Early Russian BVR Missiles and other useless additional weight
Snailman replied to InvalidTargetArea's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
I can say, yes ... in both good and bad meaning. Some blue weapons are much overrated, not intentionally but rather due to the game engine does not support post 80's technology. Countermeasures... we have just one type at a fixed value, CM resistance is a cumulative percentage (90% of 90% of 90% etc). Modders simply want to make a difference between modern equipment by giving 1% more CM resistance... over 90% it is no go. 100% value is simply godlike. Don't do it. Since it is proportional, the difference between 80% and 90% is almost double chance to hit. Also, adding more than one jammer system (of the same type) and adding more than 2 chaff/flare dispenser (or the same type) also breaks the fragile balance of "effectiveness system". -

@Emperor Use the RSSW pack, even tho it is Red Side but includes AIM-9B as well, part of the Rear60 fix I am experimenting with. @I.T.A. (sry for the abbreviation))) Try this. Use strictly stock enemies and use a clean install of the Red Side Standard Weapons. At least AAMs can be considered final in RSS. I am doing the SAMs at the moment. You may use RSSW compatible test planes, which are stock planes with original data but with modified loadout and added cockpit to be flyable. You have been using many mods, and it is hard to say which is erratic. At the first look, I would say that you are firing SAHM (semi active homing) missiles under the minimum radar altitude, that means the radar track strength is way too weak. I propose you a test mission. Targets Tu-16 badger (early with no jammer or CM) at 10000meters or more. Don't use R-40 series against fighters, they can easily outmaneuver them. Check and note the distance where they appear on the radar. If you are using RSSW, I will know the data of the missiles. Please look for the data.ini file from the MiG-25 you are playing, tell me the DetectSystem section, the RadarSearchRange RadarSearchStrength RadarTrackRange RadarTrackStrength values. Do the same with Avionics.ini there are the same values there as well (if we are lucky they are the same) and also check for RadarMinimumAlt value. Believe me NOTHING was as bad as the AA-2 Atoll, stock version. out of 2000 launches, less than 5 hits (straight flying dumb AI bug). Now, IF you launch from a proper situation, surprise, and from the optimal distance, you have a good chance of hit before the target could enter a high G turn usually 1000-1200meters. It is, the most important weapon in the game, as red you have almost nothing else to shoot with.. and if you play blue, you need enemies which can actually do harm to you... )) I might throw together a test MiG-25... well I did test the Acrids for RSSW so my version of the MiG-25 must be correct. -

For evaluating missile performance we need to know - Which plane (mod) you used - against what target (mod?) - which missile (weapon pack) version used (perhaps my RSS pack?) in what situation (launch window, altitude etc) Beware that the current MiG-25 mod might be using faulty radar data (range/strength, minimum altitude) - all of which will be revised in all red aircraft. Missile hit depends on a lot of factors... And not only from the missile data (CM resistance, Noise resistance, reliability% and lock on% etc etc) but radar performance (Search range/str formula AND Track range/str formula) Even the best missile cannot hit if it is guided by a radar from the plane and it is poorly performing (bad data settings) -
SF2 Inactive SAMs Issue
Snailman replied to Mike Dora's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Most interesting, because missileobject ini contains nothing which could be affecting missile operation... it contains effects and environment variables which has nothing to do with unit placement. SAM target areas are messed up sometimes. Faulty placement is caused by mostly the unit availability dates - radar has correct date but it's missile launcher does not. or vice versa. Or the SAM area is faulty. First try stock SAM. Then try mods... like RSSW type missiles which were corrected. Damn that I have no time right now... (((( -
SF2 Inactive SAMs Issue
Snailman replied to Mike Dora's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
No. The ground unit type belongs to the unit data.ini. the target type belongs to the targets.ini Between them are the types.ini which defines target classes from unit classes. Here you can define a target out of every unit. Also there is the SAM RADAR and SAM LAUNCHER targets, which are generated. If you override this, the bug kicks in what Wrench has described. Target generation chooses from the nations which are available on the map (nations.ini), out of that nation, equipment which is available by date will be randomized on the SAM / AAA sites which are also available (active) on that date. Both the SAM RADAR and LAUNCHER have to be available. EW RADAR also but those are not requirement to the SAM site to "work". Note that unit availability class (COMMON, VERY_RARE etc) seems to work in conjunction with each other - like a priority class. I noticed that if all available units are very_rare then they have the same chance of appearance like if all units were COMMON... not sure about this, anyone else noticed? -
SF2 Inactive SAMs Issue
Snailman replied to Mike Dora's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
To add to this a few thoughts... For example on the IsraelME the reds have SAM only on dates when historically "something" happened. In the meantime, equipment and map object appearance dates have many leaks, when nothing is placed. Many of us try to fix this (some fellow modders research locations and dates). I am working on equipment, but freetime is limited till RL calms down. So I can't promise anything yet, but maybe a public beta test version maybe. -
SF2 3DS Max Tutorials...
Snailman replied to SidDogg's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
Well I have some experience in almost every part of SF2 modding (but FM) but I would also participate in such. More modelling mapping etc skills can save time and nerves (both are scarce here..) I can also tell stuff I know... put together the knowledge. -
Looking for people to work with.
Snailman replied to Sasin's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Floggers will be reworked very soon. Weapons are all done. We have cockpit, we have models. We have tons of skins. FM will be done as well. -
Happy New Year to everyone in the east, west, north and south!!! Here already 2017 for two hours already... getting drunk pretty fast. LOL

10 steps of anti-terrorist defence of the EU.

THAT proves they are fake terrorist working for a government! IF they were real terrorists they would yes, attack the government, military bases, infrastructure. Hitting the small people is only manipulation of the public opinion.
-
This is how the merkel stole Christmas.. .eh. They even steal my work, goddammit ... we don't have to stand on the border to "guard the EU" - the vermin are being imported by planes directly from where they breed...

nukes blow up aircraft...is there a fix?
Snailman replied to dannavy85's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
there are two fixes to help in this... first is to check if the warhead is correctly set. some nukes are over powered (for a 10K one it IS overpowered indeed if you can't escape - now imagine a megaton one, or the Tsar bomb). I know that blast effect is (like many other things) are "strange" in SF2.. but. 1e+007 means, 1 and 7 zeroes. 10.000.000 kilograms=10Kt. The second is a break chute. With large bomb it's your only chance. the bomb has to be set up with a large Drag area multiplier (that increases drag when the chute is open). Needless to say bomb needs the Retarded flag checked. Also check the base Drag (subsonic AND supersonic as well) which should not be a default 0.1 or 0.2. If you release when supersonic, the supersonic drag counts, till it slows down. Both is important.. while I'm not sure the "chute" can actually slow the bomb in the vertical against gravity, but certainly slows it in the horizontal vector - that should create a big enough difference between you and the released bomb. -
I envy and miss that Drill Sgt. attitude. In fact I work in a (or in the) training center.. our youth would deserve the treatment. For our common good.

Looking for Original SF2 Effects Files
Snailman replied to Mike Dora's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Hi MIke. Look for the PARTICLESYSTEM.INI extracted from SF2/Flight/Flightdata.cat (If I remember correctly) these are not in the Object CATs. -
Oh my god... All of it sound like a joke. Except the F-35 which is a bad joke. history repeats itself again and again but the imbeciles are not capable of learning. EDIT. and they left out the F-16 carrying containers.. which is the best of all jokes)

How to add a SAM battery to a map?
Snailman replied to Stratos's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
RSS compatible SA-2 has availability from the real world, so you might want to modify the nations.ini for you own needs. I have to endure two more workdays, then this will be the first stuff I will update. -
How to add a SAM battery to a map?
Snailman replied to Stratos's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
Need to know the type what are you trying to add. also check nations and availability. If it's about SA-2, then new patch will be released in Dec. As soon as I can take my holidays at last -
What makes you think this was done by human hands? And if so is it intentional "terrorism" or just carelessness? Greece was burning in 2008... no one mentioned terrorism. California used to burn as well quite often.. EDIT: Sry I did not read the second link, it failed to load for the first time. Well I still think this it's governmental panic making (as usual). Natural catastrophe "tuned up" with some staged cases. Anyways it is horrible and I really wish this to end very soon!!

How random is the mission generator?
Snailman replied to fedace101's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Factor that control appearing stuff: 1. Unit data.ini (Availability timeframe DATE to DATE, NATION, availability flag RARE, COMMON etc.) 2. Unit userlist.ini (IF and WHEN that nation has that unit. This overrides data.ini dates and availability or both origin nation and export as well) 3. Map nations.ini (IF that nation is present on that map at all) From these the game makes a list and chooses. Not that availability is a priority value, so if everything is set to VERY_RARE there will be no difference - as something must be chosen. In case of air defence units, many very_rare equipment may cause empty AAA or SAM sites. -

You mean KKK? I think they are just tools to get black votes for the other side. You know the effect of anti-advertisement ... or reverse-advertisement (sry language probs here).

Thanks for the info! I did not hear of this. I like to see stuff from all possible aspects. What I meant was not really about Nam, it was about the FED and stuff like that. The last 103 years (since Wilson, whom we Hungarians particularly "remember" well) of US is not something bright, for what we adored the "old" USA ... sry I can't tell it better in English. No offense intended of course! Geez... there are way too many refugees and "democrats" there already Sooo. The US people are like us. They are not voting on someone, but against... they want and expect change. I lost a hard bet. Also that defies my thinking - to this point - on pre-decided presidency by the elite. We will see however IF the new president will be different or will be doing the same thing like the other one would (be ordered to) do. I admit if I am wrong... in this case if Im wrong that means we still have hope.
