Personally speaking I have enjoyed Battlestations Pacific, Silent Hunter 3 and Silent Hunter 4 including the add-on games, and even though they are quite old now I still take them out for a spin on a regular basis. You know the drill, feel free to list your Top Ten games. Fire away!!!!

Okay say (or write) something neat, positive, or what you like about the C-130.
RUSTYMORLEY replied to Skyviper's topic in The Pub
Its Fat, its Ugly, its as slow as an overloaded camel, and it flies like a garden shed with wings - but a Hercules gets the job done!!!! -
Will Hayden (Son's Of Guns) arrested for child molestation charges.
RUSTYMORLEY replied to Skyviper's topic in The Pub
Speaking of Assholes I recently read in my Daily Paper that Cliff Richard was questioned about fondling a child and his house was raided by police for evidence. You know I always thought the guy was a bit of a bender, it could be that I was right!!! -
I liked Robin Williams and he was a comic first but a reasonably good actor as well. He will be sadly missed, perhaps he couldn't bear the thought of suffering and becoming less and less of a person as the Parkinsons disease takes over. Sorry to see him disappear from the world of entertainment.

FRPignon,You are probably right, I think that the very poor economic situation that exists in Britain at this moment which has also been compounded by the Austerity cuts which have been imposed by the government has forced us to reduce expenditure on military as well. We are basically skint!!!!
-
Only us Brits can mess up in such a way - building an aircraft carrier which will not have planes when it is ready for service!!! Rather like building a tank (Cromwell) in WW2 which had a pathetic gun that had no chance of penetrating an enemy Tiger!!! What the hell are we doing???

RUSTYMORLEY replied to Slartibartfast's topic in The Pub
russouk2004, sorry to go slightly off topic, but are you the guy that produced the F-84G Thunderjet mod for SF-1. This is one of my favourite planes and by the way thanks for making the mod. Just a brief question - Is it possible to change the sound of the machine guns as they sound a little bit lightweight to me!!!! -
28/07/1914... Austro-Hungary declares war on Serbia.
RUSTYMORLEY replied to Slartibartfast's topic in The Pub
It is always the people at the top - the politicians, the world leaders who call for war and set about whipping their own people into a frenzy and persuade them to attack a neighboring country or region whilst they themselves stay at home safe and sound and millions of us ordinary folk get killed on the battlefield. There is always some stupid, bad ass crazy nutter ready to start the next war!!!! -
Sites for strike fighters 1 plane skins
RUSTYMORLEY replied to DEVIL11's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I myself run this game but unfortunately Strike Fighters Series 1 is quite old and a bit out of date now and only a small handful of modders and Skinners continue to add new stuff to it!!!!! -
With the possible future marriage of a EM Railgun to a suitable high altitude fighter, does this mean we can intercept those Unidentified Flying Objects which enter earths atmosphere every couple of months and fly around in a controlled fashion and then leave the atmosphere later on - sometimes at unbelievable speeds!!!!!

North Korea threatens war on US over Kim Jong-un movie
RUSTYMORLEY replied to MigBuster's topic in The Pub
Quite frankly KimJong-un is a pratt and he can go and F@#k himself! -
Lexx_Luthor, although Kelly's Heroes was just a film and not based on any real historical engagement of WW2,it did of course contain some realistic and accurate references to Tank versus Tank engagements. Donald Sutherland who played the character 'Oddball'in the film was extremely nervous about engaging the Tiger tanks as he was all to well aware that his Sherman was vastly inferior to the Tiger. This fear was very evident during the battle for Normandy and the subsequent breakout as most allied Tank crews dreaded an encounter with a Tiger tank. Odball also indicated that the only way he could defeat the Tiger was to get in behind the Tiger and hit it from the rear. So again although just a film for a Saturday afternoon it did have some realistic moments in it. Well worth a watch every now and then!

City of Mosul falls to al Qaeda, 2 more cities fall
RUSTYMORLEY replied to MAKO69's topic in The Pub
I don't know whether to laugh or cry - first ISIS had all the headline news and now Al Qaeda are back in the game!!! It's like a competition with each-other to see who can score the most points!!! -
What about Babylon 5, the Minbari cruisers look like enormous fish.

macalena, not sure about that, but going back to the 76mm versus the standard 75mm gun argument, I am currently reading a Sherman pocketbook in which it states that it is desireble to have both 76mm armed Shermans and 75mm armed Shermans in the same troop as this provides a range of options for the response to a given situation. The 76mm armed Shermans would be in a better position to deal with enemy armour whilst the standard 75mm Sherman could more effectively deal with fortifications, emplacements and infantry attacks as it had a slightly higher rate of fire and a marginally bigger explosive HE charge.

I have read a couple of books about the exploits of some of the allied tank crews following the Normandy breakout and the subsequent drive to the Rhine. Some of the Tank versus Tank engagements were carried out at medium to long ranges which favoured the Tiger, but some were also carried out at extremely short ranges, as depicted in the film. This would be almost suicidal for the Sherman and it's crew, but perhaps mixing it up close would give the more manouverable Sherman an opportunity to get in behind the larger and heavier Tiger to execute a kill shot into the engine compartment. Unfortunately the odds were stacked in the Tiger's favour which enjoyed a kill ratio of about 8 to 1 against allied tanks on the western front. Shocking when you really think about it !!! Despite this, I am looking forward to the film. I have to confess that I didn't really think much of Brad Pitt as an actor until I saw the film TROY in which he played the Greek warrior Achillies. I was amazed by his portrayal of the troubled, almost demonic Greek warlord. Ever since then I have had more respect for him as an actor. Let's hope he can pull this one off
