Modding and Realism
MigBuster replied to a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Stigler - We thank you for your work - it is no doubt of excellence coming from an experienced modeller as yourself. There are teams/groups within the SF community (think Dave already said this) that do strive for much more realism and accuracy as they can get out of the sim - so potentially you could join one of them - or even set up your own subgroup to meet your requirements. You can probably understand why everyone goes on the defensive when you show up - even I remember the Gina thread - harsh Criticism of freeware and people that dont meet your standards only just isnt on - for the many reasons you have been told time and time again. -
Cool - thanks for the insight from someone who actually knows

Back for 1 post only :) Typhoid we expect better from you sir - does anyone actually know what type of boats these were? A few months back when what looked like Iranian Dingies buzzing around US warships I too laughed and thought where was the threat there - but was told they had some pretty handy anti ship missiles and were very in fact a very big threat to the ships. Although no way of knowing its possible Georgia could possess the hardware.
-
Had they actually flown them at this point? looks like they had just studied them on paper - otherwise he would have picked up on the underpowered and limited engines the F-14A had. The statement "the F-14A always wins against the F-15A" is not shown in its true context - so I will assume that means on paper specifications only. Bit like the RAF concluding the Tornado ADV always wins against the F-14/F-15 because of better range, cheaper cost and job retention. :)

still no idea tbh - http://www.airliners.net/aviation-forums/m...ead.main/61374/

LOL - I pity the fools in Hollywood for not casting the F-4 instead! - although difficult to say how many hearts the poor old A-6 actually captured looking like that :) Never heard of that till now - although 1979 - probably why - gets good reviews on the IMDB thou
-
Oops - I forgot one of the F-4s biggest appearances came in Top Gun - near the end on a tiny photo with Pete and his Dad standing in front of it - the ultimate snub of a great jet even the F-16 got a bigger role - Yes I have seen it too many times it would seem
-
The F-18 got a good showing in Independance day where it defended the earth with valour and distinction - and even took out that massive spaceship - surely that film was bigger than all 23 of the Iron Eagles put together? But then again I suppose it was seen as more sci fi maybe and nobody noticed the Hornets :) As for the F-4 - gets a small role in Die Hard 2, Flight of the Intruder, maybe a minute showing in we were soldiers and...... The F-15 kicked A in Air Force 1 - but again just a small cameo - surely the original Transformers gave it some glory for us kids though?

And what point are you making here exactly? - that someone who plays with the cockpit switched off should be made an example of publically by you and anyone who agrees with you? You can shake your head all you like - personally I have spent years turning WOV into an experience close to how pilot accounts tell it including accurate loadouts etc etc. - but if someone wants to fly their jet without a cockpit - they can and will NOT be singled out and brought down by you! The point you are missing about this series, everytime you come over here, is written down for you in black and white in many posts - but you choose to ignore it and carry on with your 1 man crusade to put down anyone who doesnt want to manage their oil pressure! Im sure this has been said before - If Targetware is so great why do you keep coming over here? -
Lol - Everyone knows the Hercules im sure - but if your going down that route why not The Douglas CH-47/AC-47/DC-3 Skytrain (Dakota)

"French President Nicolas Sarkozy has agreed an outline plan with Russia and Georgia to try to resolve their crisis. A key element calls for all forces to return to the areas where they were before fighting broke out last week. Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili suggested some details were unacceptable and the French mediator admitted difficulties lay ahead. Earlier, Russia announced its military activity in the area was completed and witnesses saw troops pulling out. The BBC's Gabriel Gatehouse in Georgia says fighting in the South Ossetia region does now seem to have ended. But despite the diplomacy and apparent withdrawal, rhetoric on both sides remained fiery and analysts were predicting a long road to peace. " http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/7557457.stm And thats me signing off from this thread - and politics for a while - many thanks for the varied and interesting viewpoints from everyone.

Not denying anything tbh- Well I guess in that case the UK press is lying through its teeth then - and it wasn't a complete disaster after all if you say and everyones happy - glad thats sorted - silly us. "I dont understand how things work" - makes absolutely no difference to how things look over here - and that statement portrays how Bushs image and actions are portrayed over here whether you like it or not. I will over look this because I think you may be speaking on emotion here.

Isnt the Star Trek Utopian fantasy of the future based on Communism to a point  A world where everybody is content to work for the greater good - and in doing so everything is provided for you - it of course would never work in reality due to greedy people :) There is no perfect model - Democracy will have to do for us - but there is still a danger your right - its no protection from getting a Hitler in charge by any means - and if you look at it from some angles a Hitler that keeps his population happy and on side by treating them nicely can potentially lead them whereever they like.

Interesting footage thanks Just goes to show that deciding what to believe from any source can be difficult. So much information but what is really happening out there? You could also say - did CNN know it wasnt Gori or were they just handed the footage and told it was in Gori? - lets face it who in CNN looking at the film would know where the footage was from let alone anyone watching.

Nice - done with a distinct tongue in cheek style - Might see if hes done something comparing to when the British were last in Afghanistan :)

Lets try to keep this a bit shorter: No one on here is deluded enough to think that if we drop arms - every other nation will do the same. I understood the policy of preemptive intervention well - it removed dictators from Sierra Leone and Serbia quickly. I was for going into Iraq to remove Saddam/WMDs and securing energy supplies (if anyone thinks that energy isnt in our interests then think again) - despite whether or not those countries were involved - and the dodgy legality issues The military invasion was a success - what followed was either the biggest miscalculation of all time - or somebody really didnt give 2 **** for the Iraqi people and serving forces (btw if you find an Iraqi that is happy to be liberated - let us know wont you) What really ***** me off about the Georgian situation is the doubles standards and hypocrisy of the public statements by our so called leaders Now they are clearly on Georgias side - on what basis - thats right Georgia is a democracy??. So is a Democracy with a lunatic despot - who starts a war expecting us to back him up against Russia ok then??? I think you will find it isnt in any way - that is a bridge to ****** far. George Bush has been weilding the sword of power like a 1 armed Monkey with a hand grenade in his time - not just at the cost of lives - but current and future relationships between countries. Gordon Brown (who was NOT elected by us btw) has been no better with his comments. Im not defending Russias actions in any way - im just not stooping to the blatant levels of hypocrisy that my glorious leaders are. thats politics folks - and it sucks!!!
-
Gepard - thanks for vetoing Georgia out of NATO -btw all hail Ger... do you think we can trust you enough to pull our troops out

Style over substance! bit shallo.... actually cant talk being in the UK - where its everything :)
-
Hopefully its over - hooray for now anyway Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has ordered an end to military operations against Georgia, the Kremlin says. He told officials he had taken the decision to end the campaign after restoring security for civilians and peacekeepers in South Ossetia. However, Russia has been highly critical of Georgia's leadership, and there were no signs of imminent talks. BBC

You are right about the Soviet propaganda - and it was made clear to us that thats all it was at the time - it was only after the end the cold war the majority of western people got to see the actual state of what it was like over there. I just cant see that any conventional engagement against Russia wouldnt be a real war - their missile tech is excellent - I really dont think effective close Air Support could be given by launching standoff weapons from 20000 ft, 15 miles away with ground based FACs only. Air superiority would be VERY hard to achieve over their territory -mainly due to missiles - and we are not talking about a centralised C&C structure with modified obsolete SA-2/6s backed up by SA-16s here - you could be looking at any Satelites being blinded or taken out for a start and an enemy that knows a bit about electronic warfare and has had many years to watch and learn from its mistakes. Its defo not propaganda about systems like the S-300/S-400 unless the propaganda is being put out by our guys to worry us. It really doesnt even bear thinking about the bloodbath that the ground war would be.....and I would certainly never underestimate them based on the hilariously one sided conflicts of recent times. anyway - the beat goes on: "Russian-backed rebels in Abkhazia say they have begun an operation against Georgian forces, as UN moves to achieve a ceasefire failed to make progress. The rebels say they are trying to push Georgian forces from a strategic gorge in the west of the breakaway province. France's president is visiting Russia and Georgia on Tuesday, despite Russian criticism of a new draft UN resolution. In Georgia, troops have withdrawn to positions around the capital, Tbilisi, to defend against any Russian assault. Reports say that Russian troops now control many key bridges and roads across Georgia, leaving the capital isolated. Many residents have been stocking up with food and fuel, and correspondents in Tbilisi say there have been clear signs of panic and confusion in the city. US President George W Bush meanwhile has strongly attacked what he called Russia's "invasion". Mr Bush said the Russian actions in Abkhazia and the other breakaway province of South Ossetia were "unacceptable in the 21st Century" and that Moscow was guilty of a "dramatic and brutal escalation". Trust me the Soviet Union was always portrayed as a place you just would never want to go let alone live during the cold war years - not quite sure how or why you got the idea it was ever portrayed as a Utopia? The casualties really would be unbelievable in a conventional war - especially over that terrain - and there is no way you could ever compare it to the 1 sided Iraq fiasco with their army out in the Desert and practically no Air support.

Emotional Georgian press: IRAKLI ALADASHVILI IN GEORGIA'S KVIRIS PALITRA Georgia is presently alone in the fight against a huge country like Russia. In truth, we should not pin too much hope on lazy old Europe. Countries that have experienced the grip of Russia's tentacles... are likely to give us stronger moral and, more importantly, material support than Germany, France or Italy... Immediate deployment of US armed units in Georgia is the best option today. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/7554065.stm Im kinda thinking that "Immediate deployment of US armed units in Georgia is NOT the best option today"
-
I Know my friend - but im not sure anyone can see the US as being weak politically or militarily - particularly when any front opened against Russia might not involve conventional forces only.
