Indian Air Force to participate in Exercise Red Flag
SayethWhaaaa replied to ghostrider883's topic in Military and General Aviation
To the best of my knowledge, I thought the invitation to India was precisely for that purpose Ghost said, of inter-operability between IAF and USAF commands. Besides, turnabout's fair play. The US wouldn't want information about the F-22's systems leaking to any competing nations. And given that Pakistani military has shown that it will take advantage of any (perceived) advantage, keeping said information from the allies of a national enemy is a prudent measure for India. Besides, given the right conditions, Pakistan could easily become Iran: 1979 Mk.2, except with sharper teeth... -
Problem with WOI weapon Editor
SayethWhaaaa replied to SkyStrike's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
I definitely think there MS 2K7 is the cause of the problem. I only installed that a little over a week ago and that's when the issues began. I still have MS Office 2K7 installed and I have managed to get the weapons editors to work using the console/MS-DOS method, however, after getting it to work, it has somehow destroyed the in-game weapons list for both WOE and WOI (prolly SFG too, but I'm too scared to look!). -
Ummm... this article is three and a half years old. They do realise that Dimitriy Medvedev is President now and Vladamir Putin is the PM, yeah...? Seriously though, I wouldn't rely on Debkafile for reliable information as they have had their credibility question a few times for resembling a blog more often and only catering to (and relying on sources from) news stories that appeal to the far right conservative elements in the US. Just like I wouldn't rely on the Jerusalem Post and their story around this time last year that the IRIAF had penned a deal for 200-250 Su-30s from Russia.

I'm with you FlyGrrl! What shat me about the Sci Fi genre was the general inability to break out of the formulaic thinking behind series development (ie a new story each week) that had been started waaaaay back with the TOS of Star Trek (although it was new at the time). Rarely anyone would try anything new which is why Star Trek went downhill fast IMO as there was almost no originality or fresh themes after the next gen. JMS used an evolving storyline that allowed you to get suckered in without realising it. And it also helped that they didn't suffer from the crappy clichéd dialogue and behaviour of its characters like in the later series of Trek. At least SG1 didn't suffer from that a whole lot!

Weapon Editor troubles
SayethWhaaaa posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Hey, just come across a problem with my weapons editor. Somehow I've killed my Weapons Editors both for WOI and the Non WOI games. For some reason, the program works like normal when I change the compatibility to Win98, but when the second I click on the "open" button, it closes down. Has anyone come across this? I've looked in the KB, but all of those solutions work fine... Anyone come across this? -
That's gotta be the second most genius thing I've ever heard in my life. The first was the concept behind the show "Fitness Corner". I still can't believe they got away with that...

You can't be serious! With Iran? You mean the Iran-that's-situated-between-Iraq-and-Afghanistan Iran? No one allies with Iran. In global politics, their friendship is a political cancer. Even Indonesians, the largest (conservative?)Muslim state on the planet find Iran to be too extremist. The Russians have to wade through mountains of paperwork just to send them non combat military goods, so it's much easier for Iran to go through China, as they are right now. And when they become a liability for the PRC, they (the PRC) will cut their ties immediately. Possibly when their oil runs out maybe... so it may be a while yet. I still think the bigger threat is a fundamentalist Pakistan, after all, they're already nuclear armed, and the assurances about the safety of said nuclear material isn't worth the paper it's written on.

Yeah? Is he for real or is it just BS posturing? I have to admit, when I heard Kashmir in the news earlier this week, the first thing I thought was "What's the Pakistan army done now." It didn't take 'em long...

Weaponseditor problems
SayethWhaaaa replied to Stratos's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Hmmmm... I'm trying this Winzip method and I'm having exactly the same problem... Not happy Jan! Especially since adding the Mirage 2000-5 has somehow wiped all my weapons from WoE. I think I'm gonna have to hit this from another angle... -
Weapon Editor troubles

Cheers Kuk! Just having a look at it now. The odd thing is that the WOI one was working yesterday and now neither do. I'm thinking the Windows SP is probably the cause... -
I'm hoping Nawaz Sharif has no role to play. If he's re-elected, Pakistan's right back where it started with a corrupt leaders and a "jobs for the boys" mentality.

Big problem!
SayethWhaaaa replied to gumpy's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Hmmm... I'm having the same problem with a few others, but not the TW series. Getting the Nvidia drivers doesn't solve the problem in my experience. I think it's an inherent Nvidia issue. I'll have a look around for you too. -
SU-35
SayethWhaaaa replied to eagleyang's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Wasn't it one of the Victims of Marcelo's great HD crash a while ago? I thought he was doing one along with the other variants. I could be wrong though. -
HERE'S something interesting that happened overnight. Hope she has a speedy recovery. To continue reporting was pretty courageous!

Does Anyone Mind LONG Distances In This Sim?
SayethWhaaaa replied to a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mission/Campaign Building Discussion
That's not taking into account CAS crews operating close to front lines to minimise turnaround time. Personally, I don't mind the distances involved unless I'm using a helicopter and the AO is 1000kms away. Then I get annoyed! -
If we had the Civilization series back in the forties, I could think of about 50 million people who might have had a second chance at life...

I wasn't talking about Iraq dude, I was thinking more along the lines of places like Grenada, Kosovo and Nicaragua being okay to intervene, but Rwanda and Sudan for example being untouchable. Besides, there are more parallels with Kosovo in the case of S-Ossetia and I can't see what the difference is really? But then again, I've been stuck out in the field for the past three days so I haven't been able to look it up. I definitely think there is a something different about the US media reports and the non US ones. We've been listening to Deutsche Welle, Radio Netherlands, ABC (Oz, not US), NPR, BBC World Service and Sky News. Just about all outlets covered the events from a relatively balanced viewpoint, speaking about what had been happening, what exactly the significant players have been saying, basically reporting as it happens. But only the US media reports seemed to all be distinctly negative towards Russia, talking about their disproportionate response, how Russia was trying to show the west how they are perceived to be weak, and generally stating how Russia is the aggressor in this situation. Now what I expect a certain level of spin from US media outlets (especially when it comes to the Presidential campaign!), I was surprised to hear how things were so spun out of shape or omitted completely; either accidentally or otherwise, I'm not a conspiracy theorist nutjob, so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. Things like the President Sarkozy was going in and "demanding a cease fire" on NPR, however, on BBC, DW and ABC here, he was "meeting the parties to formulate a cease fire." On BBC about how President Saakashvili was advised by US officials in the previous weeks about not doing anything to provoke the Russians into acting against the Georgians, yet nothing about this on US outlets. Something like 2 or 3 rockets (artillery) hit the town of Gori and there was speculation from the report in the morning (around 7:30am my time) all through to the arvo, yet only NPR confirmed these as a Russian attack, and that was about 10am my time. Where are they getting their reports from and how come no one else reported anything about this until about five hours later? And then there were little things like Meeechelle Norris on NPR talking to analysts and constantly referring to PM Vladamir Putin's response, despite Dmitry Medvedev being the president of Russia! I mean, speculate all you want about Putin being the power behind the throne in the Kremlin NPR, but you can't report it as fact... Is this just a left over from the Cold war? I mean, the US was the target of a nation for 50 years in a tense, ideological struggle, I can understand how these attitudes develop, but this quite a chasm of difference about the same story.
-
I do have to say, it's bloody ironic listening to the US administration condeming Russia's actions as "attempting to orchistrate a regime change in Georgia." I mean, that took big brass ones, IMHO. It's interesting listening to what's the Georgians and Russians are saying, respectively. I think the only statements I've heard that I think that are lacking in spin the most are the statements I'm hearing on the BBC from Georgian and S-Ossetian refugees.

Cold War Crisis has been released!
SayethWhaaaa replied to SayethWhaaaa's topic in Strategy Simulations
Did the easy AI kick your a$$ when you first played it?? One of the things I like about this is that you're really under the gun from word go, but I still haven't figured out to use the Soviets. They kinda get short changed on defences. Their bunkers have too short a vision field so tanks come in and nail them without fear of respite... -
Vietnam's been done, look at the excellent (now very old) Vietcong for that. What about the Korean War. I think I've seen a whole 2 (count 'em) Korean War games! Yeah, Treyarch only seem to do WWII versions of CoD. If IW went back to making WW2 versions, I'd be disappointed.

Su-27 Family WIP
SayethWhaaaa replied to Erwin_Hans's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
The SM has a new FCS, newer flt-by-wire, newer multimode digital computer, full glass cockpit using colour, not monochrome displays, it's supposed to be using the Lyulka AL-35F engines, but I'm not 100% on that as I've heard that they initially were supposed to be engined with the AL-31FPs that the Su-30s use. It's supposed to be using the Phazotron N010 Zhuk-27 radar as well, but the VVS is keen on upgrading most Su-27s to use the passive electronic scanned arrays (depending on availability of funding). A lot of the systems used in the Su-27SM upgrade were more recent variants systems tested in the Su-35, but because of the scarcity of funding and the staggered implementation of upgrades (and new technology), it's hard to tell. Plus there's an Su-27SKM (SMK?) that uses a few different systems again... -

He was taking the p*ss. They were terrified that anyone was going to leak details of the freakin' BORING opening at the 2000 Olympics that dug up every damned Aussie cliché and stereotype this side short of Croc Dundee. Their measures were pretty draconian. I'm really surprised that BOCOG's was leaked. If anyone was busted attempting to leak it, they would have been jailed (Gaoled? ) for sure! The Chinese police don't mess around!
