To Drop External Tanks, or Not?
Jug replied to Oswald Bastable's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Extra drag and weight is extra drag and weight. If the flying model is correct you should be lighter, faster and quicker without drop tanks. Aerial combat survival is all about gaining an edge. Don't give your opponent and edge and get all of the small factors on your side that you can. No prizes for second place. I enter into combat Air to Air or Air to Ground without the drop tanks. I, also, tell my flight when to drop theirs too. Clean is fast, speed is life. Don't ever forget it or compromise. Punch them off near the expected fight (usually prior to the IP - square box on the map). It is a good combat habit to get into regardless of the era or the aircraft. Besides, think of all the jobs you are providing, requiring new tanks for every mission............ -

Be still my heart................ Does this mean its ready for release??? Congrats ahead for the sturdy work and a magnificent effort!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
I'd buy the Flanker. Put American engines or RollsRoyce engines in it and western avionics and what a beast you'd have. Love to get my sweaty paws on an Americanized Su-35.

I have noticed that many people takeoff the BUFF with the flaps down. The B-52 (all models) do not use the flaps for takeoff.....ever. The flaps are two position (up or down) and are intended to slow the beast down for landing only. Most aircraft have a 20 or 30 % flap position to use for takeoff on a short field. Not so the BUFF. There is no such thing as a short field takeoff. This 'D' model looks great climbing out like this, but in real life the BUFF climbs out like a beagle puppy hunting for a rabbit, nose down tail high. Strange, but that is the way the beast really does it. That may be why the aircrews calculate an "Unstick" speed rather than a lift off speed. -

Soviet Harrier

I assume there is no VTOL associated with this version? Better name would be "SKYHAWKSKI" and just use the Skyhawk complete fuselage. Then again, what do I know? -

Sweet, Diego! -
OK, I will deserve all of the 'dummy' labels that will appear on this thread, but I am trying to get a combined SF2/SF2V/SF2E game going and add on the mods that have appeared on the download announcements. New aircraft are supposed to be put into the SF2 Mod folder, but I cannot find that folder after extracting all of the CAT's I could put my hands on. Is this a folder I must create? Does the sim automatically pickup this folder and add mod aircraft? Has all this been explained on another thread and I didn't get the word? Help?

Thanks, guys. Got the glide path now!

MiG-23 MS Lybian Camo
Jug replied to paulopanz's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - File Announcements
Paul, Looks beautiful, but I thought the Lybian roundel was just a solid green roundel. It is very possible that I missed a change. The camo is nice. -
Single aircraft purchases?
Jug replied to column5's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I can only say that it is reasonable to ask for contributions, as you are able, to CA rather than pay for aircraft put up for download here. Long tradition of freeware here has brought a world-wide participation that is varied and valued. My thoughts on this and my spare cash go to the CA site and staff. -
The rear fuselage lights are out of position with the skin?
Jug replied to AGOSTINO's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Kevin, they look appropriate where they are. Good job! I would add to this thread that when you get your lights where you want them, post them here and save your CA mates a lot of duplicate work. Share boys and girls, Share! -
This probably will not go down well, but I cannot help but think about the Germans who died there that day too. Remember the politicians make the wars, the dog-faces just have to carry it out. They died too in, what they believed, defense of their country. Respect due to gallant warriors, whatever the breed.

Get some vids. Then get them here. Sounds like a fun day for aviation buffs, like me.

B-1B Released (Betas)
Jug replied to Dave's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Hey, the U-2 is a tail dragger too. All tail draggers were built to fly that way, the tailwheel was not added to protect the bird from Klutzy pilots. -

B-1B Released (Betas)
Jug replied to Dave's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
OK, guys, this is where you earn your CA wings. The chief driver (aircraft commander) is supposed to have the feel for the aircraft to know how to get off the tarmac without banging the tail on the dirt. Not looking for Golden Hands here, just a capable driver that can fly the jet. If you still are managing to bash the tail on the runway during takeoff, then give some thought to the way you fly. The Bone is not an F-15 and requires finesse to be flown right. At the end of the day, you have to do some of that "pilot s**t" that Goose recommended. If you still muck it up, go look in the mirror and chew that dude's butt then come back and nurse this bone bitch off of the runway without banging the tail. A tailwheel is made for Ham Hands pilots or as a correction for poor engineering (sorry Draken lovers). Just a thought............ -

Bunches of bombs at Mach Mach speed down in the dirt: What's not to like??? Well Done! -
Congratulations, mate. You're no less vital as part of the RAAF team as an aircraft technician.
