Excellent points, Mako69. Pros and cons both ways. I just get a little sick of the US defense industry sticking it to the taxpayer. Object lesson, the new USAF tanker competition. Northrop Grumman Airbus beats the pants off the Boeing product in straight up head-to-head competition, and instead of a contract on the table as the law says, we have Boeing seeking a political way out. Seeing as the F-15, a great, but old warhorse, is discovering structural ugly things that McDonnaldDouglas is going to great lengths to say is not their fault, I say toss the lot and buy the Sukois. That would be a shot across the bow of our sometimes overrated DoD vendors.

NGHENGO, you good looking dog, don't you ever die! Great work. -
Answer: Numbers. We can acquire many more because they are cheaper. How do you think WWII was won? It was not quality of equipment, it was numbers. License built, means we build them completely here (Martin license built the B-57 and McDonnaldDouglas license built the Harrier). No dependencies, just manufacturing rights. We just improve them. Brits never heard of VIFFing in a Harrier until the Marines showed them how. The Harrier tech order listed it as a prohibited maneuver, but, you gotta love the Jarheads. Not a rule made that can't be broken. AV-8B came, in large part, from the American improvements. Ever heard of an RB-57 (forerunner for the U-2 in high altitude recce). I see lots of bad Russian jets with US avionics and weapons. Consider the Peoples Republic of China. The name of the game is Numbers. Bye the way, comparing the Su-33 to a pinto may be a little off the mark. Comparing the price tag seems to me a little more appropriate.

You know, I wonder if Hugo (as in Chavez, el presidente for life in Venezuela) has thought about the fact that the US, who does not have a history of imperialism at all, when backed into a corner where things are really hurting, will decide to resolve its oil shortage problem by just overrunning some oil-rich country. 21 days to Baghdad, couple of weeks to Caracas! We got the military power and whenever the US feels that survival is at stake, we will use it. Those who kid themselves by thinking the US would never do that are doing just that, kidding themselves. We can and we would. It would be a good idea not to be on the side pushing us into that corner. Right now gas is just more expensive, but if our economy starts to really fail and the US really starts to flounder.....Look out, Hugo! Wouldn't that make a scenario for a SF/WoV/WoE/WoI campaign???

Al Mansura Air Battle mission pack for WOI
Jug replied to Gepard's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - File Announcements
Some amazing numbers here........the EAF at the end of the Six-Day war had shot down 72 IDF aircraft? That is a big number. At the time, I don't believe the IDF had 72 combat aircraft. Egyptian AF fighters shot down 50 IDF fighters in two weeks. I have heard that the IDF did not fare too well in the 73 war, initially, but I was not aware that the EAF fighters alone took out 50 IDF fighters. With the cumulative numbers from IDF SAM losses during the same period, the IDF lost more aircraft to Egypt than they had in their inventory! Amazing! Without a requirement for proof, I, too, can tell a tall tale................................! -

Location for MiG-21MF pilot in cockpit
Jug replied to Gert's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mission/Campaign Building Discussion
I have found for tweaks on the pilot position in the seat and landing or position lights, you can use the following rule on position: Position=[right/left of centerline],[fwd/aft from acft center],[above/below acft centerline] These samples are from the MiG-21MF_Data.INI and the A-5B_Data.INI MiG-21MF_Data.INI // Crew --------------------------------------------------------- [Pilot] SystemType=PILOT_COCKPIT PilotModelName=PilotER SetCockpitPosition=TRUE Position=0.0,2.83,0.85 <-------------Change this MinExtentPosition=-0.30, 2.37, 0.05 MaxExtentPosition= 0.30, 3.42, 1.05 HasArmor=TRUE ArmorMaterial=GLASS Armor[FRONT].Thickness=62 CanopyNodeName=Canopy A-5B_Data.INI // Lights --------------------------------------------------------- [LeftNavLight] SystemType=LIGHT Color=0.98,0.5,0.5 Brightness=0.05 Position=-8.0867,-4.3525,0.045 <--------Change this LightSrcOffset=-0.2,0.0,0.0 LightSrcRange=0.5 CanFlash=FALSE [RightNavLight] SystemType=LIGHT Color=0.5,0.98,0.5 Brightness=0.05 Position=8.0867,-4.3525,0.045 <----------Change this LightSrcOffset=0.2,0.0,0.0 LightSrcRange=0.5 CanFlash=FALSE [landinglight] SystemType=Light Color=0.88,0.88,0.88 Brightness=0.05 Position=0.8400,0.4441,-0.7375 <--------Change this LightSrcOffset=2.6046,49.0560,3.50 LightSrcRange=150 LightRange=45.0 CanFlash=FALSE LightNodeName=LandingLight IsLandingLight=TRUE It is a trial and error routine, but it is fun doing some mods yourself and getting into the community. This is not my own technique, but ones I have found stirring around in the Forums. -
Good to know that they put their pants on just like everyone else, censored, one leg at a time. They're good, but not supermen. After all they are all that is left of communist horde! Who knows when the next Peoples Revolt (aka 1968) will sweep the country again and they will shoot all of their smart people to thin out the ranks one more time!

If politics don't get in the way (the sun will never rise on that day), the Grumman-Northrup KC-45 (A310), which won the flyoff competition with the Boeing alternative, will become the replacement for the USAF KC-35 fleet. Let's don't give up on improving the A310 mod as well, because it may be the only thing really flying amongst the two. -

My personal preference for light hunting and home security is the mini-gun carried by that WWF dude in "Predator". No size limit when someone yells "open a hole".........................

Some gave some and some gave all. Their hallowed memory rests with those of us with enough integrity to honor them on this, their day. To join them and stand beside those who served shoulder to shoulder in that long grey line will be for this old Tiger, enough.

What I need now is a trip to Alabama to pack the stuff up and send it to Paul. He will enjoy much and I will have space for some very expensive corvette parts. Everybody wins.......!

Every day upright is good...... Glad you're here as well. We all get called to do what our family, community, and churches never taught us to do for our respective countries (Exception: extreme muslims). Welcome to what McArthur called the "long grey line". He spoke about the Americans, but I expand that to every man or woman who fights for his country. I intend to constrain what I just said to those who fight, not those who murder, rape or torture. When you are young, tough, and bulletproof, the sirene call to battle is hard to resist. Far harder as an older, wiser person to send your son. Ought to be a rule that the man who orders the charge should lead the charge. If what is called for is not worth their life then why is it worth my life..........or my son's life? One of the most appealing aspects of nuclear war was the fact that the man who ordered the charge would most likely be its first casualty. Wandering thoughts. Following all of that.....................every day upright is good!
