  1. The Israelis extended all their cannon muzzles - and if that pod did fire would render the bottom camera useless. It must be an Isreali Mod: http://images.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=h...;hl=en&sa=X
  2. Actually if you have any info on why the system was not used on other jets - or why it failed would be good to know. Even in OIF 2003 accounts the F-14 pilots all seem to be using their eyes to look for SAMs.
  3. That looks like the RF-4E which was one recce version of the Phantom so they should be cameras.
  4. Sorry wasnt sure what you were getting at with the comment on there being loads of info on the net - when I had posted a similar thing about 5 posts up.
  5. Excellent - do you have any more info on this - such as the year it was tested or your source for this info?
  6. Well if you find any instructions from TK on how to implement one in this series for Jets in service after 2007 then please let us know. If there is a way to simulate it then it hasnt been done yet - not too bothered myself because I rarely go past 1982 - and Im not holding my breath that TK would put something in that is 20 or so years out of the series scope.
  7. Im not sure yet but you may have to have a stronger signal to select a target - try moving the nose up or down. Also is this after you have locked up another target on there and pressed 'delete'? Also not sure that if they are lower then you it may also not be easy to select them due to ground clutter - guess what im saying is that this may be part of the game now. If that doesnt work then you could try cycling the radar modes back to search - if you can select it then there could be an issue.
  8. The Mirage is a dog in WOI at turning so you have to keep your speed up - and move a lot because I can almost guarantee while im after a Mig-17 - another 1 is on my six getting ready to fire :) The Isrealis had to use a technique called stitching against "inferior" fighters that could easily out turn them - keeping a high energy state and going up in the vertical then slashing down in a dive - unfortunately this is difficult to do unless you have a trackIR. And hitting them with cannon is still not that easy either! Try not to slow down and turn! Have noticed the new AI pilots are good at keeping energy in Mig-21/23s also.
  9. Just noticed hes put a decent map in WOE for the planning screen with 3 levels of zoom by default like WOI - its finally useable!
  10. Be interested to hear how well NF works with all the changes Did you use the latest weapons editor for WOI to recompile the weapondata.ini?
  11. Looks like good old TK has upped the stock skins from 256x256 to 512x512 minimum in WOE and reworked some - like the B-57 and MiG skins. You flying with any shadows on?
  12. Armor skins

Looks cool - have you considered converting them for Open Falcon and Red Viper also? - (I suppose Red Viper (Free Falcon 4/5) is the eye candy version).
  13. Thought they always did in WOE - same missile different seeker heads
  14. A lot of the FMs may need revising - no new info on this thread - look at the Wings Over Israel thread because much of it has been said already.
  15. Yes I would say keep them separate if you can anyway
  16. The objectdata.cat in WOI only had the WOI specific files in it last time I looked - will check again after its been patched.
  17. One more disadvantage of an F-117

I would hope so however do you have any reliable evidence to back that up? - because I dont think the true F-22 RCS is likely to be published. Also does this refer only to the frontal / head on aspect RCS? Should also say welcome to CombatAce also johnrey - hope you find all you need for your flight simming desires.
  18. Dont forget about us will you now
  19. Have always mapped that to a JS button straight away so wont even notice when I install it later. Have you checked that key works okay in notepad or whatever?
  20. It performed as well as it could for a first generation rear aspect missile for taking down bombers, and had some success against fighters that never saw it coming as to out turn it and remove their engine as a heat source. Still useless compared to later versions though.
  21. Every Shahak kill is listed along with these stats on the kills: Jul 1966-Apr 1967 = 10 Cannon, 1 Yahalom Six Day War = 47 Cannon, 0.5 Shafrir1. Jul 1967 - Feb 1969 = 9 Cannon, 2 Shafrir1 Mar 1969 - Dec 1969 = 33 cannon, 1 Shafrir1, 1 AIM-9B, 8 Shafrir2. 1970 = 27 Cannon, 12 AIM-9B/D/E, 8 Shafrir2 was loads of cannon kills in 1973 also.
  22. R.530 "Yahalom" that was it - 1 x MiG-19 destroyed by a Shahak 1966. One thing I didnt know was that the IDF used the Soviet AA-2 (R-3) from 1968 - Quite a few had been captured from Egypt air bases but no kills are recorded by them. Useful info is that the Israelis considered it to be comparible in performance to the AIM-9B which they also used at the time - but both were considered 'Superior' to the Shafrir1 which had been used in the 6 day war. from Mirage and Nesher Aces (Shlomo Aloni)
  23. An IR missile seeker doesnt give off any IR emisions AFAIK - thats the problem. An IR missile can just "see" the heat energy given off by the aircraft - and it just follows that - it doesnt need to hit the target with any energy. Hence the only way to track it is via an advanced radar or by tracking the heat given off from the missiles engines. I think Helicopters have had IR turrets for years - one method seems to be firing a laser at the incoming missiles seeker head to confuse it. How well they work im not sure - quite a few choppers were had by MANPADs in Iraq - but not sure if they had these counter measures - or if they upgraded them to prevent more shoot downs, or the Insurgents just ran out of missiles. Now the DICM may only work well on slow moving A/C - or they may just think that Jets are better off staying above the MANPAD operational altitude instead - who knows but they dont seem to be outfitting fighters with them yet AFAIK. IRs main disadvantage is that its performance depends on the environment its operating in - ie not good looking through clouds etc. However best way to avoid modern IR missiles is probably to stay out of range.
