MigBuster replied to combatacepilot's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Cockpits and cockpit builders are rare - but there are a few duel pits out there. A-6 (Stock/Razbam) F-111 (free) A-26 (Yap) Helicopters (Yap) C-47 (YAP) HC-130 (YAP) The effort required for a free and accurate TU-22 / TU-16 pit would probably have to come from someone with a big interest in those Soviet jets. -

mig 29G
MigBuster replied to planes's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Depends what nation its set for - look in its Mig29G_data.ini file. If its East Germany then I assume it will use Warsaw Pact / Soviet weps and be an enemy jet though you can change its nation, or whether the nation is friendly or an enemy if you like - via nations.ini You would then need to change its weapons pylons in its data.ini file to accept nato weps -
If its a matter of survival I suspect the superiors would prefer the expensive jet and the very expensive pilot to come back in 1 piece - than worry about a few racks and bombs. Have read accounts of F-15s dropping their tanks in the 1991 gulf war before they engaged some Iraqi jets BVR with AIM-7 Sparrows.

Are they not just being upgraded to SP5 level? -
I find very hard to dogfight in Normal mode of WOE series!
MigBuster replied to skyline's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Yeah the F-15A in 1979 with AIM-9Ls and AIM-7Ms is a great way to get your confidence up in the default game. Just use your radar in TWS mode and use your sparrows - always make sure you ID the target as enemy or freindly. In the 70's you may have had an AWACs to help you out (before awacs visual ID only)- which isnt modelled in this game - however once you lock a target with the radar use ctrl+R (i think) to target the locked jet - this will tell you if its an enemy or not. If they fire a missile you can dump both chaff and flares (the f-15 carries loads) and thats good enough to spoof the stock soviet missiles. If your RWR is buzzing the inbound could be radar (chaff)- if there is nothing buzzing then its gonna be an IR missile (so flares) If you hear "he's firing a missile" take evasive action regardless (you will learn over time that you can ignore this at your peril) Also once in close you cant miss with the AIM-9Ls Of course how you fly will depend on the jet and era you are in - i.e. in 1962 you will be guns only and always merging so you wont have to worry about their missiles - however taking on Mig-17s in a Hawker Hunter can be pretty difficult. -
Its not where you are looking in that screenshot When you click on the "Fly" button to start a campaign mission you should get 3 pictures: Ramp - Click on this picture if you have more than 25 mins before your take off slot - Most of the time is needed to allign the INS Taxi - Click on this picture if you have more than 2 mins to takeoff - you start on the taxiway with everything on Runway - Under 2 mins you have to use this option - you start on the runway with everything on hope this helps

Is WoE easier then LOMAC?
MigBuster replied to Alexrey's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Yeah WOEs a lot easier - out of the box it is not as hard core /realistic - so is designed to be fun . The AI are not as good and you are also dealing with 1960/70s soviet missiles - which can be spoofed and out manouvered (unlike modern ones) Of course this can all be changed through mods when you have played it for a while and it becomes too easy. -
Start with the training missions and stick your jet to be invulnerable. Work through each training mission exactly as described in the manual You will find the exact instructions for the RAMP start are in the manual also - including every single button you need to press After you have learnt some of the basics then there is lots of useful info at http://forums.frugalsworld.com/vbb/ If you want to run the sim at realistic level in the future theres a lot to learn good luck

Am I the only one that finds LOMAC impossible?
MigBuster replied to Alexrey's topic in Digital Combat Simulator Series General Discussion
4 Days!!! think anyone would find it impossible after that amount of time. You just need to practise and gain the knowledge required to know where you are going wrong and avoid getting into bad situations I dont have LOMAC but its supposed to be a pretty serious sim based on real life - in which case if a modern missile is fired at you - you will be hit! Modern missiles have about 95% hit rate, are impervious to flares/chaff, and can easily out turn you. There are ways to defeat them - though it will require finding tactics in old threads and then practising until you can do it. -
You can set the jet to be invulnerable until you have learnt a few things If you have stuck everything on ACE level straight away then you wont get very far - this sim is modelled on the real world - so there is a lot you have to learn. 1. Go through the training lessons many times - they can not be skipped - you need to know that jet inside out 2. read the manual - but ignore what it says about avoiding SAMs and missiles, and dogfighting for that matter - because its worthless information. 3. Use dogfighting mode to practise guns only and BVR with AMRAAMs so you see how it works - and yes you will need to practise a lot - and use a TrackIR! It takes most rookies some time before they can start to get one over the ACE Mig-29 in guns only - what you need to do is search at forums for tactics - its the only way you will know what to do At ace level - if you think you can just fly into their airspace and take on their IADS (like I used to think) then you will die everytime - For example a single Mig-21 with an R-77 is a threat you cant ignore - if it gets to within 30 miles of you start thinking about diverting your route or taking it on (which will depend on your current situation).

Tell me about a flight sim that has...
MigBuster replied to feldwebel's topic in General Flight Sim Discussion
Falcon 4: AF - if you have the time to invest - theres a lot to learn There isnt much choice out there for what you want - although Lead Pursuit (the F4:AF developers) are supposed to be developing a new sim in line of Falcon with better graphics amongst other things. -

Why do combat sims get such low ratings? :(
MigBuster replied to Alexrey's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
still OT Yep - theres a good chance you will actually have to learn what every single switch does in that cockpit depends how much you like F-14s really though -
IranIraq Campaign
MigBuster replied to Salraine_Chi's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mission/Campaign Building Discussion
Just had a look and WOE cat does actually have the desert airfields and some mosques in it - so it may now include the files you need - so see Gocads reply above -
IranIraq Campaign
MigBuster replied to Salraine_Chi's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mission/Campaign Building Discussion
At a guess it may need to use the desert.cat from the original Strike Fighters project1/Gold - basically the GermanyCE.cat in WOE may not have the correct files in it. Youd be best to place a link to where you got this mod so it can be confirmed -

MigBuster replied to Alexrey's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Nothing commercial - except maybe AceCombat :) Not that id want to promote it (dont use it myself )but I think Red Viper (goes over Falcon 4.0) has a 2D and 3D cockpit for the F-14 made by Aeyes - not sure how good the flight model is though: http://forums.frugalsworld.com/vbb/showthr...ht=f-14+cockpit -
For Falcon 4: Allied Force only (theres a first) and free too - so bow to the god they call Zerk!! http://zerk.110mb.com/

B-52 Formations
MigBuster replied to Foxendown's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Was hoping the new patch may improve some things You could try downloading this Mod here: http://www.users.bigpond.net.au/CharlesEAW/sfpage.html Its for WW2 bomber formations - Ive no idea if it stops them banking too much - but you could probably take what hes done and see if you can change the US Bomber formation to your liking. -
"Wings Over" series
MigBuster replied to eliahu2006's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Out of the box: I actually like the stock WOE campaigns - and theres some great jets in it. WOV comes with carrier ops Theres a great mod called Yankee Air Pirate for WOV if you like the realistic side of the Vietnam War WOI is the most advanced currently and if you like the historic Arab Israeli battles then its the one to get. Bear in mind that the next patches for WOV and WOE will bring them to the same standard as WOI. Also a lot of the mods should work in any of the games -
Why do combat sims get such low ratings? :(
MigBuster replied to Alexrey's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Interesting - back when I last bought a Gaming Mag - probably for the Amiga back in about 1990 the good flight sims like Falcon and Flight of the Intruder at the time were always given briliant reviews and were considered mainstream and cool to have. Guess combat sims were a new concept back then to most people though. Cant say ive read or taken much notice of gaming reviews since - they are usually based on the persons own opinion - or influenced from on high - so they mean Jack S***. When I was a kid I always went for the game with the best graphics or one that had the best name like Robocop etc - but I was always bored of them in a few weeks - and graphics are meaningless if the game play is crap. However these games are always the most expensive and are guranteed money spinners for the developers so they aint gonna whine. Now ive been playing the SF series since 2003 and am still playing it - so for me this 1 man operation has managed to keep my attention and succeed where all the big software companies have failed badly. It is like the ultimate perfect everlasting game that I wished so many others would be when I was younger. This only applies to me though - you cant force anyone to like a game (though you can brainwash kids into buying games based on blockbusters ) People like what they like! -
Camo Tanks
MigBuster replied to CaptainCA's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Yes - you would just extract the skin for the drop tank in question - then repaint it using something like Photoshop or GIMP -
Typical - Just checked it from work and can get to it fine - so its just me, the gateway or AOL stopping me at home
