Flanker, Flanker, Flanker....
SayethWhaaaa replied to Hawk MMS's topic in Military and General Aviation
Dude, you missed Malaysia in that list. I think why folks (like me) were excited about it was that having the Flanker represented finally having one of the two biggest kids on the block. Quite a lot of people are waiting for either the Flanker family and/or the F-22 to have their own showdown. I have to say, I'm a big fan of the airplane and believe it is (or can be) superior to most of the final generation of conventional US fighters, by that, I mean the later generation Flankers (Su-35/37, Su-30 etc). Having been developed and having it's maturation at a later stage has helped it immensely in becoming the future Eagle Killer, not to mention India and China acquiring huge numbers of them. I don't think you can rest your opinion of an aircraft's successes soley on it's combat performances simply because there are a lot of countries that aren't involved in armed conflicts to vett their new aircraft. I mean, if that were the case, the Mig-29 would be the engineering disaster of last century with it's combat record absolutely tanking. Also, ecconomically, this plane is much more feasable for some non-alligned countries since it's unit cost (Approx 38-41mil US for Su-27sk) and training & maintanace packages are much cheaper that US or European counterparts. (even though some russian aircraft can be monsters to maintain) And... there are some bloody annoying vocal Raptor fans out there, and this gives us a chance to shut them up, temporarily. One last thing: Don't forget, the US is also very willing to pull support for it's foreign military sales to place pressure political pressure on governments such as with Pakistan and the F-16A/Bs. I can't quite remember but I think it was over the nuclear testing in 99. Plus US contractors get pretty toey when their technology is sold or distributed to competitors in the industry and Russian ones are still pretty keen for funding and a larger slice of the international market since their industries were denied access for so long. -
You know we're in trouble as a race if people ever start killing in the name of Buddha! I think we should just agree to disagree about religion and blame it all on the fundamentalists, any and all of the fundamentalists! Coz lets face it, they don't put the fun into anything!! Abstain from this, worship that, fear the wraith of... etc. Where's the love? A fundamentalist will NEVER shout the first round! Anyways, off topic. Dave, a very nice lady i work with(with that sexy Irish accent too! ) hails from Gaoth Dobhair (used to be called Gweedore?). She game me a link that may explain some Irish history for you, if it helps. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OKBCCDOUS9U

More Flankers!
SayethWhaaaa replied to Marcfighter's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Not quite. The stock Su-27 has a pretty high alpha rating and simply yanking back at the right speed will give you something close to it. Only problem is you'll stall it and you'll need to recover. It's not too dissimilar to the way the J-35 does it... -
Anyone interested in Yukikaze aircraft?
SayethWhaaaa replied to Shin_kazama's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Sci-Fi/Anime/What If Forum
You gotta loooove that Sylth! The fighter that caught my eye was the FFR-31 Sylphide. That very first opening scene of EP 1 stuck with me the second I saw it. Propably my favoutite furball! What about the Japanese carrier aircraft from ep 3(?) The Eurofighter thingos? -
Screw you righties!! Us lefties will rule you all one day soon...

Something is tragically wrong
SayethWhaaaa replied to Twobob's topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2
Firstly, I have to ask this, you're played the SF series before, yeah? Is this based on installing it and playing straight away? Have you tried re-installing? Could just be a bad install or a bad patching. I had something similar after re-installing SFG a while ago. As for the rest: Visuals: Have you changed any of the settings in the options? Are you running high quality visuals or low? Have you customised any of the visual options under the \options\graphics tab? As for views, sounds like you're using the F5 chase view, this would explain why it resets to the tail position after a few seconds. Try the F6 freelook mode. Flight: Again, have you changed any of the options in the options\gameplay tab? The realism and elements of the flight model are scalable. If you're playing on easy, then it would seem pretty unrealistic, like the Atari sims... wait, did Atari make sims for the Jaguar?? Sortie: If you're getting bored flying from point to point, I'm guessing you're not using time compression or the "trip skip" functions. I don't recall what "trip skip" is called in the SF series, but for the other games, it's default is alt+N. This takes you from whereever you are, straight into action (so long as you're in flight and high enough). These options should be available in the controls customisation screen. Appologies if I sound condescending, I need a little more detail. I mean, if it's just a case of coming from pretty looking sims like Ace Combat to the SF series... well, there's nothing we can do about that... yet. -

aircraft carriers
SayethWhaaaa replied to vanhalen99's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Are you talking about Catapulting and trapping (landing)? Or do you mean installing the carriers and operating from them ingame? -
I love these! Yet another example of a design so good at what it does that a suitable replacement stull can't be found. Just like the Herc...

Abandoned Work In progress (AWIP)
SayethWhaaaa replied to nele's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
That's it! You're banned buddy Just kidding. Sucks about your ADSL situation, but we hope it sorts itself out for you soon! Your .ini work is some good stuff and I'm sure it'll get snapped up in a second! -
Umm... they make their own parts. They've done so for years. There's a huge aerospace factory park that was originally built by Bell pre-revolution that over the years has sort of become on of the cornerstones to Iran's military industiral base, plus they recieved all sorts of knowledge and support from the Soviets (at the time) and the PRC. I mean, they can't reproduce the whole aircraft + systems. But apparantly something like 80% can be reproduced or substituted with other parts. If they couldn't, they wouldn't have been without Tommies or Phantoms for more than a decade...

"What If.." goes round the bend....
SayethWhaaaa replied to Wrench's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Haha, wow dude, you're really showing your age there, huh? I think the last time someone uttered that was... what? 1975 maybe...? Wasn't that the sales pitch back '75? -
He's just like Ann Coulter, no matter how many times you run her down, she just keeps getting back up...

Fifth generation fighters

Don't forget that weight restrictions still apply so you may want to change the load limit entry. Looks like this: LoadLimit=2600 -

F-35A
SayethWhaaaa replied to serverandenforcer's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
We're predicting about 30 years at least for the Raptor here at ASPI, 40 for the Eurofighter... -
F-35A
SayethWhaaaa replied to serverandenforcer's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
I meant for the model Server's producing. F-35's gonna be the first modern aircraft built without a hud, but I'm intrigued as to how this can be integrated into the game. Because if it can... Think of all the HMD mods to existing aircraft that'll suddenly be in production! Hogwash! This statement's been given a lot of press in the media but it's unfounded. The UAV related technologies are evolving, as is the infrastructure necessary to to support it, but it'll remain in the realm of battlefield support for a long time yet! Plus, there are many characteristics, such as intuition, that can't be artifically reproduced. We'll see this century end with manned military aircraft , no question, but UAVs will be much more dominant than they currently are. -

Aircraft issues
SayethWhaaaa replied to Sgt.KAR98's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
All aircraft in SFs with a few exceptions can be used in all three games. Again, same thing applies to some aircraft from WoE. about 98% of all aircraft are interchangable. If its not, it should say so in the aircraft's read me. -

SayethWhaaaa replied to charlielima's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Wrench, are you looking at releasing any of those? I especially dig your EC-49. Is that a propper mod or just using the EC-130 rotodome? -
Mirage 2000 C/RDI
SayethWhaaaa replied to EmlD's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
EmlD, if you don't wanna make a Mirage 2000, why not have a go at a Mirage 2000D/N? -

Stealth Bomber / Fighter in WOV
SayethWhaaaa replied to charlielima's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Don't forget that bloody awesome Su-47! The prime reason why I'm learning 3dsm is to get that plane into SFP series! I was hoping someone would have beaten me to it by now though... -
I only came across this article the other day even though it happened a while ago and it blew me away, especially the photos! Did anyone see this or am I the only one to miss it?? : Here's the link: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml.../napache122.xml It's about some Ballsy poms going back on an ad hoc CSAR run to pick up their fallen comrade. All I'm saying is that I'd like to have mates like that after a night at the pub... *Mental Note* Not going to pick on ANY UK soldiers ever again... EVER! Think I owe a mate an appology for a bit of occasional ribbing...
