  1. I did a search and didn't find anything but I am a relative newbie here.... has a flyable Halberstadt CL.II ever been available as an add-on to OFF? I wanted to fly a career as a gunner in a two seater for the novelty of that experience so of course I selected Gottfried Ehmann the top German gunner/observer ace of the war. He flew with SS-15 but unfortunately his most productive time was when SS-15 was flying the Halberstadt CL.II and that time is not availble in a career since the aircraft is not available. So that is my question.... can I make it available via an add on? If not... anyone know if there is plan for more 2 seaters in OFF2? Maybe I just have to be really really patient and wait until then? Thanks
  2. HiTR questions

I currently have several careers going in BHaH. I would like to add some of the features and upgrades of HiTR but don't want to start over on the careers. If I upgrade to HiTR do I loose my existing career pilots? I may wait on HiTR - will HiTR be in P4? I would rather buy P4 actually.... is the plan that it upgrades over BHaH and you keep your pilots? And about P4.... if I could add to the wish list a button that acts like the mallet you use to unjam guns I would like that! Reloads on Lewis guns would be nice to have as well! Cheers!
  3. HiTR questions

Olham: Thanks for the heads up! I did notice an increase in my opponents ability in a dog fight.... took some damage and took me more firing passes to down my opponent because they seemed more evasive. Like you - I enjoy flying the Albatros machines but using a DII right now flying as Manfred Freiherr von Richthofen in Jasta 2. I plan to shift him to Jasta 11 soon in Early 1917(found I could edit the career and shift Jastas) to pick up his career flying the DIII and then of course the DV. Since you are in Germany - I occasionally make it to the Stuttgart or Koln area for work - are there any good Great War museums in those areas that you are aware of?
  4. HiTR questions

I did purchase HiTR over the weekend - and an now happily playing HiTR with all my careers still active. Thanks for the advice to all!
  5. Better OFF with a better system?

Yes - I should realize that I am pretty late to this game and probably all these things have been discussed and debated before my time. It will be great to see what they come up with in OFF2 but assuming it is still based on CFS3 it will of course still have some of the same limitations is my expectation.
  6. Better OFF with a better system?

Is it possible in CFS3 to assign the WWI 2 seaters to more of a fighter bomber roll than a bomber roll? I never got into CFS3 so not sure how well they represented the FB role but that would be a little closer match to WWI 2 seaters than using them as pure bombers maybe?
  7. Better OFF with a better system?

Speaking of 2 seaters and the AI.... I find that BE2c and Sopwith Strutters just fly straight and don't fight back until they go down in flames making them VERY easy targets..... is that the experience of others? You would think they would at least try to dive for the deck and evade or can't that be a part of the AI?

I will send you a PM Prost! Enjoy your virtual Warsteiner! Drink up!
  9. HiTR questions

Wow - I was away from my computer for a long weekend and was surprised by the length of this tread when I got back to it just now. First of all... Thank you all for the discussion and now that I know my careers will survive I will for sure be purchasing HiTR. I was thinking based on what I had read at the website that the most important aspect was adding the American squadrons and aircraft but it seems from this thread that it really is much more than that and I will get more out of OFF if I upgrade. So I will! I would like to add, that I did a lot of research on what sim to get started in when I decided that I wanted to undertake a WWI simulation. (as you know there are choices). Because I treat these sims as an extension of learning history I highly value sims that are as historically accurate as possible. Before starting to play I read some books about WWI aviation and researched many of the key figures. I have a plan that I have built that will take me through the progression of the war flying in the careers of the pilots that were most interesting to me (hense why I didn't want careers interupted by installing HiTR). So I selected OFF from the other options out there and have only been flying OFF (BH&H) for about 2+ months now (still pretty much a novice.) I am NOT at all disappointed with my choice. The experience has proven to be all that I wanted and through this forum and my own trial and error I have gotten down my play in BH&H and will now add HiTR. I think this is a great sim and a good value for the money and highly recommend it. I will play this until OFF2 is available and look forward to the exciting changes that promises! Thank you everyone for helping me to get started.
  10. Doing It For Real

That is awesome! I can share your excitement. My girlfriend bought me a ride in an AT-6 WWII advanced trainer for an hour for my birthday. It was awesome - I did loops, rolls, split S all by myself flying front seat while the instructor pilot flew back seat. He did the take off and landing but other than that I flew the rest of the flight. That girlfriend is now my wife of 12 years and we have two kids so watch out for where you are headed..... maybe it's a diamond for her birthday!!! I would love to fly in a bi-plane open cockpit!
  11. For anyone interested... I edited a pilot career and successfully moved my pilot from one unit to another. This was important to me because many aces flew for more than one unit in the war and I found that to fly the planes they flew you need to move your pilot too. I like to role play as an actual pilot in the war and have also loaded the actual pilots photo for my dossier picture. So Max Immelman starts the war in FA62 flying Fokker E.III but if you don't move him to Jasta 10 then he ends up flying a Roland C.II in Spring of 1916. For what it worth to anyone else... it can be done.
  12. I just kicked off a career flying an RAF BE2c as Major Hugh Dowding (of RAF Battle of Britain Fighter Command fame)in RFC 16 Squadron. (BTW was able to put a actual picture of him from WWI era as the dossier picture). In this role he only flys recon, bombing, artillery spotting etc so I am wondering is it possible to get any rewards in BH&H if you don't shoot down other planes? Thanks for any advice/experience other have had flying 2 seater bombers in the game.
  13. Might be worth an experiment to find out if it can be done! Thanks
  14. 33LIMA: "I hand-edited this to 'Fighter' with Wordpad and saved the dossier (I have done this before, to ressurect dead pilots so I know that pilot dossiers can be edited in this fashion)" Question: Can I change the unit (i.e. transfer to a new unit)by editing of the dossier of an active pilot?
  15. Pilot Pics in Dossier

Got it thanks! Do you happen to know the resolution needed? Is it a .jpg?
  16. Pilot Pics in Dossier

Is there a way to change the photos of your active pilot in BH&H? Can I put in my own photo?
  17. Hello, I just got my copy of OFF BH&H last night. I had a copy of CFS3 but had never played it after checking it out... I liked IL2 series better so spent my time playing that. I have been off to submarines for some time now and wanted to get back to flying so after som research picked OFF for my WWI experience due to the historical research and faithfulness of the game from what I read about in the reviews and forums. I have spent some time here in the forums today to figure out the best way to get started and I have a couple of basic questions. How best to learn the flight interface of CFS3/OFF? There doesn't seem to be any training missions (I did check out ROF ICE free version and enjoyed the training on that)so I am looking for advice on how to come up to speed so I can begin a career. That brings me to my second question. I am researching what career I want to play right now. I enjoy playing under the name of an actual ace and following thier career for the squadrons they flew in and the airplanes they flew. When possible I also like to use paint schemes of thier actual aircraft to make it as realistic as possible. Most of the famous aces flew for more than one unit and many started as observer/bomber pilots and then switched to fighters. Is this possible in the game? Can I switch from bomber/observer to fighters with the same pilot over the span of a career? Also, If I start with one unit can I ever go into that pilot and transfer to another unit? Thanks in advance for any help you can give me in getting started! A Newbie: Golden Eagle
  18. Getting Started - New to OFF

Thank you. This is very helpful. I did find a sticky that had some advice as well. I also found something from CFS3 that I printed out as well as a key board chart. That should get me started up the learning curve but I am sure to be back with more questions!
  19. Hi - I have been away from flight sims for awhile but when I last was playing - WOV was my favorite. I had read many books about the air war in Vietnam and I loved flying those jets but the game had two major faults in my opinion. Fuel useage was completely unrealistic and the game lacked arial refueling. Has that been addressed in SF2:V? When I flew an F100 for the USAF or a A4 for the USMC I expected to be flying mostly ground support missions but you were always sent Up North as a part of Rolling Thunder and that just didn't happen. Has this aspect of the game been improved? I see that the planes flyable seem less than what I had in WOV in that the A6 Intruder is not available other than AI. Is that true... fewer planes in SF2:V? I did try to find some of this out with some quick forum searches but came up empty so if anyone with experience with both the old and the new Third Wire Vietnam era could comment that would be much appreciated! Thanks!
  20. Thank you for the info!!! I now have newer PC running Vista but I understand that WOV will run on it so I will try reinstalling WOV and then get the upgrade for that. Sounds like I would enjoy the mods being made for SF2:V so I will likely upgrade if for nothing more than better graphics. Has anyone tried creating a career as for Sandies in SAR using the A1 aircraft. I loved reading about those guys doing close air support for the Jolly Greens during the rescue missions. Some FAC type career would also be really cool but not sure you can call in air support in any SF based sim. Thank you again!!!
  21. I have been under water playing Silent Hunter campaigns for a while and feel it is time to get back into the air. I would like to do this with a WWI Flight Sim.... I have been seriously considering trying Rise of Flight but have serious doubts that my older PC Rig can handle that demanding simulation and it is not in my near future to upgrade. So - I am considering First Eagles as it seems more realistic for my hardware. I have played Third Wire Stike Fighters Vietnam in the past and thought it was a pretty good sim but really thought it had some short comings in no inflight refueling and no ground support and interdiction missions in the campaign. I like historical accuracy! My first question is - do you feel the campaigns are historically accurate (stock or add-on?) Secondly - can you fly more than one plane type during your campaign? Manfred von Richthofen had kills in the Albatros D.II, D.III, D.V and the Fokker DR.I. I want to be able to fly all those planes if I am flying as von Richtofen in the same career. Can that be done? Thanks in advance for any help you veteran First Eagle pilots can give me.
  22. Question on First Eagles Campaign

Thank you for the input. I have been reading about OFF as well and it sounds pretty good... how would you rate the strengths and weaknesses of each sim? Sounds like you have more planes and can start as a wingman in OFF and also that you can start a career earlier in the war for the German, French or RFC. While 1917 & 1918 are the biggest years for aces there were certainly some interesting developments during 1915-1916.
  23. I was noticing that when I finish one campaign in FB+AEP+PF that I automatically roll to the next campaign and it doesn't let me choose the plane. Many great pilots flew more than one plane as they progressed through the war but the campaign in the game doesn't seem to allow this. Does anyone know of a work around for this... a file I can edit or better yet has someone created an application that help you manage careers? For example... George Welch flew at Pearl Harbor and downed 4 planes in a P40.... then he went to New Guinea and flew P39s and got 3 more before finishing up in P38s. The game takes me from Pearl to New Guinea but auto assigns me to a P40 again and I can't change to a P39. I did a search to see if this was already discussed but I didnt come up with anything so any help anyone has out there would be appreciated. Thanks!
  24. I have really been enjoying the Korean War campaign except when flying the F51 and F4U. For some reason my cockpits for these two planes is not up to par. I have seen some screenshots of others and they appear great but my F51 has pink needles on the gauges (YUK!) and my F4U gauges don't seem to be very readable and some don't work at all. Am I missing a mod or some config file? Other strang things happening: F4U exterior has few or no markings F80 at times (not always) has very odd colored main body. Wings are always silver but main body can be silver or sometimes red or turquois and even rainbow like. Any hints? Thanks! img00024.bmp img00025.bmp
  25. IF I try to just reinstall the F4U and F51 from the Complete Mod files do you think that would cover this or is there a missing file from somewhere else Maybe I just need a new puter and graphics card!
