Drag chutes....and flares,a question on these.
SayethWhaaaa replied to Dagger's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
In theory, they're supposed to control an animated function such as cockpit, wing folding, aressting gear, bombay etc... aren't they? It's not incorporated into the game though... is it? Sorry, I was trying to help -
"Its a transformer..." Favourite moment!

"...and that's why when your teacher tells you to keep your hands inside the bus, you keep your hands inside the bus."

She did this after crying out: "Marine wussies!" after their bus drove by...

Can someone explain to me...?
SayethWhaaaa replied to SayethWhaaaa's topic in Military and General Aviation
Here's the term in context. I was browsing the Ace Combat X entry in wiki when I came across the following passage: The game is only semi-realistic in the sense that the abilities of the airplanes are greatly exaggerated. Some of the most noticeable characteristics are: -Some airplanes can carry up to 98 missiles -The afterburner has no limit in usage -A weapon known as the Tactical Laser System is employed as the ADF-01 Falken's primary weapon. -The pilot does not seem to be affected by high-G manouveres, even in non-COFFIN aircraft. -
can we create a multi-player mission variety of load outs?

...or flying CAS with certain aircraft, you'll only be packing LAU-10s, never the LAU-61s! What a jip! -
AEW
SayethWhaaaa replied to Hawk MMS's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Unfortunatley, only the ECM and radar search/track options emulate the real thing. ALthough, they're not quite spot on either. The game engine can't handle a lot of the operations of AEW/AWACS just yet... -
"That's funny, she doesn't look Druish..." and "That's my chastidy alarm. It's designed to go off before you do!" I love this movie!!

I'm a big fan of alternate histories when it comes to books, and I came across a series of books (Very "A Final Countdown"-esque) early last year called the Axis of time trilogy by an absolute dude of an author called John Birmingham. Long story short, it's about a UN mutlinational taskforce operating off of the coast of Indonesia after a fundamentalist coup takes place. The multinational force is prepping to begin operations to retake the Indonesian archipelego when a scientific research ship being escorted away from the AO accidentally transports the majority of the battlegroup back in time to 1942, and in amongst the US task force about to confront IJN forces at what would be the Battle of Midway. Anyone else come across this series???

There's a great reference to that in book 1 when they're explaining alternate universe theory to Nimitz and the other naval staff... Plus lot of Australian references and in joke. The man likes to take the piss, what can I say?

I've been making a few "Settling accounts" style skins for WWII aircraft because I was a big fan of that storyline until it just became a retelling of WWII. I just couldn't decide on what aircraft to reskin aside from the B-17. I figure the confederates were using either the B-25 and/or B-26s or something akin to that but the Asskickers? I couldn't shake the image of Confederate Stukas diving in and Blowing crap out of US positions... but that's just me. As for AoT, I disagree. For me the weaker book was 2 since it had to bridge the introduction of the uptimers into the new environment, and 3 show just how much their technological influence had changed things in the space of what? A few years? German Mp44s with grenade launchers as well as AIF 30.03 AK-47s, it was the little things that would grab my attention... Also, I think why the 3rd is critisied a bit is that Birmo reduced the number of characters with each book, not necessarily killing them or whatever, just focusing on the main players as it were. He's currently in the middle of two new ones. One, pre Axis of Time with the characters from the first book, the second about a young hotshot RAF pilot in the 80's who goes by the name Richard branson...

Help!

No, drugs make you giggle like a silly school girl or make you hug strangers whilst wearing bright colours and reflective strips, make you profess your undying love for line dancing, give you the munchies and make you swear you'll never do them again when you realise all the crazy s**t you did last night. Or so I'm told (It's good to have raver friends to learn from and film for blackmail purposes ) A few news outlets are saying its copycat syndrome, I say it'll be natural selection if he tries something. I hear Californians don't take crap from anyone (like New Yorker's except without those gangster accents) and they wouldn't miss a weirdo with small man syndrome if someone committed an act of pre-emptive natural selection against him...

Help!
SayethWhaaaa replied to gerald14's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
For vehicles, terrains, aircraft? Which kind? -
Again, FE is more a sim-lite oriented game with more of a focus on action, aircraft, modding. This isn't to say that adding those extra elements of realism (collision detection with ground objects, crash physics, environmental effects etc) have been ignored. There are modders already working on some of these at least, but our modder base is kind of small and they usually multitask, making skins, models, terrains etc. Only TK really specialises on the game engine characteristics, after all it's his baby. But his work load would be pretty heavy since he patches and develops all the 3rdWire games.

I was a bigger fan of Armada than Armada II and a long time ago on a server far, far away, some prodigal nerds from a crew called Apoc Entertainment threw together one of the best mods for Armada I've ever seen! To the best of my knowledge, they made two mods: Empire and Federation Loosly based on SFB and set in the TMP era with the associated ships, sounds, tech etc. And with the old school Romulans and Gorn as playable races. and my fave Star Wars Vs Star Trek This was esentially the DS9 era based game with the Imperials and Rebels replacing the Romulans and Borg as playable races and a mean mofo of a Borg cube replacing the Orion/Ferrengi raiders. It was a Trek\StarWars nerd's wet dream of a game and almost impossible to defeat multiple AIs without other human support. And with the introduction of fighters, just an incredible all round mod! But like the Mayans... Apoc Ent just disappeared into thin air. And I haven't heard anything since. has anyone come across these gems??

They might have broken up, gone bankrupt (if indeed they were a business) or might have been in trouble with Paramount/activision for use of designs logos, they could have been shipped off to Iraq, swept away in floods... anything! I tried getting in contact with them for another reason a few years ago but my emails bounced even then. I was thinking about maybe posting the mod here on CA in the event there was any interest in it but I wanted to see if there would be any issuses with this. But other mod sites seem to be posting it on the web regardless. The very last thing I heard about them was they were in the process of making a SP addition to the game and they'd just announced they were intending to make an Armada II version of ST Vs SW but that's about when their site went down. I'll post some screenies next time I'm home with some end game scores just so you get an idea of how intense it can be.

Yeah, it's a bit weird isn't it that when a TMP era game branches out into the TNG/DS9 era, it's not as well recieved (look at the TNG spinoff of SFB or SFC3) but this is not the case with UU. From what I've seen so far, it's a slice of fried gold! (That's good ). I've worked hard these past ten years to reform myself from my Trekkie past, but after a quick go of UU at a mate's place, all that hard work has gone down the drain!! Just curious, it probably has no relevence to Legacy and I'm way out of the loop here, but EagleEye software made a simple yet ingenious ship editing tool (funnily enough called Shipedit) for the SFC series, I'm just wondering if there is an equivelant for Legacy?

Hellfire missile racks
SayethWhaaaa posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Have the hellfire missile racks actually been modelled for SFP? I think I'm doing something wrong if they have been. Just trying to add them to Cap's cobra without success (triple rack works fine, just doesn't look right at all.) -
Hellfire missile racks
SayethWhaaaa replied to SayethWhaaaa's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Aha! M299 was what i was looking for! Thankyou Thankyou! I've been wanting to see what a modernised Spad would look like armed with hellfires, but in the meantime I have a JASDF AH-1W that needs to be edited... Thanks for the help Raven, Flanker! I got bored at work and spent about 4 hours browsing the jane's site before I got a call from my mate in IT services warning me I was being tracked! Good stuff at jane's, always hard to tear myself away from there! -

SayethWhaaaa replied to SayethWhaaaa's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
What's the name of the rack? I mean what's the designation? ie, triple ejection rack is TER, multiple launch rack is either MLR or MER (can't quite remember at the mo). I'm gonna go hunt down the designates since the old list I have isn't too accurate. Cheers by the way, Ravenclaw :okay: -
Noice! The Gal-X is the one with the third nacelle and mean assed phaser cannon uner the saucer. That's a nice Excelsior. Any Nebula class ships?

I know comedy central produces both shows, but I thought Menstealia was a piss poor version of the Chappelle show... -
Got any Mirandas? Or the Galaxy-X?
