  1. It looks like a Stretched Mini Moke that's just rear-ended a bus! US Army won't be interested in it will they? I mean, it looks like it'll do WAY more than 1 mile per gallon Plus you can see out of it! No, this simply will not do...
  2. SU-27 US

Don't the USAF or DARPA or someone have 20 odd Mig-29s bought from Moldova simply to avoid having Iran or someone undesireable (in US terms) pump up their numbers of available airframes?
  3. Flanker, Flanker, Flanker....

But it was also a shock to western defence analysts because of the sudden advancement of the Mig-29 and Su-27 designs. These were designs that didn't just return thing to a state of parity, but temporarily surpassed western levels. Remember, Western agencies viewed Soviet R&D with a more than a little disdain and they viewed Soviet practices up until then as a game of catch up. I think it was a stark turning point of finally shedding that 50's style indoctrination of belittling one's opponents. It's a dangerous game and one that if played, is only a matter of time before you get screwed. I'm not too sure what to make of the Cope Thunder exercise (was it cope thunder? Can't remember). Was it simulated weapon systems too? I mean were the USAF Eagles whupped by the combination of Su-30 and Russian weapon systems, or was it more a focus on air combat manouvering? There are plently of people I work with who're openly disdainful of Russian AAMs, despite the performance capabilities of the R-73 and R-77, not to mention they never have anything remotely nice to say about the R-27 family. I'm just wondering if we're slipping back into our old ways here (in Oz). Also, there was talk that the performance of the Indian Flankers was maybe talked up a bit (maybe as a means to secure more funding for the F-22) or that USAF combatants didn't "try" as hard as they could have. I mean, personally, I don't buy that the US pilots throttled back a bit simply going on my experience in dealing with yanks in the past; Very professional and willing to show off their skills at the drop of a hat . Plus, given all the hype about the Flanker being an Eagle Killer, I'd figure that would be a loss of face no one was willing to risk. I'm just curious if anyone else picked up on this or what your thoughts are. (Disclaimer: Not trying to bait you US servicemen types, I have plenty of respect for you, your service records and your ability to put away the piss )
  4. No, I meant a dedicated game. You know like "Ace Combat: Suez" or "Wings Over Korea" or "Secret Weapons of the Falklands" or other hypothetical examples. Campaigns are all well and good (and the ones I've played here are pretty cool) but I meant games developed from the ground up.
  5. ...¿qué? Epsilon...? I can't remember if it was a Tucano or a Pilatus trainer (or both) at Capun's site. Either way, you'll have to contact him about getting access to his site. If you've downloaded one of his planes before, it'll have his email address there. He (and his crew) have been focusing or WWI era planes for a while, but he's got a great and varied collection there.
  6. The Tucano is still in development with MarcFighters, but I think he's sorting out some Flankers first. Nothing's been released as far as I know. This was the thread you saw them in, yeah? http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?showt...7628&st=100
  7. You know, I've never seen a Korean War Sim, or for that matter, a dedicated Falklands or Suez game. Admittedly, I know there's a KW campaign in the works and that they're all a bit niche, but despite the aerial revolution that began at the end of WW2, there were major revolutions taking place during Korea! The first Jet Vs Jet combat (en masse) the blunting of the sword that was the heavy bomber (I know they're still in use, duh, but they were so much part of contemporary strike doctrine at the time that they were considered a panacea). Not to mention the battle of the taiwan straights. WW2 era tactics meeting next generation technology (AAMS and so on). Personally, I'd even like to see even an campaign covering the Indian Vs Pakistani aerial tangles... Or for that matter, the Malayan communist insurgency of the 60's... As for game subject matter being overdone, I gotta say WW2 is top of my list...
  8. Actually, that's a really good point. Not a whole lot of sims do have those less thought of greats. Like, how many sims have an F-106, or the Viggen for example. This is part of the reason I dig this sim, there are tonnes of planes to cover most, if not all tastes. But despite the advancements of the leading edge aircraft and the inability of this engine to accomodate some associated technology (like thrust verctoring, like data linking, like stealth at the moment), it's still great to have these aircraft as options (and to be spoiled for choice) and the individuals involved, especially the likes of USAFMTL, Wpnssgt, Fubar et al, all make quality work due to either consumate professionalism or some kind of OC behavior No, seriously, the modders here produce "the sh*t!" And it's always worth the wait!
  9. Flanker, Flanker, Flanker....

Fair enough. One thing that I think was been distinctive of Russian aircraft though, is the cramped, ad-hoc style cockpit. Everything is just sort of crammed in there, where ever there is space.
  10. Flanker, Flanker, Flanker....

Who said the communists ever left? Ever noticed how the lions share of the filthy rich have inherited their wealth from family members who were once ranking party officials...? Besides, no questions asked 2nd tier weapons exports from a country strapped for cash that is only now recovering from the Soviet collapse is a legitimate business. And that's all it is really, just a modernisation of business practices and shedding some of that old party dogma. There won't be any empire building from Russia since everyone is too aware of what the consequences of that are. They will, however, fight tooth and nail to keep the influence they have over the former satellite states. There was talk about re-integrating Belorus into Russia... Also, FastCargo, the latest variants of Flanker have fully adjustable seats to 25 degrees. It's not quite as comfy as you viper jocks make out, but it's better than those seats built like an L... They're part of the glass cockpit upgrade and with each new production model.
  11. Something is tragically wrong

Twobob, let us know how you go. Any troubles, make a post here somewhere and we'll help you out. That goes for anyone, new or old. Don't be backward about coming forward. Until you have a play around with the settings, or try installing new aircraft, or terrain, or any other type of mods, it can seem a little daunting or annoying. But it's a good payoff once you know how to tweak this sim and can then tune it you your own tastes. I agree in that I'd like to see more happening on the ground too. Although I haven't seen the active battlefield in FE (I don't own it, not really a fan of WWI sims) I remember what it was like in Apache Vs Havoc and it was a total blast having a shootout somewhere, RTBing to re-arm/re-fuel and then having to play catch up with the armoured column you were supporting while they push forward. While I do like the current form of ground units, it is a little static which I think can kill replay. Also, what's the word on buildings? Is it possible to add building sat this size (maybe not this dense since it'll chew up the frame rates): One of the things I've always dug about the Ace Combat series was being able to fly breakneck speeds, head height whilst threading my ride through a city. Also, one element of the first Red Baron game I like was having an Ace challange you and you having the option of specifically suiting up or not. It could work well (in terms of immersion) for FE...
  12. Ya'll Take Care

Good luck dude! I don't mean for the surgery, that'll go great guns. I'm wishing you luck for cute sexy nurses... Take it easy RoboDave! Good luck nevertheless!
  13. When you said F/A-27, I was thinking... Something similar to its Ace 2 skin: I hear this can be augmented in Ace X...
  14. Kudos CA

He's like a man posessed, he's done a bang up job!
  15. Helo Hitting Building

But with shock absorbing panels, and the extra space to crumple, it's safer than a Volvo!
  16. St Nick isn't happy

K, I understand he's gonna find out who's naughty or nice, but I remember the days when, if you were naughty, all you got was a lump of coal, not a burst from a .50 cal...
  17. Helo Hitting Building

I like how you hear the pilot appologise shortly after they all come to Still, those birds are death traps, you'd never ever get me in one! If it's smaller than a LongRanger, then nuh-uh
  18. It should just be a case of simply deleting your main directory. eg If you installed it in "C:\ProgramFiles\Thirdwire\Strike Fighters, just uninstall it and then delete the Thirdwire folder and its contents. A better bet would be to install it to a different place (or a different drive if you have one) and see how it goes from there.
  19. If they're not there, just add these to the bottom of the weaponsdata.ini and make sure they're in sequence. eg, if your last weapon is "weaponsdata1213" then make sure your next entry is "weaponsdata1214" and so on. If the iranian weapons are already there, you'll just have double entries. So when you go to load up, there'll be two entries for the mk82, mk83 etc. By the way, I think WP means warsaw pact.
  20. Flanker, Flanker, Flanker....

For me, I still think the F-15 has a hint of the "Brute Force" era (Muscle jets like the Phantom, Mig-25 etc) from which it was born. The Flanker's just a little more asthetically pleasing to me in that it's design was charged with doing what the Eagle does, only better and it shows. Only problem is that this doesn't necessarily help with it's stealthiness. This is why I fell in love with the 37. Watch the sequence from at 1:03 I mean, as thrust vectoring becomes more widely available in modern fighters you'll see more aircraft doing this. Still, I'd never seen anyone throw a fighter around the sky like this... (Just ignore the crappy Sukhoi CG sales stuff)
  21. The final Capt. America?

Don't worry, not even death can keep ol' Cap down... I love my Zombies...
  22. WOV/WOE V's LOMAC

^^Totally. LOMAC is great is you want to be a faux pilot, the SFP series is great if you don't. I don't want to be a Su-33 pilot, nor do I want to have to learn how to fly it over a month (I get very little personal time these days compared to when I used to be a bum at Uni ). I just want to take one for a joyride, fling one off the Kuznetsov when playing LOMAC but since it's a pretty indepth sim, it's a little unforgiving if you don't want or aren't used to sims with a lot of realism. I agree, you shouldn't really compare the two, it'd be like comparing the Sims and Grand Theft Auto in terms of a "sim-life" style game. IMHO, I think that the SFP series fills that nice but sparse no-mans land between the realistic sim end of the spectrum, and the Ace combat end. If you have a system capable of running it, I'd say give LOMAC a go, it's a very nice sim, especially the mission builder although avoid any copies that require you to install that crap Starforce software as it can cause your system to FUBAR.
  23. Sorry, this won't help at all, but why waste your time with the F-104? (admittedly, the F-104S wasn't too bad, but only after practically redesigning the whole thing!)
  24. Gerald14 was kind enough to make a model, but after that... there's not a whole lot of info.
