OFFworld: Persistent Online Campaigns for OFF/WOFF
MudWasp48 replied to Lothar of the Hill People's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Thanks for the reply. That does sound like a good time with the two seaters. A basic question on two seaters... when I go to the gunners' seat, I can only control the gun movement by flightstick or throttle wobbly thing Is there a way to use the mouse to aim the the rear gun? So the PvE would let me play single player, but require the data from the mission to be uploaded whie I'm playing?- 27 replies

I like flying the Feb2, just staying inside the gunners arc of fire, but it is odd not hitting a gunsight and firing. That guy has two guns he can fire! He pretty good at smacking them home when I dive under a fighter. I'll have to try out the Dh-2 in the future. No rush, I'll take my time enjoying all this SIM has to offer. Can't remember where I read it, one of the tips threads, but I'm off to listen to the voices of the men that flew Roll the credits.....!!!! -

The USB, "thumb drive", that held the download, Flash Drive, umm, ah, hmmm, (sounding like a policians', sporksman now), there are other names for them It looks like a malfunction. Other drives work. never had one fail before. This one is dead. The other USB flash drive holds HitR is good Just need to get a new/another copy and have it saved to a device I can take home. Not a problem with your work, just the media that it was saved on. Lothar, I enjoy the two seaters. There is not much in the campaign stock that recognizes bomb runs and hitting targets. It's all about downing enemy aircraft. Is there anything in your mod that adresses this? Not a HUGE issue. It just sucks flying a bombing run, kicking butt on ground targets, avoiding the enemy fighters, and making it home with no claim form recognition. It would be great to have a low chance of living through flying a mission to bomb a target of great importance, and have that scaled against an easy hit the enemy airfield just over the mud. Maybe an important shipment or official is on a train that is moving, that kinda stuff. No problems with your mods, just the device I stored them on is junk...- 27 replies

Those crazy pusher planes. I haven't tried a DH2 campaign. I do like the Feb2, it's just so odd, with the pack of smokes sliding along the cockpit shelf. It can be tore up later in the war easily, but if ya know how to fly it so the gunner does his job, it's fair. Just strange flying with no forward gunsight -
Does anyone have any TrackIr5 profiles they would like to share?

Yeah, I'd though about that too. Also, "Hey Guys, can you spare some fuel?", Damm, between you and Olham, I may have to buy some reading material.

A neighbor, (he lives 1.75 miles away), hooked up to Hughes Net last year. What a piece of crap that is. On a crystal clear day a flock of geese can cause it to loose signal and it takes much time to get it's sheet together again. There is also a daily cap on how much he can use. He came over to my house a few times this winter to access Gmail. For now, I'm thrilled with the offline campaign. Thinking about going to OFFice. Had a friend D/L it last week, but haven't had time to get ducks in a row. Now I see there is a new version...... What do I need to back-up before installing OFFice and how do I do it? I just don't want to ruin the good thing that I got going on now.- 27 replies

Computer Hardware and OFF/WOFF (split from screenshots thread)

WoooHooo! Got a good price on an Asus GTX 660 Ti Top 2GB and it arrived today. I beat the UPS man home and even had time to clean my PC before he hit my place. It's installed and running correctly. I'm heading offline off to fly OFF and see what differences I experience from my GTX 550 TI OC Cold beer in da fridge, Walleye thawing along with some venison for a late dinner. Life is good. -

Found the "open bomb bay" command and assigned a joystick button for it even though it isn't needed to drop bombs. Looks well modeled when observing from float view. -
Eating dogs is taboo in most cultures. Might be becuse they also use them for hunting, protection, and they kinda become a family member. Horses are another animal that is a last resort for most cultures. Never heard of the term "Roof-Rabbits" before. Post WWII Berlin must have been horrible. I recall some footage of a 3rd or 4th level apartment building, just barely standing with one whole side exposed and a pile of brick rubble below and a woman either tiding up or eating, carring on as best she could. My Granparents were young adults in the "Great Depression". I learned much from them, most of that seems out of place in todays world of disposable everything.

The Rolands concern me more than non-Boelcke EIIIs. I enjoy flying them, Rolands, but no bomb load and endless recon missions bore me. That makes sense about the Sop Strutter. I observed a bomb drop from float view, didn't see any doors open, bombs just fell from the fuselage. -

Oh Man! I tangled with Oswald Boelcke and I'm still skaking! He pounced on the wrong flock of Sopwith Strutters with his squad of EIIIs. I didn't know an EIII could maneuver like that. I finally caught him in a climb and killed the pilot, then destroyed his plane as he flew straight away in a repetive climb drop fashion. It was May 28th noonish time and we were returning from bombing a German airfield. I don't see bombs on my plane when I'm loaded with them. Did that plane have a bomb bay? After I destroyed him, the Rolands he must have been escorting tag teamed me accross the mud line. I got 1 of them, but they crippled my plane. I did manage to glide on to the nearest friendly field which was under bombardment. Landed ok, but the engine is toast. -
My grandparents called pigeons... "City Chicken". I didn't find out until many years later that the "City Chicken" meal Grandma was famous for was actually pigeon that Grandpa had "plunked" with his pump pellet pistol.

Olham, That's kinda tragic that the sparrows were hit hard by the pidgeon poison. Maybe the rabbits had mange? Around here it is common to see birds eating fast food scaps in fast food parking lots. Some people feed them. I'll never forget seeing a huge 10 point buck doing the same. The kicker was that I had spent the cold wet morning hunting deer in the forest and seen NOTHING. The running joke that year and for a few years there after was to pack french fries when heading out on a deer hunt.
-
Olham, Rabbits are good eating. Is there a legal way to "harvest" a bunny while in the park? I'd be inclined to take a morning stroll in the park and return with a bag O'bunnies. How is the city dealing with the over population? Years ago I watched a news show out of Buffalo, NY dealing with the topic of deer over populion with in the city suburbs. Many people were for a limited hunt and some very opposed to controlled hunts in the parks. I couldn't stop laughing when one opponent to hunting suggested contraception. Not in the form of birth control in the food, but actual condoms. The city wound up allowing a few limited archery hunts and relocating many of the remaining deer.

No armadillos around here, so I don't have any experience with them. My dogs love hunting woodchucks which can tear up my garden real fast. What sort of damage do armadillos do?

scramble mission flying DFW C.V.
MudWasp48 replied to rjw's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
I was in the process of cleaning up my grammar and typing when Mozilla crashed. such is life on dial-up. Thunderstorms are in the distance now. I went to town and purchased flour and surar amoungst many other things on the list. The Rhubarb is up and I'm craving a pie. Too early for fresh strawberries yet. Gunner left me his morning kill on the porch. A large female woodchuck. I'll skin it, bone it, jerk the meat, and have treats. WOW! Crazy thunder and the difference from sight to sound is decreasing. Gotta love spring storms! -
scramble mission flying DFW C.V.
MudWasp48 replied to rjw's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
I was curious about MFFA missions in the OFF campaign. Do they attack shipping? Is there shipping to attack? Flew that scramble mission again. Ai aggression was historical and I was not flight leader because I wanted to observe and experiment some. Odd thing; this time approx 9 sopwith strutters were opposing our 5 DFW. The DFWs flew a slowly expanding tringle while gaining height. The sops didn't engage and remained very high. I steadily gained altitude and just waited for them to engage. It was an odd sort of circle dance with no one taking the lead. After approx 35 minutes with no engagement I decided to dive and target the leader of the primary flight of strutters. Four quick bursts sent him into flames and all hell broke loose. The tangle of two seaters had begun! I regained the altitude advantage and hit the "h" button a few times. My squad headed my way to help but were at an altitude disadvantage, I dove on the tail plane of the primary flight of stutters, killing the tail gunner. (love hearing the confirmation yell/scream/ouch sound), and then blew off a the lower left outer wing. Keeping my speed I flew towards my 4 squad members that were climbing to help. Just before meeting them I pulled hard back on the stick, gained altitude, and flew a tad off to the left waiting to see how the AI engaged each other. It wasn't like a typical dogfight at first, they seemed to remain more in a defensive/tight formation and not seperate into individual dogfights. While all this is going on the other flight of strutters is still not engaging and flying a LARGE diameter circular pattern at very high altitude ove the area. As always the fight looses altitude and now the snow and wind increase in intensity, it is January. I stay out of the mix for a bit and watch the 4 on 3 engagement. It didn't last long. I'm guessing that is because the Ai was set to historical, I don't know. So now I have the altitude and dive on the 3 strutters from the 11 O'clock. Three sort burts into the first and it is on flames with the crew jumping, couldn't target the second, put two short burts into the third causing the engine to smoke heavily. While all this in going on in the virtual OFF world, the predicted thunderstorms have arrived in the real world. Lilly, my petite beagle has jumped into my lap forcing me to pause the game. She is a shivering shambles of the woodchuck kille and rabbit hunter she is real life. Now her now adult lab mix pups father by "go home stupid black dog" , Gunner and Bella, are howling as loud as they can. Lilly licks my face and shivers uncontrolably as I hug her and say, "Good Girl, your Safe". Then the power goes out. Lucky for me I purchased a "UPS" a few years ago. It's basically a power back-up for the PC. Saved me from big issues and even let me continue to fly IL2 with the RAF_74 back in the day as the internet connection is landline dialup which isn't always shut down by a power outage. The computer is running my hounds want IMMEDIATE attention and the power is off and I'm playing OFF. I howled "Pass the ammuniton and praise the Lord", Lilly quit shivering and joined in and we all howled. Then I loudly authoritely told them to STIFFLE, went to the fireplace mantle, took down some oil lamps and light them. Feed the dogs some "treats" made from their bring home kills of woodchucks, possoms, coons, and beaver. Now I could go back to the game. Decided just to land at my airbase which was very close. Cut the engine early and just glided down. This bird can glide. Shut down my computer, ate some of the beaver jerky, lit a pie and cracked open a homebrew. There is another thread going on about being late to the party. I'm late too, but it's the best party I've seen in years. This party doesn't require high speed internet, and I can even play it in a power outage with my hound dogs in this rural hunting cabin that is my home. -
Aha.... That is better! Thanks.

Louvert, it finally loaded and I was able to see about 1/4 of it before my connection crapped out. I'll try again sometime. Where did the Egypt mod come from?

scramble mission flying DFW C.V.
MudWasp48 replied to rjw's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Good Morning rjw, I've flown that mission 3 times. Workshop settings change things; Ai skill, ground gunnery, regional air activity were the ones I tinkered with 1st time I was slow in taking off and didn't clear the field before my plane was crippled and forced down. medium density setting, aggressive AI, easy ground gunnery. My pilot was hospitalized. That pilot was later captured for the duration of the war and I restarted the campaign with aother pilot. 2nd time I set density to light, Ai to historical, and ground gunnery to hard. Flew in the same manner you described with the same result. 3rd time I elected to refly last mission and changed the regional air activity to heavy. When in the briefing room I noticed the "air start" box and decided to see what difference that would make. First and only time I've used it. What a furball lay ahead of me. Many, many nieuports were already engaged with bombers and albatrosses (albatri??) at varius levels of elevation. I was able to destroy 1 nieuport and cripple 2 more before being damaged and forced to land at my airfield. That was the only time I've used the air start. I don't think I'll do so again. That scramble mission made no sense and I just wanted to see how setting could impact it. Since then I've reformated my ssd and upgraded my windows OS. Didn't save any pilots. Haven't started a pilot in that campaign yet, but will do so. Not sure how I'll handle the situation when it arrives. -
Stalls are a XxxxxZzz!!!!! I remember back in my early IL2 days flying the P-39 with my online squad and practicing inverted flatspin recovery. Finally became competent to recover abot 90% of the time. Altitude is a big factor though and dogfights always seem to wind up near the mud. The video doesn't want to load for me....damm slow internet

Javito, it is very cool both in looks and temps. The extra two 200 color shift fans make it feel like AC blowing. There are also screens for easy cleaning! The top mounted hot-swap hard drive dock is very convenient as are the hard drive bays. I first ordered two extra fans not made by thermaltakethat were the correct size, but the mounting holes didn't match up. I've read good reviews about the CM 212. Just like the looks of the Zahlman coolers better. So far the stock AMD CPU cooler that came with the 8350 has done way better than I anticipated even OCing to 4.8GHz. I'm sure the case has much to do with that. Tamper, I didn't notice a FPS increase with the ssd, but like you, I did experience faster loading times and a noticeable decrease in miro-stutters. CPU; AMD 8350 4.2 turbo OCed to 4.8Ghz Mobo; Asus Sabertooth 990 fx r2 ram; 32GB matched Muskin ddr3 1600 redline extreme Hard drive; Adata 256 Gb ssd sx 900, 1TB WD 7200 black sata 3 for backup GPU; Asus ENG 550GTX Ti 1Gb PS; Kingwin 1000watt Windows 7 pro 64 bit CH pro pedals and throttle, and my trusty old Logitech 3D extreme that just won't die TrackIr5... wooohooo
