something realy weird
SayethWhaaaa replied to ronan's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I still find it freakin' dificult to take on a B-35/49 in a knife fight! Even a flying tank like an Il-2 or an A-10 looks like a crumpet in the end... -
Nah, it was based on the Wirraway trainer, itself, a development of the NA-16 trainer used in the US at the time. It was only considered a stopgap until some P-51s or Spitfires could be acquired. This one though was designed during the war to be an advanced type ready for service in the event P-51s/Spitfires were unavailable for Intercept/Escort duties. When Lawrence Whackett, head of CAC at the time, suggested license building Mustangs instead of bearing the costs associated with developing a new fighter, it was put on the back burner. Initially when it flew in 46, it was superior to all other single engine props in service as well as most early jet figthers, but it was figured that the development of superior jet aircraft would eclipse prop driven aircraft in only a few years, so it was decided to go with the trend of acquiring jets instead. It's a bit of a shame as it would have been slightly inferior in performance to something like the Skyraider. I think it's fastest recorded speed was roughly 800kph at East Sale(?) AFB. Also, it was one of the last military aircraft developed in Oz. I think most everything else has been built under license. Although the CA.27 Sabre was close, it was still mostly a US aircraft.

Aussie $ is roughly around 93-95c US. So yeah, it's a bit of a rip off. 62 degree ice... is that fahrenheit. Wait, no... because 35*C is about 100*fahrenheit. I'm all confused...

http://www.news.com.au/story/0,23599,23933866-38198,00.html They're just a bunch of brats that are in need a good pistol whipping, IMHO. Can't discern between fiction and reality my azz!

I'd have to second that a bit. When I used to work in Libraries, lots of parents would use us as a makeshift childcare centre. One mother in particular dropped her kids off to go shopping one night and didn't pick them up until almost 10. (we closed at 7!) And Ironroad, I'm gen Y and I'm not a complete douche... It's your fault! :tounge: jk I personally love the response from 9:38am today: "I totally agree with the Cops. I was at a club and these 2 italian plumbers started jumping on peoples heads."

Saw the other day, got a bit of a kick out of it, particularly his glow stick dance at 2:19 Does anyone know when this was held exactly?

A question about FE/Balloons
SayethWhaaaa posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
I don't own FE, not really a fan of WWI sims anymore and I really can't get into them. But what I'm curious about is how the ballons are set up in FE. Are these stationary airborne targets or do they move at a VERY slow pace? I'm guessing they have no stall speed and so on. I'm looking to try something in WOI when I get my puter fixed and am curious to see if their flight characteristics can be duplicated in game or if it's engine specific. -
Heh, That'd be a blast. But only if the criminals spout cool one-liners like "Sub Zero is now PLAIN Zero."

A question about FE/Balloons
SayethWhaaaa replied to SayethWhaaaa's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Crap. That might pose a problem then... When I'm back up and running, I'll give your ASATs a look in FC. The reason or all the questions was that I've been playing with door gunners on my helos and I though that maybe, just maybe, I could introduce some small, possibly invisible aerial targets the gunners could shoot at to give the cheaty impression that they were firing at targets on the ground. I was on my way to testing this when my video card blew... even then, I had a few issues with the airborne targets and though balloons might be the way to go. -

Cheers Spec. So they are definitely airborne and definitely stationary... Good. And they're classified as an aircraft, not a Ground object? I know it sounds like a silly question... -
Again, I mean no disrespect, but I have to disagree with a couple of points, Col5 and FC, specifically the taking into account of pregnancies resulting from rape, health adverse and problematic pregnancies, etc, but I won't bring that up here considering the chasm of difference between how that topic is handled in your county and how it's handled in mine. ...And, you know, I don't want to offened either of you because I have a wonderful ability of putting my foot in my mouth. And you're very right about taking responsibility FC, we've got a case taking place here in my state right now where a little responsibility could have gone a long way. (here That's exactly the problem we (in Aust.) had with our last man executed in 1967. The ball was dropped by many people in the state government and the legal system and Ronald Ryan just happened to be the guy who had to wear it. (although his escape didn't help his cause.)

You know, I could take that statement, reverse the players, and it would still be just as unanswerable. Like, how is it many right to lifers (for example) can be so pro-life in regards to a child, but so pro-death when it comes to criminals? Sorry, didn't mean to pick on your FC, but it's a bastard of a question (both are). I think the big problem is the assumption that humans are meant to be treated with a certain level of dignity and respect, irrespective of their crimes. As though our behaviour towards them reflects our own civility. What a crock, and a huge generalisation, might I add! Personally, I believe if you commit a grievous crime like this sick bastard, you've forfeited your right to your humanity and should be treated as such. The problem with something like that is that some places may choose minor, politically motivated things to outlaw. Especially if the church gets in their ear... The only plus to come out of this is that he'll be around for a while to be on the receiving end of quite a few beatings...

So far, it doesn't happen to have any catapult attachment for the nose gear, but with China still umming and ahhhing about whether or not to go down the steam catapult route with their carrier program, we may still see a Flanker that can be shot off the end of a carrier yet. Plus there's about 3 different planned naval variants being examined for the potential export market that haven't reached production. Let keep this one on subject away from pissy, F-22 BS arguments. It's an interesting concept...

Nato hasn't been 'just' a counter to the Warsaw Pact for almost 20 years. It's purpose has evolved beyond grouping member countries under an organisational umbrella to counter any mass eastern bloc assault. Humanitarian operations, enforcement of EU policy, logistical support and so on are some of it's prime functions these days, not to mention interoperability programs and familiarisation/modernisation for newer members. So in that context, and I mean no disrespect to the lovely French peoples, this is why it really won't matter a whole lot since the other nations take care of this anyways. The French will always do what they are going to do, love them or hate hem for that, it's just their way. On one hand, it makes sense to rejoin since adding their resources would certainly benefit the whole, but not if it includes the French bureaucracy that has been a total pain in the arse in the past. It'd be good to seem them rejoin, but at the same time, it's had to work well without them for 42 years, so they'll cope.

Jesus! Me neither... Wow, that sucks...

Damn... I gotta stop in Ohio next time I'm in the US. I didn't realise there's a C-133 there too!

What aircraft you miss in game?
SayethWhaaaa replied to vrkuboy's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Come on dude, it's been established a bunch of times in a bunch of different publications that the J-10 is not a Lavi clone. It is (or will be) a very capable fighter. The Lavi was was essentially just an earlier block F-16. The F-16 evolved far beyond what was perceived for the Lavi and has proved a much wiser choice IMO. I mean those Soufas and UAE Block 60s look badass! But hey, I'll agree to disagree. That little rant notwithstanding, on the subject of PLAAF aircraft, I wouldn't mind seeing a version of that Tu-4 AWACS testbed. I might have a play around with the EC-130V rotodome when I get back to see what it looks like on the B-29. Also, has anyone said the P1154 (AV-16?)? Somebody here posted a few snaps of artists impressions of the Supersonic Harrier and they looked quite good. -
Dammit! Mine is one of those accounts that got wiped. Christ knows when I played on one of these dodgy servers, but in any event, I think it took me 18 months of toil to get to Sgt on a crappy, choppy machine. I get my new machine with a GeForce 8800 a shade under 8 months ago and tried BF2 roughly 6 weeks ago and... wiped clean. With GRAW 2 and CoD 4 out, I don't care for the Battlefield series and it's "who's that tapping my shoulder? Wait, no that's someone tagging me with a barratt at point blank range. Almost didn't feel it." physics system, I just don't care about it anymore. PR and Oz Forces were the only thing keeping my interest in it anyways...

I gotta say... not a fan of Killhouse. Dunno what the players are like on your side of this rock, but here, it's pretty much grenade ally. It strikes me as a combination of Wetwork and Shipment. I'm digging broadcast though. It's the first map I've seen in a while that can, despite being a reasonably high intensity map, allow me to effectively use my claymores...

You reckon? I reckon it's Nathan Lane...

Why does everyone want the IAI Lavi? That p.o.s. was so overrated! I'm thinking J-10,JH-7, The VVS Bears, Backfires and Blackjacks etc, The Su-24/25/30/34/35/37 etc so there can be a little more balance for both sides. Failing that, I'd be a happy, happy man just to see a Mirage 2k or the Bucc roll of the assembly line... (My deep dark wish is for the ATLAS Cheetah... ) -
Alrighty, so the patch is out... ...whatta we think about the new maps...?

Wow... screw catching the train to work!

Yeah, Ditto. Keep your head down!
