  1. Wrench, Thanks for the tip. Rotating beacons seem to be left out of some lighting schemes, are required by ICAO agreement. All aircraft should have navigation lights, position lights, and top/bottom rotating beacons. Landing lights are actually required too. Since it is the one thing I can do, be glad to help out any of the real modders with what can be a time-consuming detail.
  2. If anyone is interested, here is my stab at revised lighting: Chinese J-8 Finback Lighting Change the following: [Fuselage] remove: SystemName[008]=NoseGearLight add: SystemName[008]=TopRotatingBeacon SystemName[009]=BottomRotatingBeacon [LeftWing] add: SystemName[005]=GearLightLeft [RightWing] add: SystemName[005]=GearLightRight renumber the SystemName numbers sequentially replace the entire lighting section with the following: // Lights --------------------------------------------------------- //Position=[Left+/Right- of centerline], [Fwd+/Aft- of center], [Above+/Below- of center] [LeftPositionLight] SystemType=LIGHT Position=-5.802,-7.8632,-0.024 LightSrcOffset=0.20,0.20,-0.045 Color=0.98,0.25,0.25 Brightness=0.06 LightSrcRange=0.9 CanFlash=FALSE [RightPositionLight] SystemType=LIGHT Position=5.68,-7.781,-0.024 LightSrcOffset=0.20,0.20,-0.045 Color=0.25,0.98,0.25 Brightness=0.06 LightSrcRange=0.9 CanFlash=FALSE [TailLight1] SystemType=LIGHT Position=0.0,-12.752,3.661 LightSrcOffset=0.00,-0.20,-0.045 Color=0.88,0.88,0.88 Brightness=0.06 LightSrcRange=0.5 CanFlash=FALSE [TailLight2] SystemType=LIGHT Position=0.0,-12.755,3.661 LightSrcOffset=0.00,-0.20,-0.045 Color=0.98,0.25,0.25 Brightness=0.6 LightSrcRange=0.9 CanFlash=TRUE [TopRotatingBeacon] SystemType=LIGHT Position=0,0,1.04 LightSrcOffset=-0.20,0.00,0.00 Color=0.88,0.05,0.05 Brightness=0.07 LightSrcRange=0.5 CanFlash=TRUE [bottomRotatingBeacon] SystemType=LIGHT Position=0,-5,-0.8 LightSrcOffset=-0.20,0.00,0.00 Color=0.88,0.05,0.05 Brightness=0.07 LightSrcRange=0.5 CanFlash=TRUE [GearLightRight] SystemType=LIGHT Position= 2,-2.9,-0.25 LightSrcOffset=5.3046,49.0560,3.50 Color=0.66,0.66,0.6 Brightness=0.2 LightSrcRange=150 LightRange=45.0 CanFlash=FALSE IsLandingLight=TRUE [GearLightLeft] SystemType=LIGHT Position= -2,-2.9,-0.25 LightSrcOffset=5.3046,49.0560,3.50 Color=0.66,0.66,0.6 Brightness=0.2 LightSrcRange=150 LightRange=45.0 CanFlash=FALSE
  3. Proof once again that CA_Stary is "da' man"!!!!!!
  4. Thanks to the Mirage Factory crew. Sweet! I haven't noticed the minor problems pointed out by more qualified observers in this column since I was screaming over the top of a vertical yo-yo with a MiG-17. I won, he lost................great jet!!!!!!!!!
  5. Canadian Voodoo drivers would tell tales about real exciting formation takoffs because the CF-101 afterburner had a 0.3 second delay between the pilot selecting afteburner and the actual burner light. Imagine on an icy runway (common in Canada), lined up on only half of the runway (your wingman has the other half), head nod, brakes release, throttle advance to burner and you are dancing on the rudders to keep the aircraft lined up on the runway with the burners lighting up when it suited them fighting you all the way. Hoooorah. Even with engines fairly close to the aircraft centerline, one engine in burner and one engine spooling up with only a slight difference in light up time and you have a huge beast to control with little or no airflow across the rudder to assist you. Throw night and inclement weather in and you have an accident looking for a place to happen. Fortunately, as the Canuks say, they are absolutely great pilots and it is no problem.
  6. OK, here I go on the wrong side of the majority. However, this is an open forum and I get to toss in my two cents worth too, right? I have been on extended build up missions where the work never stops (17-20 hours) and only a very few in the crowd are tasked with making all of the decisons for the op. They need to be as fresh as possible and able to get all relevant information, think fast, huddle with the right people, and get our forces doing all of the right things. This is not possible from the drop seat in the rear of a C-130. The noise alone would fight all attempts to speak or think. Now I never sat in that seat and never had to shoulder the decisions for vast operations, but out at the end of the whip where I served a great deal of my time in, my hopes and prayers were that those tasked with that responsibility were making good decisions affected as minimally as possible by environmental factors. If the boy needs a big comfy seat to help him make good decisions as to when and where he sends my pink body in harm's way, give him the best in the business. Rank has its privileges, but it is all too often it is forgotten that along with those privileges goes the responsibility for lives, equipment, and success.
  7. Happy Birthday To....

EZLead - every day upright is a good day. Many happy returns......................
  8. The Jug is in. All due respect to the modders on this forum and, since I can offer only a bit of play with the .ini files, the best I can do is stand with them on this.
  9. You All See This From Over the Weekend?

Joint forces working at their best. Ground troops force the bad guys into a pocket and then call for air support. Goodbye bad guys, say hello to Allah. Since Allah is the same God of Abraham that I worship by another name, my guess is that their afterlife reception is going to be something less than expected. Good guys, RIP, bad guys, Burn in Hell.
  10. 2 years to the War!

If I am not mistaken, according to the Koran, "any" action taken that provids leverage against the Infidel is justified. Lie, cheat, steal, kill, murder, rape, etc. justified in the holy Muslim word. Just how much is any written accord worth with a nation/people with a guiding light such as this? Leaves me mystified as to why we speak with them at all.
  11. Wrench, My MiG-31 Foxhound radar will not turn on and none of the weapons will function including the cannon. During the preflight chatter, my wingman reports in out of ammo, but when we are airborne he is loaded to the gills. Got any ideas. (WOE install, up to date patches, lottsa mods)
  12. You All See This From Over the Weekend?

I heard it first from the Marines of III MEF, but it applies to all American fighting men and women. They can be your best friend or your worst enemy, your choice! May our heros RIP. Well Done!
  13. Forgot this part, Sorry: In the following sections, add the following, adjusting the SystemName numbers (xxx) to be sequential: [Fuselage] SystemName[xxx]=TopRotatingBeacon SystemName[xxx]=BottomRotatingBeacon [Nose] SystemName[005]=landinglight1 SystemName[006]=landinglight2 SystemName[007]=landinglight3 [LeftOuterWing] SystemName[xxx]=LeftPositionLight [RightOuterWing] SystemName[xxx]=RightPositionLight [VertTail1] SystemName[xxx]=LeftTailLight [VertTail2] SystemName[xxx]=RightTailLight

  15. Could be that the .DLL in question is corrupt, but the registry indicates that it is in place and functioning. The re-install could be checking the registry and not replacing the corrupt .DLL because the registry indicates that it is already there. Suggest you install on another machine, find the .DLL, and copy it to the machine in question. You may also want to try a complete uninstall, check the registry to make sure it is clean, and then try another install.
  16. One for our Sailors...

May the loving arms of the good Lord tenderly hold the soul of this warrior sailor. Rest in Peace.
  17. R.I.P. Joseph Dwyer,

May the good Lord rest his eternal soul. May the good Lord bring some peace to yours. Without trying to sound like a preacher, which I am not, I can tell you that faith helps.........a lot!
  18. I may have touched off a little flame here, unintentionally. My focus was the positive objectives of the IAF visit to Red Flag. Politics is not my arena and I should probably keep my comments to myself.
  19. At the end of the day, each force will learn from the other. This is the ultimate objective. Nobody has a corner on the "right stuff" and a good fight amongst friends is a good way to find out whose corner needs to be adjusted. The worst case is to handicap either of the participants to a point where a good evaluation of tactics and strategy cannot be obtained. Then everyone loses and then the money is wasted. Looking at a surging China across the mountains has made the need for cooperative ventures such as this a little more compatible to India's political leadership. Surprise, surprise!
  20. Aircraft Camouflage

It is my opinion that camo must be matched against the most likely threat to the aircraft. A-10's are down in the mud and their most direct threat is from ground fire. It makes sense to use the current light grey scheme to blend with the clouds and sky when they can. Jets which pick up the CAP role, need camo to help them when the fight gets out of the BVR arena, so, grey appears to be their best bet. Fast moving ground pounders need camo to keep the fighters off of them, but they spend quite a bit of time upside down in the fight zone, so full surround camo seems a good fit for them. Digital or traditional schemes should be the choice following some sort of vision acquisition testing. Remember that the paint job adds a surprising amount of weight to the aircraft, so camo must be selected to accomplish a defensive function against the most likely threat for the aircraft's most likely mission. I have even had the thought that a fighter looking for a visual target most often acquires his ground attack target by finding the aircraft's shadow on the ground, so a black paint job for the fast moving dirt movers might be best. You know, which one's the shadow? At the end of the stream is any esthetic need for camo of any type. This is military equipment and esthetic appeal plays no part in the fight. However cool I think digital is (and I do), the dudes that describe standardized paint jobs, evidently, need a little more.
  21. French army chief of staff resigns!

Well said, macelena. Problems that manifest themselves in serious breaches in discipline happen in all services in all countries and the commander on watch at the time bears the ultimate responsibility. Resignation is the honorable method of accepting responsibility for actions during the commander's watch. I seem to recall that the US Air Force went through this routine recently. Comes with the turf and is part of the price of the privileges of office. It is worthy of note that departure from the service under these conditions has a bad habit of covering up the splendid, professional careers that resulted in the assignment in the first place. The fact that some soldier, sailor, marine, or airman really stepped out of line and, as usual with military equipment, dealt lethal damage to the community he/she serves is not a sign the entire force is troubled. Bad eggs always make it by the best of screening processes. I usually have a field day with the French, but my humor and ridicule is aimed at their politics, not their military which is very professional. The French military does not appear to be well served by the politicians they protect. This is not the exclusive situation of the French. Many other nations do the same thing. What else is new?
  22. Subscription Plans NOW Available

Jug's in! About time we have a change to help support our best habit.........
  23. Thank You MK2

MK2, thank you for everything you have tossed in the pot to make CA what it is today. God bless and keep you.
  24. Wrench, Found my copy of 'The Hunters' and watched it again. Robert Mitchum was perfectly cast as the fearless "Iceman", Chris Saville. Looking forward to putting the crap shooter up against the Iceman. Of course, then you'd have to have Pell in there sneaking in front of Maj Saville for a shot. Saville had 7 kill markings under his cockpit and added two more in the final flight scene when he bailed to look after Lt No-Balls. What a great flick. Really nice work from you too. Thanks ahead of time. Jug
