  1. F-35A

If you're gonna be knife fighting in a phonebooth, it won't be the pilot in the flanker worrying... So since this jalopy's gonna have no hud, what are your options for SFP? Is it possible to integrate the hud with the mouse freelook system?
  2. F-14B Bombcat

All the tomcats were in Ace Combat Zero, only Cipher never flew anything else save for the Eagle and the Morgan. Which is a shame because I liked the option of chosing your wing's aircraft.
  3. More Flankers!

Yeah, apparantly its a D&D thing. I don't play it but I know some guys who do (before you ask, yes they do get out. They're both married ) and they busted a gut at it. It goes something along the lines of when you're nerding it up and you're being attacked by, i dunno... those little frodo people or something, any one player can save on the next turn while everyone else continues. So the King nerdy moderator dude will say something like "Lord Dufus of geekville saves, everyone else takes damge." I just want to state for the regimental record that I don't like fantasy stuff like this and my g/f tried making watch the first film and I fell asleep because I was bored s***less! People are still like "You gotta watch it man, it's awesome!!" For the last time: NO... I... DON'T!!
  4. F-22

Something I personally think should have been planned for with the F-22 was the ammount of foreign interest in buying them. Several nations are currently seeking permission to acquire FMS permits for the Raptor, most notably Taiwan and Japan, but are almost certain to get rejected for various reasons. (There's talk here in Australia about it, but it's a total crock... Don't get me started ) I believe an export model with slightly different export systems and construction methods would still have been a vast improvement over current inventories but also allowing the US to retain sensitive technologies. This was done with the F-15 early on with its service (see Japan and Saudi Arabia) and I think this would have allowed foreign military sales to friendly nations while simultaneously allowing something closer to the original 738(?) production units to be build. This would have created an economy of scale resulting in cheaper parts, training, units and construction methods. This makes much more sense than producing aircraft on an "as needed" basis. But like I said, this is said with hindsight. I believe something vaguely similar to this is happening with JSF but it's not working out as either the rules seem to keep changing, or they're open to interpretation, hence developing partners getting screwed (Like Oz, Turkey, pick a European nation, also Israel was booted out completely at one stage). Either the terms drawn up during the Clinton administration were too broad or ambiguous, or the Bush administration is looking to change the rules again, I'm not too sure. That's me done, just let me wipe the rabid foam from my chin...
  5. F-22

Don't forget the disastrous British White Paper from 1954 ('56?) stating that manned aircraft were on the way out and missiles were the way of the future. This led to a whole host of project cancellations, most notably TSR2 and fleet carrier CVA1 (carriers were also thought to be far too vulnerable, and not particularly useful. ) Wow... how wrong do you have to be?(Canadians went through similar motions with a similar white paper. This formed most of the initiative to scrap the CF-105 Arrow) I do have to say though, it bugs me when people constantly compare the F-22 and the Su-37. Yeah, granted, they're two of the meanest kids on the block, but they both stem from different generations from which different design philosophies were employed. Also, their intended roles are far different. The F-22 is more of a strategic asset with its integrated technologies (sensors, AESA, datalinks -all next gen stuff) to create a wealth of situational knowledge not only for the pilots, but for all other assets employed in a particular area of operations. Changing operational strategy was reflected heavily in the approach to designing it where as this wasn't the case for the Super Flanker (or Terminator, I'm sticking with Super Flanker because Terminator sounds too wanky for me ) The design approach of the Su-37 was to make sure that the title of "World's most kickass air superiority fighter" would be retained within the Flanker family, but less emphasis was placed on situational awareness and information sharing. This continued on the Soviet philosophy of a lack of force multiplication, or quantity over quality. In combat, the Su-35 and 37 aren't able to share the ammounts of information that other 4th and 5th gen fighters can, such as Rafaele, Eurofighter and F-22 and so on and as a result are lagging behind these aircraft as only now are serious programs developed towards developing said capabilities. Although this gap is closing, the end result will be an aircraft, a very very capable aircraft mind you, using a lot of technology in either a bolt-on format or requiring sunstantial refitting (Look at the latest F-15K/SG variants). I don't think you'll see this with the Russian 5th gen fighters as the leassons should have been learned by then.
  6. More Flankers!

FAB were considering the Su-35 (along with Rafale and Eurofighter and the Mirage 2K) for 12-24 units, with an outside possibility of up to 60 units But with the recent acquisition of 12 second hand Mirage 2Ks and funds being somewhat scarce, it may not happen. If the FAB does eventually get flankers, personally, I reckon they'd pick up an Su-30 variant. But then again, I don't know a whole lot other than Flankers in FAB colours would look kickass! And Ghost, forget what i asked about the canards. I must have been looking at some old specs because where they're cranked is specifically where they'd need the lift for a carrier launch. I think I've still got the old specs :blush2:

I'm down, and I vote Lets me vent my latent nerdiness here...

Or K-Fed. Anything to do with K-fed. No matter how bummed out I get. If I've had my butt kicked at Hockey, a fight with my G/F, been my boss's punching bag for the day, whatever, I always turn to K-fed. Knowing I'm not him and that I can't sing to save my life YET am still a better rapper, that ALWAYS lifts my spirits
  9. Pub?

Actually you USAF types have been pretty good in the past. The bloody RAAF mechanics from Amberley didn't last week! They did a bloody runner! It's just not cricket I tell you... And I concede on the Guinness. It's a top drop, but then again, so is coopers...
  10. So what about the switchblade? Am I doing M2.1 true or is that just indicated?
  11. Pub?

Damned Air Force types, come in and drink all your beer and thenbugger off when its their round I've tried your American beer lads, and I have to say with complete objectivity that it's piss! Pee I tells ya! And I do have some beer credentials before you ask. I come from a country that's been making the weakest, watery beer known to mankind (Fosters) and who've been selling it to Mother England for decades now! Hehe, we've all been laughing about that one for a while now. Even now, makes me laugh till I cry
  12. Su-27-TVC

    Ooh... Nice...
  13. Somewhat disappointed

I had the same reaction to Vietcong 2 when it was released. Barely a few improvementsw over that previous game, a lot of qualities from the original missing in the sequel. Big problems with graphical processing, frame rates etc... I feel your pain It should be sorted out with the patch, I mean, it's not like its Battlefield 2...
  14. ya know you go to a Redneck Church if...

Do Southerners really exist? I just thought all these scary hick stories (I'm talking deliverance scary ) were a means of keeping us annoying tourist types outta the South where all the good food, hot women and rest of your cool stuff is. Last time I was in the US, never even spotted or spoke to a Southener... It wasn't for a lack of trying either!
  15. Has anyone thought about producing any of these variants of proposed Tomcats...? http://www.aerospaceweb.org/question/planes/q0132.shtml It's make some interesting mud-moving
  16. More Flankers!

So the naval LCA is being built afterall. When the contract for the Mig-29ks was announced, I was sure it was going to be the deathknell for the naval LCA. I'm glad I'm wrong! Though I do have one question for you Ghost. Since it's a cranked delta, won't the approach speed for carrier landings be reasonably high?
  17. There are a few mountains in my VirtualVietnam with scortched craters that'll attest to that...
  18. Multiplayer

Yeah, I've been talking individually to folks for a dust up but for me, it's just timing (and it doesn't help that I live all the way up here on the top of the world, in a different timezone, ruling you all with my iron fist! It gets time consuming :) Only other problem that it gets unstable sometime if everyone doesn't have EXACTLY the same install. ie, same aircraft, same sounds, same skins etc as opposed to other games when someone doesn't have something, it won't show up in the menus etc. I'd be interested in some MP action, moreso since the Flanker's been released and more that are impending because now I'll be able to get my furball on and give you some of this! :threaten: and some of this! then I'll hit you with some of this :black eye: Forget your shock & awe Flankers baby!! In all seriousness, I'd love some co-op but I hear, like most other games, it's pretty much been overlooked in this series. Is this true?
  19. Brittiny spears

My parents still maintain that I was spawned somewhere on the seventh layer of hell, maybe somewhere near Wisconsin. They may be on to something...
  20. 2006 Idiot awards!

Oh jesus... I've performed one of these On the subject of dopey bastards:
  21. Actually, there are something like 15 Su-35 in service with the VVS...
  22. It's not just Sweeds, it does have quite a low RCS but a large part of that is because it is a small aircraft (low RCS by default) and also because it uses a lot of composites in it's construction. Although I don't think it uses any radar absorbing materials (aside from the layer in the canopy, like in the F-16) ...but either way I digress. There's no effective difference in RCS in the SFP games at the moment because the last patch disabled it. (Apparantly this comes from TK) If I can find the post, I'll link it up here.
  23. More Flankers!

I tried but the main pylon was a bit too big for a triple rack. The lower bomb would slip into the runway itself. I'm currently using the twin bombracks and their clearance is fine... K, maybe not with the Mk82s, anything larger though might be a problem. These shots will give you an idea of the amount of room there is to play with:
  24. I use the same model. What kind of turn are you performing? Is it a level, bank away? A high speed bank up/down? Are you climbing, diving etc? What exactly are you doing when this happens?
