Super Hornet F and It's Ava
MigBuster replied to Erwin_Hans's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Great site - even I can get to that link so its something your end. Guess I can send you them as they are in the public domain In regards to the flight model - it must handle so differently - would need an FM expert to help you with that. -
Super Hornet F and It's Ava
MigBuster replied to Erwin_Hans's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Wow nice work! The F-18E/F are very different to the A/B/C/D models - what changes are you after? -
Not that I know of - The Open Falcon guys have access to everything to make those kinds of changes.

There is a free flight sim in development see here: http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?showtopic=30340 You wont get a link to a dodgy Falcon 4 AF download from this site - there are very few combat flight sim developers these days and they are all very small outfits that need to be supported.

always dismissed top gun as totally unrealistic - but it looks like they did their homework for most of it - may have even based some of it on Nam era pilots such as Winston Copeland. Even the dogfight at the end - always thought it was typical hollywood that the bad guys missiles missed - but then again countries like libya (which it is kinda depicting )had exported rear aspect AA-2s - which must have been flippin useless!!. Of course 6 x F-5Es Vs 1 x F-14A (aka Iceman) guns only at the range depicted should be a kill for the F-5s regardless of their skill level - cue Hollywood

Quick single mission question
MigBuster replied to HawgEngineMech's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Normal Single missions will just choose a random enemy jet within the time frame its set for normally. You have to build a custom single mission - there are probably some already set up (depending on what game you have) - so if there is an F-4 Vs Mig-21 mission you can just go to your "missions" folder - open the mission in Notepad and change the F-4 to something else. -
"Fitting the Spey meant a completely redesigned engine bay, larger intakes to handle the greater mass flow of air and wider, shorter jetpipes" Think the author has just directly related the performance issues to the fitting of the RR Spey 202/203 in general.
-
Dont think smoke was an issue - the Buccaneer used non reheat RR Speys - (the A-7D/E used licensed built Speys) Over the J-79 its claimed that the RR Spey gave better take off thrust, faster rate of climb, better low level acceleration, slower approach speed (more bleed air for boundary control) but on the negative side - reheat/AB light up times increased, max speed fell to Mach 1.9 and high altitude performance was worse than the J79 Phantoms.

PLAAF FIGHTERS
MigBuster replied to koushiro's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Looking at TheDragon1.ini There are no player flyable PLAAF squadrons - so cockpits are not really an issue unless you want to fly the PLAAF planes in single missions. For the J-7 look for a Mig-21 cockpit in the downloads section and use that You will find there arnt that many cockpits about because they are difficult and time consuming to make - so in some cases you will need to make do with what you can get - unless you make your own! The PLAAF planes will be installed just like the others you have done so already - as for readmes you will have to make do with searching old threads and the Knowledgebase for the info you need. Although it would be nice - making detailed documentation is not a requirement so in some cases it hasnt been done. Heres some links http://www.thirdwire.com/community.htm there are others so try searching -
Graphicengine.dll problem
MigBuster replied to koushiro's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Some of the missing parts have probably been moved to other sites - one maybe http://cplengineeringllc.com/SFP1/ Somethings missing or in the wrong place I would think At what point is it Crashing? You have put this into a separate install of WOE yes? - and WOE is patched up? -
As a reaction to the US Missile shield in Europe, Russia decides to base ICBMs in Chavez land Nah wont happen....maybe

Fair-Use Modding
MigBuster replied to column5's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Sounds Like Open Falcon is what you want there. The lure of this series and its strength lies in its 1960/70s setting and that its no where near as hard core as other sims. People can have fun sticking an F-14 in WW2 and hosing down some Zeros - and those who want to try and make the game near to realism can do also. For example Navy F-4Bs and Js very rarely seemed to use any centreline gunpod - hense it was removed from their default loadouts - ok for me but not most peoples idea of fun. Think the point being that any activities relating to realism are not forced on anyone - people are free to do what they like without being taken down by rivet counters. Anyway back OT - sounds like a good scheme c5 -
Good story if true - be interesting to know why a Prowler was launched first though!

For all you Raptor Fans - that just cant get enough http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/7510364.stm

moddifing an airplane
MigBuster replied to pato poli's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
WOI is the only game at the moment that supports a more modern ground and AA radar at the same time (has a new avionics60.dll)- and if you had that you could have just compared how the stock F-16A was set up in that - you would also get a modern HUD. As it is you can change the avionics.ini and have an old style AA and AG radar - although my advice to you is open up the avionics.ini from the Phantom and look at the changes made in that - you will see how the other modes are added etc. Dont forget to look at the knowledgebase or old threads also if you get stuck regards -
Hey I think I like the F-15 in WoI
MigBuster replied to Miracles's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
(Very) Basically To Beam another jet - If you are being locked up by a jets radar - turn and put them on your 3 or 9 oclock - this will make a "pulse doppler" radar lose you momentarily breaking the attacking jets radar lock - and making a SARH missile (like a Sparrow) go ballistic. How well this works depends on how its programmed into a sim game - it works far too well in WOI apparently compared to how it did in RL. -
Another aircraft add-on issue
MigBuster replied to HawgEngineMech's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
You can see the version you have on the main menu screen. see entire article about these things here: http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?showtopic=25880 You need to install the correct patches in the correct order and only if you dont already them included in the version -
