About time the CIA earned its keep. Since 9-11 and the material supplied our command structure that led to an Iraqi invasion for the wrong reasons, I have held that bunch is considerably low esteem. Bad guys beware. With a fire lit under them, the CIA is perfectly capable of confronting our enemies before they do something stupid. It appears that 'kudos' are due in this case.

What happened to all of the A-6 squadrons?
Jug replied to allenjb42's topic in Military and General Aviation
Right to the point, Column 5, as usual. I did an analysis of the AMX that Brazil and Italy were co-producing some time ago and the conclusion was that the increasing pace of weapons technology justified the savings in a lower capacity airframe. The AMX has a moderate load carrying capability, good range, and is very maneuverable. It can sting back with the AIM-9L aboard and is maintainable by the services involved. It may not stun the crowd with a high-speed fly-by, but for the money it is quite capable. Theory being, let weapons technology carry the cheaper airframe. Looks like the trend they saw in their planning then is happening. Precison weapons in place of precision aircraft. -
Gun Adding Tools, Tutorial
Jug replied to cora's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Guns on the new single-seat Mirage 2K work fine for me. -
Thank you for your suggestion and I freely admit my understanding of the peoples in that area is lacking. Doesn't change what I said, though. Nukes in the hands of a radical Muslim state is what scares us about Iran currently and the same fears surround what will happen in Pakistan in the near future.

RAF Tornado triple skin pack (lo-viz grey)
Jug replied to Syrinx's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - File Announcements
You are indeed quite a skinner. These, as have all of the latest deluge we in the community have been enjoying lately, are beautiful. Thanks for your time and successful efforts. -
Isn't that the same place where the state university placed a crocodile on the cover of their sports review and called it an alligator? Maybe more gators on poles will help bring the overall education level up a bit. (Just kidding, the US could plunge into a recession and it wouldn't affect the state of Alabama for a decade or two as the state is only vaguely aware of activities going on outside of its borders. They still think the University of Alabama is a storied football power up there with Oklahoma, Florida, LSU or USC.)

I wonder if the US will sit idly by and let the Paki nukes fall into the hands of a newly elected radical Islamic regime? They are a democracy and it could happen. Talk about opening Pandora's box!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This may be dated somewhat, but the news media are finally admitting that the recent rescue of four men and one woman held by the Columbian terrorist gang, FARQ, was by the US special forces and not the Columbian military which recieved (an colorfully took) credit for the rescue. Evidently, our spooks slipped a helicopter in foul weather to the camp, convinced the local guards that they had orders to transport the hostages and the locals helped them load them aboard the helicopter. The prisoners were not informed that this was a rescue until they were airborne. Not a shot fired and five prisoners, in captivity for four years, are now home. Venezuela is in mourning. This is truely one for the good guys who accomplish, daily, good things. They are among the "no news is good news" guys that rarely get and rarely want the media coverage their exploits deserve. Good on them all!!!

Appropriate comment. However, it seems to be a double edged sword. One one side the bad guys are now aware of one of the methods our SOF will use. On the other hand, all bad guys know for certain that we will be coming. Stay awake and alert if you're in the bad guy business, it is only a matter of time before some really bad, better equipped, better trained, and eager SOF dude will be offering you the opportunity to die for your cause. Kinda gives me a warm fuzzy.

F-102 Delta Dagger by Veltro2k
Jug replied to Veltro2k's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
The fuselage shape is considerably different in that the transonic characteristics of the aircraft are much better with the "coke-bottle" shape of the fuselage. The 102 fuselage is rather straight and the 106 is quite shapely. The intakes are a bit further aft and larger on the 106. The vertical tail on the 106 is chopped somewhat like the B-52G and H tail is chopped as compared to the B-52D. Most of the other changes are to accomodate a much larger and more efficient J-75 engine in the 106. Convair took the 102 back to the shop, made it all around better and called it the 106. I think these are what I know from the conversations that I have had with 106 drivers that ended up flying the U-2 with me. Is this the answer you are looking for? -

Israeli Air Force Thread
Jug replied to allenjb42's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
I'm interested. Bring it on! -
International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) dictates the use of a white light on the top of the tail of an aircraft, green light on right wingtip, red light on the left wingtip, red rotating beacon on the fuselage top and bottom. May be some more, but that is what I remember. All aircraft conform to this lighting scheme, military or civilian. Love to have your .ini addons for lighting or other.

Chinese Taiwan Mirage2000-5
Jug replied to IAFmars's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Just flew this beauty in WoE. True, no Air To Gnd capability (que merde), but she flies like an angel. I was unable to get the guns to fire though. Is this the way it is supposed to be? -
Chinese Taiwan Mirage2000-5

OK, OK, I am the only stooge out here, but I'm tough so I can live with the cat calls that surely will accompany this question. I have the beautiful 2 seat Mirage 2000, but where is the single seat version for download? -
Thanks to all of the modders out there, there is bunches of stuff for almost all aircraft. Comes a time, though, when you have decided to make a nation specific aircraft fighting in a custom campaign over add on terrain, where you find yourself hunting for that neat little [canopy] or [landinglight] add on to a stock or add on aircraft and you just can't find the doggone thing anywhere. The way I handle it may help you if you are starting out in this series and want to get into the whole nine yards of what you can do in TK's magic worlds. I have an external hard drive that does nothing but keep all my Wo* information. I have a file naming standard that aids the computers ability to sort and assist me in finding the files I need. I start with a date (YYYYMMDD - file construction date, not download date) underscore (_) what the file is all about (Effects, Terrain, USAF, USSR, Sounds) underscore(_) and then enough details about what is in the file so that I don't have to open it to find out what is in it. An important part of the file details is things like author/team that developed the add on. Many times follow on add-ons refer to a specific product by a specific author/team (e.g. Mirage Factory) and when it is right there in the file title, it makes it easy to find. In any given file folder, the files are sorted by date and you can tell which cockpit mod is the most current by going to the bottom of the list. I have an aircraft folder that is split into individual folders for each aircraft in the game subdivided into folders for skins and hangar/loading screens. I also include a [aircraft]_Addon text file that is the neat little stuff that I pick up on the various aircraft via the forum, experimentation or otherwise consolidated into a text file. Contents of my F-100D Super Sabre Addons demonstrates what I mean: F-100D Addons: Add the following: [fuselage] SystemName[009]=Canopy SystemName[010]=ECM SystemName[011]=DecoyDispenser SystemName[012]=DorsalPositionLight SystemName[013]=VentralPositionLight [nose] SystemName[007]=LandingLight [LeftWing] SystemName[009]=LeftLandingLight [RightWing SystemName[009]=RightLandingLight Renumber the SystemName items sequentially. I find it very useful for reconstructing a specific favorite aircraft for a custom campaign over a custom terrain. Anything new or neat that comes out, I just cut and paste to my living text file and I know where to find it all when I need it. I currently have some 60Gigs of stuff that is mostly all about Wo* Sims to indicate what 4 years of faithful participation on this site and others can give. My suggestion is to organize early or that neat tweak will never be found again. Others may have some organizational techniques that could help a new guy get started and not be overwhelmed by all this nifty stuff.

Difficult and sad times for both Czechs and my own USA. We encouraged the action that led to this and then stood by and let it happen. Not our finest hour. God bless and rest those who gave all for their country.

I am sure you all keep in mind that it only takes the bad guys 30 minutes too. This whole thread scares the dog-poo out of me!

Sabre Speed Brakes
Jug posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
I noticed the other day that all of my F-86E/F (from Tazkillers' F-86 Late Models Pak) have one speed brake extended (usually the left side) and the other retracted sitting on the runway awaiting takeoff. Cycling the speed brake key reverses the situation. When rolling for takeoff the extended speed brake retracts and the other speed brake stays retracted. While airborne, when extending the speed brake, usually the right brake extends and the left speed brake remains retracted. The aircraft does not go into the expected flight gyrations from asymetrical extension, but responds as if both brakes came out together. It just is not right! Anybody run into this or have a thread I can look at that I have missed earlier that fixes this?
