  1. And that doesnt change one of the things I was getting at - that the Arabs actually had a few good pilots.
  2. **** sorry - guess I will try to make it a bit clearer next time! The combat record of all Arab militaries (is that the Army/Navy also?) was never up for discussion - you know that - In case you didnt get it I was setting you straight on your last 2 posts with a few facts (well as close as) which I can actually back up and show that what you put was mostly utter ****. The fact is they did have some good pilots despite losing the overall wars and fought and flew as well as they could.......so an F-15C merging with an Iraqi MiG-29A for a gun fight potentially provided a very dangerous and experienced MiG driver.
  3. Happy Birthday Slartibartfast

    Many Happy returns!

    Happy Birthday Mr Jedi
  5. Happy Birthday Marcfighter!

    happy birthday
  6. How cool is that! You would probably love the IfTach Spector book then - an easier read but describes some remarkable dogfights - particularly one where he ends up in an almost static scissors (F-4E vs MiG-21), tactics used, Osirak, USS Liberty - some priceless info!
  7. The Iranian pilots were actually trained in the US by the USAF in the 1960s and 1970s and had far superior equipment compared to Iraq - the Iraqi pilots were really up against it until the later years of the war. From the late 1960s Israeli pilots were USAF trained. The USAF were also surprised at how good some Egyptian pilots were when they started training them (when Egypt started receiving allied equipment) - because like you they assumed they must all have been useless pilots. Not claiming to have the full truth but here are some useful books on the subject that I have you may want to check out: Loud and Clear "memoirs of an Israeli fighter pilot"(Iftach Spector) Arab MiG-19 and MiG-21 units in combat (Osprey) Iranian F-4 Phantom II Units in combat (Osprey) Iranian F-14 Tomcat Units in combat (Osprey) Israeli A-4 Skyhawk Units in combat (Osprey) Israeli F-15 Eagle Units in combat (Osprey) Israeli F-4 Phantom II Aces (Osprey) Israeli Mirage and Nesher Aces (Osprey)
  8. Potentially - Iraq had some very experienced combat pilots (from the 1980-88 war ) but were no doubt overwhelmed - and the only recorded head on Merge (in combat) between an F-15C and Iraqi MiG-29A resulted in the F-15 out turning the MiG! Syria in 82 also had experienced Aces with many kills flying for them but had no counter to the advanced avionics in F-15/F-16.
  9. 2010 FIFA World Cup

Cheating is now a sad part of football - that seems to have been imported from Europe - and even Brasil do it!
  10. The very basic guide to ECM Jammers in SF2 Guide applies to ECM pods and aircraft with ECM supplied with the games and their supposed simplified implementation by ThirdWire. 1. Noise (Barrage) Jamming This is a brute force method of sending out a lot of RF waves to confuse enemy radars. The downsides of this are that it gives your position away and provides a good target for missiles using 'Home On Jam' (Some SA-2 models do use HOJ) * AN/ALQ-71 (QRC-160) External pod - Basic noise jammer - this will also interfere with your RHAW / RWR scope in game. Use - Don't rely on the jamming and always be aware what's coming for you. This pod is only of use against early model SA-2s. If you are flying high over Vietnam try to fly in with other flights for mutual protection. 2. Deceptive Jamming Provides false information to attacking radars - Probably does not present a target to HOJ missiles (Most powerful last) * AN/ALQ-51 Internal Jammer -Used on 1965 US Navy jets like F-4B(65), A-4C/E(65), A-6A, Early F-8s....etc * AN/ALQ-100 Internal Jammer - Used on 1967 US Navy and IDF jets F-4J, F-4B(67), A-7s, A-4F, late F-8(69s)....etc * AN/ALQ-126A Internal Jammer - A-4F(74) * EL/L-8230 Internal Jammer - F-4E Kurnass (78) * Unknown Israeli Internal Jammer - F-16A, KfirC2 * AN/ALQ-135 Internal Jammer - F-15A Use - Deceptive jamming in SF2 seems to be an effective method against all SAMs in SF2 - but still be prepared to look for any SAMs coming at you. Note: Some Soviet Jets like the MiG-23MLD and MiG-27 also use internal deceptive Jammers. 3. Dual mode Jamming This type uses both Noise and Deceptive Jamming (only 3rdWire knows how it is implemented!) (Most powerful last) * AN/ALQ-101 External pod * AN/ALQ-119 External pod * AN/ALQ-131 External pod Use - The ALQ-131 is the best pod to take against SA-6/SA-8s - but still be prepared to look for any SAMs coming at you. HOJ missiles might still go for these pods in game.
  11. Have posted a link in the other thread. Btw the content of .cat files cannot be changed - they will only ever hold the original 3rdwire files. You overide the files held in .cat files by extracting a file from there and then placing it in the correct folder.
  12. Might be something here http://combatace.com/topic/43234-how-to-make-a-sf2-aircraftweapon-useable-in-gen-1-thirdwire-sims/

  16. 2010 FIFA World Cup

They were playing a good side and they are through which is what matters - moneys still on Spain - or any team with Xabi Alonso in it for that matter (despite the second penalty)
  17. 2010 FIFA World Cup

Germany 4 Argentina 0 - didnt see that one coming - congrats to Germany - the cup could be yours - if it wasnt for Spain
  18. 17th June 1940 Lancastria...

Wow - I never even knew about this!
  19. 2010 FIFA World Cup

nice pic - never mind - still backing Spain I am. Brasil let their frustration get to them in the end - however at least they showd some spirit and fight!
  20. 1. Tail base was too long, 2. cockpit reflection was wrong, 3. A port on the stbd side of the nose didn't need to be there. http://bbs.thirdwire.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=7417
  21. Hilarious Cable Technology Reviews

Thats ace - surprised amazon havnt noticed The cable knew where to go, and hooked itself into the correct ports without help from me - all the while, the choir sang praises to the almighty digital god. With trepidation, I pushed "play," and was instantly enveloped in a sound that echoed the creation of all matter, a sound that vibrated every cell in my body to perfection. I was instantly taken to the next plane, where I saw the all-father. I knew with my entire soul, that all was good in the world. But then I realized the cable was blue, so I only gave it one star. I hate blue.
  22. Assume you have restarted the PC since installing Track IR - if not do so now. Check the things in here: http://bbs.thirdwire.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=6722&p=41786&hilit=TRACKIR#p41786 May be worth checking natural points site also - I have rarely seen TrackIR problems so the only thing I can suggest is - Try this (which Im guessing is in Vista): Right click on the SF2I shortcut -> properties ->compatibility tab - tick "Run this program as admin"
  23. 2010 FIFA World Cup

Probably some truths in there - the lack of young English players coming through now is worrying - never used to have that problem! Some people might say that kids prefer to play football on the Xbox etc - but thats not really the case - the kids are still out there and good enough if given the chance. So yes the Premier League - something else we sold off to the highest bidder
  24. 2010 FIFA World Cup

You sound confident Silverbolt - I think its going to be close - penalties anyone? And back to the US now where David Blaine is said to be gutted - his record for wandering around a box doing **** all, was recently broken by Wayne Rooney.
