Our Navy briefly looked at these too, but we went with a Spanish design from Navantia.

Additional outer pylong on each wing of the F-104G?
SayethWhaaaa replied to ace888's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
No no, you don't have to mod the skin too. If you create an additional pylon, it will be there on the wing, it will just be invisible. As far as I know, you would have to add pylons to the aircraft package (similarly to the various canards mods with existing aircraft) to be able to see them. With the canards mods, you would then need an additional texture to be linked to them so you can actually see them and this would apply to any pylons you would add too. I thought the F-104S-ASA-M mod was made using the F-104G as a template. If that is so, then the skins should work fine with it. In theory... -
I saw a bit of the fly past on the ABC news here, a week ago or so. Very nice!

F1 WIP
SayethWhaaaa replied to Veltro2k's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
You'd be better off with the Jaguar, wouldn't you? One question though, does the F1 have wingtip rails? I've seen them in games with rails before, but I don't recall ever having seen them with IRM wingtip rails in photos. -
And so...? How is it...??

Sound issues
SayethWhaaaa replied to SayethWhaaaa's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
lol, sorry, didn't see you guys post on here. They should be in the mono format, since they worked previously. I discovered that the hard way trying to make new helicopter sounds. It's just odd that a folder change seems to affect them. I've done it several times before and it's worked. I'm thinking maybe just to start from scratch, but that means spending a sh*tload of time replacing every single item. Yay. The only thing I can think of is that it was copied from my baseline WOV install, ie, one that's been around for about 3 years. Still works perfectly though... -
What if....
SayethWhaaaa replied to ace888's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
I love what ifs... Ace you might dig this. There are close to 2500 images in this dude's album, so it may take a while to load but there are some pretty awesome ideas for 'what if' skins. I know there are several there that have inspired some very late night skinning work from me. I really dig some of the schemes in here, especially the Sea Harriers... -
Anyone know where I can get a non-Australian version (and non-German version too!!) of the game with the blood and mild gore that is perfectly appropriate for the first game but completely unacceptable for this one?? I was thinking of downloading directly from Steam but I gotta feeling I'm only gonna get the dodgy version anyways if I do that. Been playing the demo and I'm really loving the Cajun style music and ambiance. It's fantastic. The Chrome shotgun, the AK-47 and the pistols have a nice, crisp feel to them too. The various boomers and hunters are a nice touch too... from what I can see of them before disappear after being killed...

Go you glorious Kiwi bastards!! Good stuff!!

The 47 with the picatinny rails, ACOG scopes and the other trimmings. Haven't seen the 74SU yet. Good to see the ACOG scope is much easier to use. The ones in 4 made the weapons almost impossible to aim for me. Aiming down the barrel made it look like I had parkinson's in multi.
-
I like that they've included a complete shirtload of new weapons and addons. I'm really digging the modernised AK and the FN FAL.

Yeah... this getting my arse shot off every time I break cover to take a shot is getting to be a pain in the arse. I mean, if only there was some way I could keep most of myself covered, but only expose a enough of me to take the shot... Hmmmmmm. Like some kind of lean... ...nah, that's just crazy talk.

Every time I've flown in an aircraft, the number one rule the pilots have always told me to follow was "Don't touch nuthin'". Seems like this guy may have broken that rule... http://www.news.com.au/travel/story/0,28318,26292521-5014090,00.html

F-16 BVR problem
SayethWhaaaa replied to Vambrace's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I'm having this same problem at the moment too with a mod I'm tinkering with. Same thing, the AI aircraft will engage with IRMs and guns (even if the aircraft is not equipped with guns) only. I believe it has something to do with the AI detection range, which is problematic if it is, as you're going to have to alter each aircraft's detction range in accordance with how you want the AI to react to it. I usually double or triple the entry (depending on the type I was altering) and that usually made it much easier for the AI to detect/track/engage aircraft at distance. Bearing in mind, the lower the entry, the harder it is to detect the aircraft. ie, lower the number, the stealthier it is. Assuming detection is the problem your AI is having... -
Jesus... what a complete cock up! A direct console port with barely a few necessities for PC play and sweet f**k all for modding amd community play... And did I read right? There's no leaning?? WTF?? Sorry, I may seem slow, but exactly what, in all of this, actually improves on COD 4? I'm getting two distinct vibes here: It's as though IW have let the success of the last game go to their heads, and that it gives me the impression of a kid who's left a school assignment to the last minute and has cut corners and rushed it to get it in.

Makes sense in a bit of a GTA IV kinda way. Even with a completely pimped system, Saint's 2 and GTA IV will run like a dog on PC, so sales won't be as high as the console versions. It makes sense that they could get away with not having a cutting edge, state of the art engine when they'll still get huge sales from the brand alone, maximising their sales to cash-strapped kiddies and their struggling, dated hardware. And COD 4 isn't that dated anyways (yeah, I know it's 2 years old dude! ), I mean it doesn't look as dated as GTA III does to IV... or even SA for that matter. Left 4 Dead was (again, allegedly) produced to run as favourably as possible in regards to older systems.

Alright... if you're in that thing and someone has to take a dump, does it stink out the fight deck or does the breathing apparatus circumvent this? What is the etiquette re newspapers? What if they're really noisy? If someone has to go who's a lower rank than you, do you guys dip your wingtips a few times to make it hard for them to stay seated? I had more questions about this from when I was a kid... but you can see where it's going. See, I've never see a photo, I only saw it in cutaway drawings. And it's been bugging me.

I hate it when people pick you up for the tiniest little thing, or act like a 20 year vet when you're prolly with a 20 year armchair expert. (I'm sure I know jack sh*t about most things anyways. ) Like so: "Hey, check out at that Hornet." "You mean that Super Hornet?" Or when they ask a question in a such a way as to call you an idiot without actually saying so. I remeber hearing Clancy do something like that during the Sum of All Fears commentary late in the movie when some F-16s dropping some guided bombs and he said something like "I didn't know they could do that." K, we know you know damn well what those planes can do from the 500 books you've written. Don't be a d*ck about it. Thing is, I'm sure I've done that to people when I was a super plane geek when I was a kid. Christ I hope I haven't done it recently... or ever... That said, I've always wanted to ask someone about those chemical toilets in those B-1s that's been bugging me for years, but I don't wanna ask you FC for sounding like somekind of wannbe now...

Didn't they keep the specs low for a reason with the first one too? Something about making it easy for people with lower spec machines to run it. Makes sense. The bottom line is about getting the bestest to the mostest these days. If they produced a game that requires a totally pimp machine, a significant number of sales could be lost. Hey Acid, you have any info on weapons used in the game? I've seen a bunch from a few youtube videos, and there seems to be a mostly ultra new feel about them, to me at least. I'm kinda hoping they don't. I like my M-4s, AK-74s, MP-5s, M-14/21s (especially with the SOPMOD). I wanna see them come back!

Very Very Sad News
SayethWhaaaa replied to Dave's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Wow... so sudden. Happy trails Bpao. Best wishes to you and your family. You'll definitely be missed. So sad... -
I lock my keys in my car on a regular basis unless I have them chained to my pants on one of those little punk chains. I amaze myself as to how often I do it. Also, in the current Suzuki Swift, there's a small square cup holder kinda thing between the seats and behind the handbrake where things, phones, keys, PSPs etc simple vanish for days for me. I lost a phone for a week and it was sitting in that, the devil's little bastard holder thingo, for something like five days. If my gf finds out about it, I'll never live it down.

Man... the East coast of Australia always has the fun events! Gallery here: The dust storm was so immense in scale, it could be seen from orbit! And today, it was a fine and sunny day there. It was truly bizarre. The weather went like this: Monday: Fine and sunny. Tuesday: Fine and sunny. Wednesday: Massive red nebula descends, freaking out some rather "special" people into thinking it was Armageddon. Thursday: Fine and sunny, a little layer of dust on everything.
