Strike Fighters 2 Europe
MigBuster replied to Gr.Viper's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
pulled this from 3rd wire - might be useful The ALR-69 RWR display can identify radar type and display different symbols. The symbols you're likely to encounter in the game are: 2 = SA-2 6 = SA-6 8 = SA-8 Z = ZSU-23-4 AAA 21 = MIG-21 23 = MIG-23 15 = F-15 F4 = F-4 F0 = F-104/F-105 M3 = Mirage III U = Unknown S = Search radar V = M163 Vulcan AAA (hopefully these are pretty self-explanatory) Radars guiding missiles have flashing circle around them. Priority threat (the tracking radar with highest signal) will have a diamond displayed around it. Keep in mind that this can only identify radar type, and not the exact aircraft type. For example, MIG-23MS, which is an export model with MIG-21 radar, will show up as "21", not "23". Most add-on planes will not be identified (show up as "U") unless additional data is added - for add-on planes with radars, you need to add RadarFamilyName= (and type of radar, please see stock data) in DetectSystem section to have it show up on RWR (or else, it'll show as Unknown). And if you want to add the ALR-69 to add-on plane, you need to set RWR Type to TEWS and add ThreatLibraryList= which is just a list of known identifiable threats (again, please see stock plane data). (and if you look through the FlightData.CAT, there are additional icons not used, such as 27,29,31 etc, for anyone wanting to build more modern threat library . --- Also, even aircraft with older RWR "vector" display has slightly new feature. On aircraft with up front RHAW control panel, it'll light up different SAM button (LO/MID/HI band light) depending on radar frequency, so you can roughly determine the type of SAM radar tracking you. Eary and late SA-2 (SA-2 B and SA-2 F) will indicate LO freqnecy band light Mid-year SA-2 (SA-2 C and SA-2 E) will indicate MID freqnecy band light SA-6 will light MID freqnecy band light while its searching/tracking, but moves to HI frequency band when guiding missile. But this missile guidance may not be detectable on some RWR (its using CW type radar for guidance). SA-8 will light HI freqnecy band light TK -

Shrike help
MigBuster replied to Stingray72's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Uninstall the game remove the folder it was installed in Install Wov Install the latest Wov patch only install the correct version of Direct X Dont change anything - just test the game before modding to make sure it works the sim is rock solid in terms of stability on XP (im on SP3 btw) And no you dont need to be a programmer - anyone can do this - if you can use Notepad and save files - thats it. Adding chaff /flares/ and any weapon or ECM pods on the right stations can all be done -
Flight stick or Keyboard?
MigBuster replied to i fight by 1's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
never flown with the keyboard ever - mainly because with a joystick its a lot easier - you get much more control - and my youth was the 80s when all games were played on a Joystick!! :) -
SF2 Weapon pack question
MigBuster replied to FalconC45's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
No the weapondata.ini and dat do not need to be in the weapons folder in SF2 - each weapon will have its own data.ini file now mine doesnt hang - try uninstalling and installing it again. -
SF2 Weapon pack question
MigBuster replied to FalconC45's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
is the weapon actually shown in the weapons editor? also is the ALQ-119 lod file in the weapons folder with the others ? ie: C:\Documents and Settings\<name>\My Documents\ThirdWire\StrikeFighters2\Objects\Weapons (the above will be slightly different if you have vista/win7 btw) -
Squadron Mates not quite so worthless but "Get him off me!" WTFO
MigBuster replied to zzHOOTERzz's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Hit ctrl and R i think to target the friendly in trouble - then you can padlock him using F4 and swing towards him - often its a close by wingman - and IF you get there in time the Mig on his tail should be an easy target. -
F-100D Trainee needs help so he doesn't crash
MigBuster replied to MattMilsop's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
YAP2 is worth it IMO if you like the Vietnam era - theres quite a lot of work gone into it and its got a good genuine team behind it - and you will see a totally different side to WOV you wouldn't otherwise - and a better appreciation of the real air war in SEA. Yes despite the comment above this sim excels in its Vietnam era setting and since the WOI release TK has put more historical accuracy into the sims - and this is carried over into the SF2 series out of the box. As a Falcon 4 player I would say this series sits somewhere in between the hardcore Falcon 4 and the arcade Ace Combat - but if you are happy to mod it you can push it much further to F4 if you wish - most things can be changed you will find - because TK has left it open to be changed via ini files. In regards to how jets handle this will vary - some 3rd party jets might have more accurate flight models or some may not - potentially the flight model can be as realistic as humanly possible. Its quite impressive when you consider the amount of jets in the sim - whereas F4AF just has about 11 flyable F-16 models to make accurate in this era. -
Wow OMG - thats terrible - even though we have our little spats I really hope she recovers and is okay!

White CockpitParts F16's in Strike Fighters2?
MigBuster replied to AGOSTINO's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
You will find the textures you need in WOE/WOV/WOI - do you have any of the older games? (if not you will need to create your own or use others) Actually there is a thread in the 3rd wire forum on Missing textures from the F-18 pit - its the same thing -
Your Nemesis...
MigBuster replied to Lt. James Cater's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Actually got jumped by 1 of these over the sea in SF2 on a way to a SEAD mission in an F-4C - its shot down my wingy - then naturally I kept all my bombs and went in full burner to the target with the MiG-19 stuck to my six and firing practically all the way - just think a few years back i would have ignored the little **** - but he wasnt giving up!!! Due to his persistance I missed the AAA sites - however i pulled out of one dive and saw a MIG-17 in front of me going in a straight line (for once) - so I took the carrot and hit it with my remaining LAU-3As haha. last week i was flying the SF2 custom 1v1 missions to do a little testing - mainly using the F-4J. Firstly I could still beat the MiG-21 in a turning fight with a bit more effort and gunned that down. Didnt bother with the 17 - just did the old disengage and hit it with sparrows trick - and used my wingy on the 2v2 to hit the other when it got on my tail The MiG-19 turning fight turned into a stalemate where it came down to fuel - however on my next attempt i just went past it - but outrunning it to get in to position for AIm-7s is not like it used to be - in fact I ditched the gun pod in the next flight so i could get more speed to run from it!!! Going in the vertical with the F-4 against the Mig-19 is probably best not advised due to the F-4s **** handling at high altitude in this sim - and dont assume you can out climb it either because it seems you cant very easily!! The MiG-19 is a pain - unless you can out turn it - in which case its easy as long as you dont fall for the carrot and stick AI tactics!!! Some things i don't like about the later patch versions: The MiG-17/19 react when I lock them with radar - errr afraid not - pretty sure they didnt have RWRs back then. The Hunter and MiG-17A/F seem over powered - flying the Hunter in WOE you can out turn anything in it and thanks to the extra power can run most things down. The MiG-17 couldnt outturn a 747 at over 450kts - unless the pilot was superman - however in this game they can out turn you at any speed! grrr still - cant have everything -
Your Nemesis...
MigBuster replied to Lt. James Cater's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
When they bingo they often hit the deck and peg it for home - which is something they never used to do so thats a big improvement
