@ Wrench...speaking of a loooonnng time ago...
TSMcQueen posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Prop Heads Forum
I just recently downloaded your Solomans V3 update. Excellent!! Yeah...I missed about 3 years worth of "stuff". LOL and prior to that I was heavily into FE. I always seem to go back to my original flight sim passion... WWII . So here I am again...albeit a bit lost and "reinventing the wheel" it seems. -

Natural Metal skin for AD's Oscar?
TSMcQueen posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Prop Heads Forum
Hey folks. Is there a natural metal skin for AD's Ki-43? Can't seem to find one. Since they all left the factory unpainted, it would make a great "canvas". Unfortunately I don't know enough about the "mechanics" of paint programs to make my own, but I can sling a paintbrush. -

Thanks for the reply. I have one for Wolf's but his is a latter model 43II I think. Wandering through the files I will go. -
Interesting research on Oscar.

http://www.j-aircraft.com/research/rdunn/nakajima_ki43arm.htm If the data is correct the author comes to a reasonable conclusion, IMHO. So, crack open those K-43 data.inis and change one of the 7.7's to "12.7MM_Ho103". Limit MaxAmmo= to 300. As the 2 - 7.7mm versions were fairly common, you can copy and rename the "1 & 1" version Ki-43Ib or something to differentiate the 2. -
DAT B-26b and 06 level installs...
TSMcQueen posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Prop Heads Forum
Ok...I did a "search". Didn't find anything so sorry if this has been asked about before...I'm sure it has. Is there a fix out there to get the DAT B-26b working in an 06 level install? It is causing CTDs and I really NEED a B-26. TIA! -

Thanks for all the replies. Its the Martin B-26 version I was interested in, not the Douglas. :) -

Raven. Its the ATeam B-26B. I just got it off their site a few days ago. It DOES work in my 08 level installs...just not @ the 06 patch level. -

Thanks for the replies. Gatling20...no go. I had already tried just one lod , but not that particular combination. Raven...starting in air. CTD at 100%. This is on the new WWII Euro map. Base size is set to Medium. -
Unpainted "objects" in older terrains?
TSMcQueen posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
Hey ya'll...its me Tailspin. I've been messing around with some older terrains and different installs like KAW and the EAWEuroWWII terrains. I'm seeing solid white objects like shorline "docks" and river bridges. Apparently there are no texture bmp's/tga's in the terrain folders for these objects? In fact I can't find any reference to these things in the terrain files. Any ideas how to fix this? I'd just as soon remove them altogether...especially to replace the bridges with actual target types. I never was much of a terrain modder so have no idea if possible or where to begin. Help? -

True. I've added "timed fuze" versions of the 20mm's and a 37mm Flak gun...modded Fubar's 57mm Flak effect (smaller bursts and different sound) for the 20's. Still have tracer firing guns too so you get a mix of tracers and flak. IMO it adds to the visual effect of more flak....especially when every damned gun in the target area is shooting at YOU! LOL. -

The version of the old terrain I have has some files dated 05 but the water effects don't work. With your new terrain, everything works fine...just has the brighter yellow/greenish color at the beach line. But what the heck, the terrain is not built for SF1. A minor distraction if anything. :D BTW...Wrench, great work on the new terrain. With the old terrain I had started working on modifying AAA around targets, etc. With your terrain, I find that is not necessary. :D Lol...If you don't give your AI buddies the RTB call after a couple of passes on a target, they will die. :D -

Yes, I just used what Wrench posted. The sea/land transitions still look the same as in the pic I posted. I haven't had time to see if experimenting with the offset values makes a difference yet. Still a VAST improvement over the old terrain overall. -

Ahh...thank you Sir. That got the water animation and reflections back. -

Well this is what it looks like. There were whole tiles around the rivers that looked similar...turning down the water effects to LOW fixed that. I haven't done anything but comment out the effect shader lines. Yes, its a compromise but I ain't complainin'. :D -

Yay! I got the SF2 EAWEuro terrain working acceptably (for me at least ) in my SF1 '06 install. Killed all the shader effects...but works. :D Just a little bleeding/bright colored areas along the coasts. Much, much better map!! Thanks Kevin! -
Excellent! :D

:D Thanks Wrench! Good to be back. Well I am mainly interested in WWII Euro. and trying to use what I have on hand from way back when. ;) I currently have a 43-44 version going with the appropriate attack aircraft etc. I was thinking more along the lines of just editing out those objects on the existing old terrains. I will have to look into the new terrain and see what I can do. Or...I suppose I could just get SF2 and enjoy the work you have already done. Thanks again. -

Thank you gents. Ehh...I just realized I'm in the wrong forum. Mine are SF 1 installs. TOD's huh? Sooo...no way to edit them? -
For 2 years I lived about 1.5 miles from the front gate to Hurlbert Field (AFSOC Headquarters). About every weeknight you could hear and watch the AC's (nav lights were on of course) circling the range and firing their guns. Seems like they took turns with different weapons systems on different nights. One night it would be the "belching" of the 25mms. The next time the thump of the 40mms. Then the 105s...both the firing of the gun and the impact on target. Also saw lots of Ospreys and former Soviet block helicopters flying up and down the coast and Santa Rosa Sound. Cool place to live. :D

AAA guns Tracers or Airburst? ...or both.
TSMcQueen posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Hey folks. :D Been out of the loop for a few years. Just recently getting back into the SF/WO* world. Being gone for so long I have no idea if this idea has already been discovered...wouldn't be the first time I've reinvented the wheel... Ha! Anyway, here goes. I do not like flying over target areas that ought to be well defended by AAA. Its boring. :D So I've added almost every AA gun available to the game. ZPUs, ZSUs, ZUs, M1939, KS-12, KS-19, KS-30, etc. Then of course, Fubar512's 57mm Flak Effect. Very nice medium air burst effects for the 23-57mm class weapons. I've actually made a smaller version for the 23mms. :D Which brings us to the point. Seems we are left with a choice of either a TRACER effect OR an AIR BURST effect. Not both. Check the "timed fuse" box in the Gun editor...no tracers. Uncheck...tracers, no airburst. Here's what I did and it works very well with multiple gun mounts. Simply copy the gun in question in the Gun Editor. Rename it by adding a single letter. For example. The ZSU-57 uses the 57mm_S68 cannon. Copy it in the Gun editor and change the name to 57mm_S68T. Uncheck the "timed fuse" box and you have a tracer fireing 57mm gun. :D NOW...go to your ZSU 57 data.ini and change one of the guns to 57MM_S68T. On gun shoots air burst shells, the other tracers. I have also increased the burst amounts and tracer loading to compensate. For the 57mm ...tracer loading is 1 (every round is a tracer) the burst amount is 6. Works just as well for the multi barreled 23MMs too. The only difference being in how you adjust the burst and tracer loading for the much higher ROF of the 23's. You can also make different versions of the single barreled guns like the S60 and the 37mm M1939, The Bofors gun...just copy the entire Ground Object, rename it accordingly and make the "new" gun in the Gun Editor... you get the idea. :D You'll get a random mix of both types in the game. Note for the historically correct purists...YES, I do know that most of the smaller calibers did not really, technically, fire a Flak Burst shell and it was actually a self destruct mechanism to prevent live rounds from falling back to earth. But it sure look cool in the game. :D -
