  1. Razbam's SF1 planes can be made to work in SF2, but the Stary's Vietnam Green Hell 2, and his German terrain here at CombatAce look a lot better than Razbam's Vietnam and German terrains. As for Korea, a new Korean Campaign with both planes and terrains will be post here at Combat soon as they work out the Exp2 bugs.
  2. New Terrains for FE 2?

I'm sorry if I confused you. The CAT files are part of the game, and they are TK's condensed files. If you ever use the CAT File Extractor, you will see all the individual files that are condensed in each of the different CAT files. Since the CAT files are part of the game, you leave them in the original game locations. You just put all your mods up in the game's created mod folder, like Jan's Terrains.
  3. New Terrains for FE 2?

Do not feel to bad, it took me a while to get his terrains to work too. Until I figured out that nothing is suppose to go into the original FE2/SF2 game folders, I had CTD's too. A big help is going to the SF2 Knowledge section and reading how SF2 handles mods, since FE2, is just the WW1 version of TK's game.
  4. New Terrains for FE 2?

I repeat, nothing and I mean nothing goes into any 2nd Gen Thirdwire original game folders, period. If you do, it creats problems. TK's 2nd Gen games create a mod folder someplace else, and that is where you put all your changes/mods. In XP, the FE2 mod folder location is: My Computer / Documents and Settings / User / My Documents / ThirdWire / FirstEagles2
  5. My new Gaming Only rig

You are correct in that you do not need a paging file with 12 GB of RAM until you do. What I mean is there are some programs that absolutely demand a paging file, no matter how much RAM you have. Unfortunely, you do not know which ones they are until you get a CTD because the program will not operate. This is why on my i7 Win7 gaming machine with 12 GB of RAM, I still have a paging file.
  6. I have an OC'ed i7 975 (3.75 GHz), ATI Crossfire 4970's and with High details in WOV, I get 25 FPS on the runway with an F-4 (with radar on) and Green Hell 2 terrain. But I get 50 FPS with the same F-4 (radar on), same runway, and same Green Hell2 terrain using SF2V with better settings. Bottom line, is that the 1st Gen games are a lot harder on your FPS than the 2nd Gen (which are made for multicore PC's).
  7. New Terrains for FE 2?

Spad13: To answer your question, yes, Jan's terrains work just fine in FE2. To start with, you did not say what operating system you are using, two where did you put his terrains ??? ALL Thirdware Second Generation games use a mod folder, for example look under the C:User/Saved Games/Thirdwire/ FirstEagles2. as a result, you put Jan's ferrain folders inside the Terrains folder in the FirstEagles2 mod folder, not inside the game folder. Tk created this method so you never have to touch the original game folders, everything now goes into the mod folder (as mentioned above), unlike the original FE1 game. My FirsttEagle2 mod folder looks like this: C:/User/Saved Games/Thirdwire/FirstEagles2/Terrains/ with the folowing folders under Terrains = Flanders, seasonal_tiles, Vogesen, wwiCambrai, wwiVerdun
  8. I know SF2 Exp2-B loads & plays fine in my SF2 Combo-Exp1-Exp2 game, but has anybody tried loading it over their individual SF2, SF2V and SF2I/Exp1 games. Since my individual games have lots of additional mods, I would still like the Quad Core support and new mission editor that is in Exp2 for those games, but I do not want to mess all my individual SF2/V/I games up by overlaying it with Exp2 and have bad things happen. I tried just coping the new appropriate ".exe's" into the individual games, but that just caused an instant CTD, so obiously there is a lot more I need to install from the EXp2 than just the .exe to get Quad core support. Any help would be appreciated.
  9. First Eagles Newbie

ThirdWire games are normally patched to the latest patch when sold, if not go here and download the latest FE1 patch: http://www.thirdwire.com/downloads.htm You did not say if your FE1 was the Gold version or not. If it is the Gold version, you have all the "official" FE planes, now you just need to add any additional planes that are located here at CombateAce. The main difference between FE1 and FE2 is that FE1 was originally made for single core PC's, were FE2 is made to support multicore PC's. As a result, if you have a multicore PC, FE2 runs faster (about twice as fast on my i7 PC) than FE1, plus FE2 have DX10 capabilities (better detail graphics), but game wise both are pretty much the same.
  10. When I fly a MiG over North Vietnam in SF2V and press M, I have no problems. You may have a corrupted file/game and may need to reload the game to see if that is the problem.
  11. Wrench: Unfortunately it's a NO-Go when it comes to SF2 and SF2V. Exp2 will not update those games because it says that it can not find "Strike Fighters 2 Europe". As a result, it stops in mid-update and just hangs there. What do I do now for those games ???
  12. Thank you sir, that is exactly what I needed to know. You might want to add this to the SF2 Knowledge Base because I suspect others will have the same question.

  14. I have built my own PC's and I have bought PC's in the past and the best deals that I ever got was from this company: https://www.cyberpowerpc.com/ Since buying from them the first time several years ago, I have kept coming back to them sence they offer the "best bang for the buck" out of all the PC sites that I checked before buying and I have had zero problems with any of their PC's that I bought. As you can tell, they can build you just about any PC combo that you desire and a very, very reasonable price.
  15. Microsoft Security Essentials

Parky: I really want to thank you. I was using TrendMicro Anti-Virus with my Win7 64bit, but it was causing some my games to hang sometimes when I started them as well as certain files when I would try to open them. Once I switched to over M$ Security Essentials, ALL these problems went away, so now my PC operates as smooth as before I installed TrendMicro Anti-Virus. As for Free Firewalls, ZoneAlarm has a free firewall that works fantastic (MS Firewall is not much good for anything).
  16. Clouds

It sounds like you are using a FE1/SF1 sky mod. FE2/SF2 uses some different code in it's files for DX10 use. You need a sky mod like I made for it to work in FE2/SF2.
  17. Could the original two Vogensen planning maps be corrupted ??? You might need to delete and reload/download these two maps to see if that may be the problem.
  18. Nieuport 16 familly

Did you mean to say that this Nieuport 16 mega pack is for FE2 or is it really for FE1 ???
  19. Nieuport 16 familly

    Please
  20. You can have two different types of campaigns in IL-2 1946. The first type are what you could consider as "canned" (or fixed), and these consist of a number of "fixed" missions strung together as a campaign. The second are dynamic campaigns. These consist of a campaign that creats a dfferent mission each time based on a random mission file that only has locations, begining date, ending date, types of missions, types of planes involved and final objective. As a result, no two missions are ever the same in the dynamic campaign.
  21. A game/terrain ? for everyone...

Since I'm a long time player of the TK series, I have the SF1 '06, '08, FE1 '08 and the current FE2 & SF2 series, that way I can play anything. But if you are asking, it's probably best to include the whole package for all the newcomers that do not have all the past SF1/SF2 items necessary for some mods.
  22. Go here any they have a huge package of new (FREE) IL-2 aircraft: http://ultrapack.il2war.com/index.php/board,7.0.html?PHPSESSID=imiq8gjja2n6f15b2c8dep1hj2
  23. But it will work if you convert the SF2 Unicode files to the SF1 Ansi code. There is a thread in the SF2 Knowledge Base on how to do it (you either individually convert all the Unicode files to Ansi or batch process them) and then you can use it in Sf1. http://combatace.com/topic/43234-how-to-make-a-sf2-aircraftweapon-useable-in-gen-1-thirdwire-sims/
