P-51D-30 problems
MigBuster replied to Shin_kazama's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Well if you are sure the Mustang.ini file is set to look at the correct files then - just a hunch having not downloaded it - but is its NationName set to USAAF? If it is then change to USAF or put USAAF into the Nations.ini -
F-111 Problems
MigBuster replied to Hooah!'s topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Sounds In the planes _data.ini file you can see/change what sound files are being used - this is from the stock F-4M: [sound] EngineSoundName=JetEngine AfterburnerSoundName=JetBurner DamagedEngineSoundName= FlapsSoundName=Flaps AirbrakesSoundName=Airbrakes GearsSoundName=Gear The cockpit folder with the files has to be in the F-111's folder ie: C:\.....\Wings Over Europe\Objects\Aircraft\F-111F\Cockpit -
Frightening Encounter
MigBuster replied to Fubar512's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Can the game model a situation where a plane goes to burner and gives off a better heat signal to track? Ive never noticed any difference in this regard. The know it alls at f-16.net certainly think the F-22 is conventional when it comes to modern heaters - it still gives off heat friction on the airframe etc -
WOE stock GR.3 harrier campaign broken?
MigBuster replied to SBIR's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
The service date for each plane is at the top of the data.ini file (ie F-4E_Data.ini) Yes you can replace an existing plane by changing the Aircraft Type and DefaultTexture. If the unit you are changing is human playable it will have the list of weapons below it - you may also want to change the campaign.ini file also. The campaign date is at the top of the campaign_data.ini and the start dates for each unit are in the campaign.ini Opening up a can of worms - If you want to use the F-16 for the Germans you would probably have to create a German F-16 - as in make a copy of the F-16A_Blk10 folder - rename it to F-16A_Germ then rename its main ini file to F-16A_Germ.ini. In the Data.ini set NationName = WGermany Of course then it will only be able to use German/NATO weapons - you may also want to get different skins for it also. good luck with that - make sure you check the knowledge base here which can help you in more detail. -
WOE stock GR.3 harrier campaign broken?
MigBuster replied to SBIR's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
SFP/SFG/WOV/WOE are practically the same game underneath especially if they are all patched to the latest version - probably 90% of the mods work for all 3. The loadout is determined by the campaign data ini file that you are about to get from the flight folder - which should be moved to the relevent campaign folder. The automatic loadout for each plane is in the aircrafts personal loadout.ini (harrierGR3_Loadout.ini) file that can be found in "object.cat" and once extracted should be moved into the harrierGR3s folder. note - Once you extract a file from a .cat file its only a copy - if you hash it up you can delete the ini file and extract it from the cat again. -

Jul 06 weapons mod tough for sam evasion.
MigBuster replied to tmdgm's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
The SA-2F Model 5 is very difficult to beat without ECM or chaff and comes in to the standard game from around 1968/69. Your best bet is low level with these - am not sure they were this good in IRL though tbh there would have been a lot more jamming and ECM aircraft to support you. Proper SAM evasion techniques are needed - ie beam it for a start. -
SFP/WOV/WOE Patch names and numbers
MigBuster replied to TurtleHawk's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
5-15-06 is service pack 4 for WOE/WOV and SF - though if you go to the thirdwire site you simply select the game from the drop down box and it then lists the patches for that game only. To distinguish a SP from a patch take note of the size - you will see on the thirdwire site 5-16-06 is pretty big for each game 40MB - 70MB whereas patches are small (4MB to 6MB). -
Its great news! - thats the first ive heard of the Iranians being allowed access to its people though! oh well we can just speculate for now what deals are being done behind the scenes.

Some help adding the F-16N skins to WoE
MigBuster replied to marvinblue's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
The old F-16A and N allowed up to 4 AIM-9s from what i remember though its nation was AGRS by defualt Check this section of the data.ini file and put in NATO or USN on the "AttachmentType" if it is AGRS only. SFP/WOV/WOE Patch names and numbers
MigBuster replied to TurtleHawk's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
The date is also the official naming convention used by Thirdwire http://www.thirdwire.com/downloads_wov.htm Theres actually a load of patches in between that have dates on too - that date is shown at the bottom right hand corner of the main screen when you load the game so you can easily tell which version you are patched to. Service Pack 4 is 05-15-06 and it includes all the fixes from previous SPs and patches Basically its the 4th major upgrade since the release of Strike Fighters in 2002 - the previous packs are no longer available so its less likely anyone knows the exact dates of those patches. -
Frustrating myself
MigBuster replied to Madmalamute's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I think the 3D model would need to be redone - new pylons could probably be added into the data.ini but I dont think anything would show up in the game. Someone was making an actual Mig-31 sometime back - assume its still a WIP? -
It is a big deal in the UK - has been the main headline since they went missing. Both sides claim they have proof the sailers were in either Iraqi or Iranian waters - bearing in mind the actual borders were still disputed between Iraq and Iran anyway. Blair/ Beckett and other ministers have now got the EU and UN to ask for the immediate release and to stop parading the servicemen on TV(which is illegal they say) and Iam pretty sure this will be dealt with diplomatically for the foreseeable future. A couple of the boat crew have admitted on video to being in Iranian waters - though its difficult to tell what they have been through. It may be likely that the Iranians are not happy that some of their people are being held in undisclosed locations. It is claimed by the media also that the revolutionary Guard have a big say in the running of the country and some hardliners may want to keep them. Whatever happens I hope they come back soon. Actually one of the things annoying me at the mo is that they have made the woman sailer (Faye Turney) wear one of their headscaves/veils - cheeky sods!!

Thank you to the Aircraft Designers!

Ebay or Amazon maybe: http://www.amazon.com/Strategy-First-Strik...0662&sr=8-1 Planes in Strike Fighters - try here: http://www.column5.us/faq.htm Similar to WOE really though there is a comparison chart here: http://www.column5.us/sfchart.htm As for bombing techniques there is an entire manual on ground and air weapon deployment techniques by Andy Bush at www.simhq.com so do a search there. -
Why russian aircrafts are so weak
MigBuster replied to kelvin's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
You can add chaff and flares to any aircraft including the amounts with a few basic file changes - however you cannot change how effective they are - what you need to do is change is the parameters for each missile - which can be done using the weapons editor. There was a discussion recently on the Simhq forums regarding more accurate figures for the russian missiles - do a search over there and get the lowdown. Note: If you up the russian missiles parameters be prepared to take the missiles fired at you seriously regardless because the Chaff/Flares wont be enough. -
More MiG-27 skins
MigBuster replied to cgold's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
There are some here for certain models: http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?autom...amp;showcat=198 If there are no skins for a particular nations airforce then its because no one has had either time or the inclination to do them. Eventually a Mig loving skinner will do them all -
Couple of noob WOV question
MigBuster replied to PythonOne's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
1. Extract it from flightdata.cat using this : http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?autom...mp;showfile=343 5. Still being worked on I think - do a search on old posts here or at simhq for more info + check out the terrains download section on here. -
Help with modifying files in WOE
MigBuster replied to marvinblue's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
To open any files with a .cat extension you need to download and install this: http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?autom...mp;showfile=343 you then need to extract the file you need and open it with the relevent program - for .ini files Notepad is great. BTW the files always stay in the .cat file so by extracting the file you only make a copy of it - meaning that you can actually delete the file if you hash it up too much and the game will use the original in the Cat file - or you can just extract it again obviously! -
MiG-21 Question
MigBuster replied to PythonOne's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Other than using Fraps im not sure - I think there is a debug mode that you can put the game into that gives a whole load of info - cant remember the key combo though - try searching old posts on here or simhq if no one knows -
What should i do to get a playable F-104S/G in WoV? Help
MigBuster replied to Miracles's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I use the F-104C-10 in WOV - mainly because it was actually used in the SEA conflict Download an F-104 cockpit from here: http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?autom...um=10&st=30 The files need to be in a folder called Cockpit - like the other planes. The f-104.ini file should have an entry that refers to the correct cockpit .ini file ie: "CockpitDataFile=F-104C_cockpit.ini" -
They are great in Falcon F4 - you dont have to learn hundreds of key combos for a start. Im sure that the Track IR thing will be resolved when 3D clickable cockpits become more available - in the next generation of flight sims. I would expect the next incarnation of Falcon (or whatever) to have a clickable cockpit. To use a mouse with your opposite hand is not difficult btw.

Weird WOV graphics crash
MigBuster replied to franx's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
This is not a common problem and this series is very stable - so im almost certain it is to do with the graphics card/drivers or monitor drivers. It may be worth changing a few in-game graphics settings and than trying some different profiles from your advanced card settings also - (if you can)
