I don't know Tomcat_ace, I thought you put the most salient point right out there. 3 decades and no kills pretty much tells the tale. Hornet can't say that. Lord knows what the Democrats are going to ask us (the taxpayer) to pay for, it might as well be to refurbish the Eagle fleet or replace it completely with the F-22 regardless of what it costs. Don't know of a single social program that keeps the commies at bay like a flight of Eagles or a carrier air group. Food for thought!

Thanks in advance and kudos to all who contributed. See if I can avoid making a smoking hole in the European turf.

Is someone going to package this? I'm just one of many flyers here without the tools/skills to do the mods you guys are doing and would love to fly the Vark as you have configured it. You can call me dummy. I've got a pretty thick skin and have been cussed by the best, so it will be like water off of a duck's back. I'd still love to see how low I can go in the vark in this new config. Thud drivers say anything less than 600kts and higher than 200 feet is a pussy run. The Vark is the only aircraft that, in reality, can smoke a worm burner egress from the target area in later scenarios. Love to give her a shot as you guys have modded her, fabulous nose art and all.

Joint Dual Role Air Dominance Missile
Jug replied to Silverbolt's topic in Military and General Aviation
Joint arena is where the games are played. No force even comes close to solo activity, but perhaps sometimes the Navy. USAF has always been about supporting the Army and the Marines have found out how sweet it is to call the Air Force in to move the mud around when their own CAS is not enough. Some good guidance has come from the civilian side of the DoD that has enhanced joint activities. Perhaps, the best example in leading the joint activities are the exemplary efforts of the Special Operations team out of Fort Bragg, NC. -

Pilot hurt in jet breakup sues Boeing
Jug replied to littlesmoke's topic in Military and General Aviation
Excellent analysis. Key legal component is whether Boeing knew this could happen and did nothing. Tough case to prove. You pays your nickle and takes your chances. If you get your dream job, you're buzzing around in equipment that was built by the lowest-bidder. The risk is what you accept when you strap the jet to your backside. My gut feeling is to stop whining about the outcome of a rough day. It is just bad karma that the rain fell on your parade today. At least your walking away from the encounter. Suck it up and go Eagle driver, you're alive! -

Looks good. Bring that puppy online! -
Pilot's checklists are for reminding the pilot to configure the aircraft properly for landing. You know, wheels, flaps, speed brake, lights, etc. Piloting the aircraft is what you can do well with practice, practice and more practice. Films I have seen of Harrier landings bring the aircraft to a hover over the water near the ship's deck and about the same height as the carrier tower. This is to make sure you can get into a hover without wrecking the carrier in case there is some unknown engine or nozzle problem. Once stabilized, the pilot slowly moves over the deck and sets the bird down.

Installing addon Aircraft help please?
Jug replied to UK_Widowmaker's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Despite some of the tounge wagging around here, there are no dumb questions. If you don't know, it is not a dumb question to attempt to try to find out. You are at the right place here at Combat Ace to get answers. Strongly advise that you read through the Knowledge Base as a lot of time and effort has gone into its creation and maintenance. There is soooooooo much to be added to the basic sim that enhances the enjoyment of flying in it. Do not be afraid to attempt anything. You can always wipe the board and start all over. Welcome aboard! This is the neatest thing in flight sims since sliced bread! -

How about the Cauldron? My wife offers the Steaming Pile? (she's nuts). I really think the Library has legs. I am not alone in attempting to figure out what mods are current and for what version of any particular aircraft. I also like the idea of popular scenarios as stand-alones (mentioned in this thread). In all cases I am for keeping our flying environment moving. New ideas are the meat!! -
Not sure what effect 6-10 F-16s, MiG-21s or Gripens would have in any conflict in that area. Who are the potential badguys and how long would one tiny squadron last anyway. I think Croatia should look at it in a similar manner that Ireland views its needs. Might be more appropriate to get some cargo aircraft/helicopters for the investment instead.

Well said. Right on point. How do you think the Flying Tigers of WWII fame flew the P-40 and consistantly waxed the Japs. They knew the strengths of their machine and developed disciplined tactics to exploit those strengths and minimize their aircraft's weaknesses. They chose their fights carefully, fought their fight their way, and stayed away from fighting the opponent's fight. A point interceptor is tasked to make dirt movers bust their tactics up and can accomplish the intercept mission without firing a shot! The North Vietnamese did it every day against strike packages. The MiG-21 of whatever flavor has all that it needs to do some things well. WoE is turf where the objective is to avoid all of the missiles, but the argument remains the same. Do what you and your aircraft do well and don't play in any other arena. There are no prizes for second place!
