SF-1 Final Patch Battle of Britain
SayethWhaaaa replied to baffmeister's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Prop Heads Forum
I think quite a few aircraft have something like HasFireExtinguisher=True, depending on the specific type and era. I don't know how effective it is or if it works at all, but more often than not, I'm using cannon, not MGs, in a gunfight. Cannons are ruthlessly efficient in the TW series make armor somewhat redundant. If you're using MGs though, you might see extinguishers come into play more effectively, assuming of course that it's working. Have a look through the engine spec in the DATA.ini of different aircraft and you see if it has that capacity. I'm pretty sure more modern multi-engine aircraft, particularly transports will have these in their engine specs. -

Burst amount is just the number of rounds a gun turret fire in a single burst, it's not applicable to the pilot's guns. As for incendiary, to the best of my knowledge, incendiary isn't recognised unfortunately. Someone may have figured a work around though... maybe. -
SAAB Viggen Emergency Landing Video
SayethWhaaaa replied to JonathanRL's topic in Military and General Aviation
SPOILER ALERT Hang on, was this the film where later on, that pilot dives into water and smacks his skull becoming a paraplegic?? If so, I still shudder thinking about the sick crunch from when he hits his head on the rock... -

Anyways, don't you generally remove the wings of an aircraft when you transport it? Those models at the beginning, weren't they model/RC planes made by students for the "AVIC UAV Cup"? And that photo of the aircraft being transported looks a lot like an L-15 light attack/trainer too. -

Brazilian Air Force cracking windows
SayethWhaaaa replied to Silverbolt's topic in Military and General Aviation
Back in '85 when I was a wee munchkin, I got to witness a pair of Mirage IIIOFs do this and it's silence was what really made an impression on me the most. Being 5yrs old and not knowing how sound worked, to see all these people at the airshow covering their ears at the very fast, very silent dart threw me. Then the sound hit and I entered a world of pain. Poor pilots got into a tonne of trouble when the moment of transonic flight made it on the news and several glass houses on nearby farms were completely demolished during their flypast. -

If you take too long, the Canadian government is going to ask you to delete all traces of it... I thought this one was lost to the ether a long time ago. Good to see it's still around. -
In the first series, examples of limiters were: MaxSpeedSL=288.79 MachLimit=0.860 Also, engine thrust under the engine entries: SLThrustDry=76310.00 SLThrustWet=129000.00 <<--AB ...also limited the max thrust. By increasing your machlimit number and engine thrust entry (adding an extra 50-100% for example) would result in some pretty tangible increases in speed. One thing I'm not 100% on is these entries: StallSpeed=77.41 CruiseSpeed=257.9 ClimbSpeed=260.60 CornerSpeed=250.2 MaxSpeedSL=410 ...I think were measured in newtons or by some other unit of measurement. I'm sure it wasn't Kph/Mph/Kts and I'm pretty sure this hasn't changed for Gen 2. If I'm wrong, please correct me.

Russian Huey what-if?
SayethWhaaaa replied to dsawan's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Sci-Fi/Anime/What If Forum
No my friend, this is a beast. I know that because it's real, it technically doesn't count. Interesting thing about that Puma was that it was one of the very same Pumas from Red Dawn, sans the glasshouse. It was originally planned to fly it with attached fake glass cockpit, but the required performances in the movie exceeded it's safe flight parameters. Which is why you don't see the Hinds in Red Dawn really exert themselves. -

Mitsubishi F-2 update?
SayethWhaaaa replied to WhiteBoySamurai's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
I thought the problem with the original was that the 3dsm files were lost in a HD crash several years ago. It'd be nice to see an updated one, it's easily the best looking of all the Vipers. -
Enemy AI fuel consumption

Yeah, enemy AI don't run out of fuel. Wingmen can, I've had some drop out of the sky from time to time. -

Time to make yourself pretty, Widow. We're gonna want to see this on the youtubez too you realise... -
By about 20 minutes in, her naivety was grating on me and I wanted her to join some of the other characters... in hell! Great film though!

Better acting!! For the love of all that is holy, hire some f$%&ing writers that know how to write dialogue for someone older than 18 AND hire some actors who know how to act!!! I don't care how visually wonderful or how compelling the gameplay supposedly is, if the dialogue is cheesy, badly written tripe, it kills what's left of the immersion. I can't play a console game these days for that reason, hammy, crappy... just woeful acting! If you're spending tens of millions on producing a product, DON'T SKIMP OUT ON DIALOGUE. Goddamn Deux Ex and Modern Warfare made me want to throw a brick at my screen! I haven't played the new Ghost Recon yet, but I'd bet a nut that the acting will suck. The General from GRAW 1&2 was WAY OTT and just about every action shooter is as well these days. Case in point: We deserve better than this. This^^ is just... insulting. ...now excuse me, I need to have a little lie down after that vent.

INS Vikramaditya starts sea trials
SayethWhaaaa replied to ghostrider883's topic in Military and General Aviation
I think the sad part is how the ink on the sales/refurbishment contract was signed, then the Russian government decided to renegotiate the price. India got d*cked on that one. I'd be interested to see if the Mig-29s are wholly built new and not using components or extensively modified 'old' airframes. It's a shame, they make some fine military platforms in Russia but some of their companies try thug it out and make their money hand over fist. -
Royal Navy and Royal Airforce
SayethWhaaaa replied to MAKO69's topic in Military and General Aviation
Unfortunately, obscenely expensive stealthy platforms are the must have items that, economic crisis or not, air forces are selling their souls to purchase right now. For the prices AFs are paying for capable stealth platforms these days, the stealth should work like Romulan cloaking devices.
