x Aphids. AllowedWeaponClass=AHM,IRM,2IR,SAHM,BOMB,LGB,EOGB,EOGR,LGR,RP,TER,FT <<-------- Make sure the entry 2IR is in here somewhere AttachmentType=SOVIET, ModelNodeName=WingPylon_L PylonMass=60 PylonDragArea=0.02 LaunchRailNodeName=MissileRail_L LaunchRailHeight=0.10 LaunchRailMass=25 Try that and see how you go. Let us know if it doesn't. If it doesn't, just copy and paste the entry for your left/right wing stations you're trying to mod and we can figure it out from there. -
Are there any Yanks on this site?? AAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! *ahem* I mean yes. There are a couple.
