    That video of the F-35 is pretty much 90% pure BS....maybe someone should do a video nit picking all the negatives of the A-10 over the years....it wouldn't look pretty would it!!

     

    Why is it when the people who fly these things actually comment it is a different picture

    survivor and everyone goes home. It was a fascinating data point — that F-35 was running an immature, never-made-for-prime-time, incrementally developed tape. But he was able to run the CSAR force through his training and SA [situational

    awareness], using some of the F-35’s strengths, and mitigating its challenges.’...

     

    ..."[Maj Samuel ‘Rally’ Chipman, F-35 SPO] ‘I looked at the stats of how we are ‑fighting CAS in Afghanistan, and I know that this is a party-line answer, but the majority of CAS is not ­flown by the A-10. It is ­flown by platforms that have fewer rounds than the A-10. In fact, a lot of them don’t have a gun. Day after day, we’ve executed CAS with zero rounds, so I ‑find it difficult to get wrapped around the axle of playing the numbers game between who has the most rounds.’

     

    As for loiter characteristics — the ability to stay low and slow enough to remain ‘eyes on’ the target — Chipman is not fazed by public criticism. ‘The sensor suite on the aircraft affords me a little more stand-off range, and speed is always relative to the threat, so if I am getting shot at, being able to stay fast is good. If I am offset to the threat, then I can slow down to where I am not going 0.9 Mach. The A-model has 18,000lb [8,165kg] internal gas, giving me at least a 1.5-hour loiter on a 200-mile [322km] radius — and that’s comparable to the A-10 if I am not using afterburner’. He continues, ‘It’s all about the threat. If I don’t need to get any closer than, let’s say, four to seven miles, I am going to stay at 18,000ft [5,486m] in my A-10 and be looking in my targeting pod to build a picture. I would do the same thing in the F-35, only I can stand offeven further.’

     

    To round off the trio, what about the extremely limited internal weapons loads? ‘What environment am I going in to?’ shrugs Chipman with his hands raised, palms out. ‘If we have troops on the ground and they are operating inside a ‘double-digit’ SAM ring, I am not going to have anything external because survivability is going to take the priority; stealth will be more important than weapons load. The same thing is true for the A-10 — I am not going to be up at 18,000ft, I am going to be at 100ft trying to talk to a JTAC over a ridgeline, unable to see the target until I am up and over that ridgeline. So, it’s a trade-off, as it always is in any tactical situation’. He concludes, ‘I have to be able to survive a contested environment in order to be able to affect the battle on the ground. Once we’ve reduced that threat and the environment is more permissive, we now put four external pylons on the jet and carry just as many bombs as an Operation ‘Inherent Resolve’ combat-loaded A-10’....""

    This thing may cost the earth but nothing flying matches its capability in AA or AG...............guess you get what you pay for........... get over it people.

  2. The USAF are phasing the F-16 out according to one roadmap they have released by around 2025............as ever may be subject to change but they are holding back on some vital upgrades....of course no point wasting money if the replacement (F-35) is so superior.

     

    The A-10 has some areas of A-G it is very good at like CSAR but don't forget the F-16 was primarily A-G in USAF service from the start and has been and is superior in some A-G missions (Just like the F-15E).

     

    The C-130 is still around because it can still carry a useful cargo load.........aerial combat on the other hand has changed beyond all recognition from the 1970s driven by a massive change in technology.

    Release of DCS World 2.0.4 with DCS: NEVADA Test and Training Map Extension Pack

     

    Today we will be releasing the next update to DCS World 2.0, version 2.0.4. The primary addition to this update is the inclusion of the Extension Pack for the DCS: NEVADA Test and Training Range map. This extension includes 13 new airfields and several new cities and towns. One of the new airfields is Tonopah Test and Training Range airfield, that was home to the “Red Eagles” flying Russian-developed aircraft and the F-117A “Stealth Fighter” wing. This is a FREE extension pack to owners of the Nevada map. Enjoy!

    It's been a while since we last emailed you so we wanted to get in touch to give you a quick round-up of the CAP2 developments over the past few weeks.  Depending on where you have been following us you may already be aware of some elements.
     
    Latest version
    We are now at v809.1 which is currently live in the Beta and VR Beta channels and will transition to the default branch ASAP.  
     
    As well a couple of crash fixes, general bug squashing and copious minor improvements, the following are present in this build.
    • Steam launch options for 2D, OpenVR & Oculus.
    • New carrier with animated elevators, deck crane and deck tugs.
    • Air to Air refuelling - KC767 tanker with realistic hose physics.

    What's next?
    • Further v809 updates will include populated target ranges, updated MFD & radar displays together with RCS (Radar Cross Section) logic.
    • Cockpit updates are progressing well. Aside from modelling one of the major updates will be the mirror reflections. You'll be able to specify varying levels of reflection fidelity plus we're considering adding adjustable mirrors.
    • Automatic support for Thrustmaster MFD Cougar panels is also on the way.

  5. Few aircraft have captured my imagination like the Grumman A-6 Intruder, and the aircraft’s history is sprinkled with awesome obscurities, thrust vectoring nozzles being one of them. Over the decades, the type was adapted into a tanker (KA-6D), and suppression of enemy air defenses aircraft (A-6B), and, most famously, into the an outstanding electronic warfare platform (EA-6A and EA-6B), the latter of which still serves the USMC today. But lots of other sub-variants were built, and maybe the most intriguing is the A-6C.

    DCS: F-5E Tiger II Out of Early Access

    This past week Belsimtek resolved the remaining issues to bring the Tiger II out of Early Access status. These included:

    • Inverted spins have been simulated
    • UHF radio - Hinged access door will now open
    • AIM-9 tone will not be heard if both wingtips are gone
    • Landing gear audible warning will be heard when warning test switch is enabled
    • TACAN channel selector animation has been corrected
    • Fixed RWR sound issues with new contacts
    • Wing bend and twist due to G-loads has been corrected
    • Changing TACAN channel will not interrupt current radio chat
    • Input: Added some axis commands for TDC, rudder trim, lights etc.
    • With an F-5E air start, the aircraft will be trimmed to the assigned speed like it is implemented for all other aircraft
    • Aileron limiter now disabled at cold start
    • Single player missions added
    • Added inert and training stores
    • Added wing damage with high G overload
    • Drag chute cannot be fully deployed without an airstream
    • Drag chute model corrected

    DCS World 1.5.5 from Open Beta to Release Version

    Last week we released the Open Beta version of DCS World 1.5.5. You can read the changelog on the forum here.

    Based on both internal and external testing, we have decided to move version 1.5.5 from Open Beta to the release version today.

     

    You can download the complete installer from DCS site.

    If you already have DCS World 1.5 installed, please either run 1.5 to start the updater or manually update by selecting Update DCS World from your Windows Start Menu / Eagle Dynamics.

     

     

    DCS World 2.5 Update

    We have determined that the DCS World 2.5 update will not be available in 2016 as we had earlier hoped. This is mainly due to additional work needing to be done of the Caucasus map update, and we don't feel it can be accomplished within the next two months at a high level of quality. Before we can complete this map update, we first need to finalize and release both the Nevada map update and the Normandy map. Those, along with the Spitfire, are now our highest priorities. Once the Nevada update and the Normandy map tasks are complete, our map team can return to the Caucuses map and move the 2.5 closer to an Open Beta release.

    Also, please note that official information is only passed along through our Newsletter and press releases.

     

     

    Hornet Update

    As with the DCS World 2.5 update, it was also decided last week that the Hornet Early Access will be pushed beyond our original desire to release by the end of this year. As mentioned a couple of weeks ago, we are now very busy coding the various cockpit systems and flight dynamics. However, as this work continues and we acquire new information, the level of complexity has become more apparent and it will take more time than first estimated.

    When we do have significant news on the project to share, we will certainly do so. Once the Early Access for this project goes into pre-purchase, we will announce its release date then.
