New IL2 game
Stary replied to xclusiv8's topic in IL-2 Series / Pacific Fighters / Cliffs of Dover: General Discussion
I love the comment of one guy at SimHQ -the conspiracy that the COD was started as brand new "next gen" engine (2006 shots and vids) but then they realised they can't make it working so back-dated it using modified Il2 one. If you think about it, seems oddly reasonable given all the clues during the years... something went very very wrong with this title at some point few years ago -

No -one of my best plastic kits was Revell 1:72 Skoshi (some 17 years ago) -
I'm working on the Curtiss Hawk 75 cockpit (among other things) and I ran into several issues regarding current state of instruments implementation (Series 2 current level, merged) My questons are as follows: suction -any detail on this one? -using placeholder G-load instead cylinders temperature -is modelled? if so -what's the instrument name? prop pitch and mixture level -I guess CEM is not modelled right now? current tank (int/aux) selector? any use? voltage level? any use? I used it as accelerometer in my P-26 pit, so it moves slightly when pusching high G I will use whole sliding canopy as speed indicator (like in some other pits) meaning it will close at lets say 30 MPH -IF I model the rotation of the closing lever and I want to model that small wheel with chain too -should I link the meshes or use independent rotation controllers via separate instruments? Currently they're linked to port side EDIT: which is linked to starboard, quite messy hierarchy I have there TIA

radiator position could be linked to engine temperature, could work ok with radial engines -

Levels of detail...
Stary replied to ndicki's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - World War II Forum
truth is a lot of 3rd party models have only the highest (closest to viewpoint) levels of details, and with complex, detailed models it's impacting frametares BIG time -example being Veltro's Stirling -put a flight of four or five and it becomes unplayable -I had to remove it from my WW2 install :( The close formation flying and generally WW2 tight formations (bomber boxes) and airspeeds play key role in it too -planes close to each other, slow (compared to jet era) relative attack/pass speeds, makes the high detail, frame impacting models much more often drawn on screen, many of them -the only solution is to ask the modder who made the model to do much lower poly secondary LoDs (not so easy, and highly unpropable, often the creator's source max file is AWOL or modder won't have time will etc to do so) with modern GPUs with say >512 megs or VRam the skins format isn't that inportant -

File Name: Optional desert to mountains tiles for Piecemeal's Desert3 Update v1.2 terrain File Submitter: Stary File Submitted: 21 April 2011 File Category: SF2 Series Add On Terrains This little modification is my tweak to several textures from "ODS" Iraq/Piecemeal's Desert3 terrains. Created with "Updated Default SF2 Terrain by Piecemeal V 1.2" in mind, this pack changes the look of desert-to-mountain transitions tiles, making them much more sloped rocks thus standing out from surrounding sands. Tile-specific heightmap files (_HM) used to achieve more detailed mesh displacement. Matter of one's preferences, it's one of those not necessary optional mods ;) All the transition textures are based on work by Deuces for original ODS terrain, further used in Piecemeal's Desert3 update of stock SF2 Parani/Dhimari map. Stary replied to ndicki's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - File Announcements
interesting back-date, thanks bro! I might try to finally do myself "full" ww2-style install -
with no interest in heavy bombers, and early planes bundle already purchased earlier (Eindecker and DH.2) this makes ROF quite "complete" package for me... now they can work on the promised campaign

New IL2 game
Stary replied to xclusiv8's topic in IL-2 Series / Pacific Fighters / Cliffs of Dover: General Discussion
I wanted to patch it and give it a try today... launch, waiting... steam window pops up: "We;re sorry but servers are busy and your request etc. Try later" (in polish so not exactly that) mmmkey, later I F-KING WON'T HAVE TIME! that did it for me, I'm on to delete this POS broken software from a "Legend" (that is you Mr. Maddox!) that failed and escaped from the sinking ship. What does it mean try later huh?! I f***ing paid for this to be able to play it when I want to do so! ok, rant off
