  1. Planes:Exploding, or Flamming?

Duce- Nobody is saying that fire killed more pilots than anything else- We all know it was gravity  But it was such a nasty way of dying, and it was not a rare thing, that a lot of chaps carried a gun just in case the flamer happened to them. And I think it fair to say that fire happened more in RL than in OFF-( except in my mods -lol ) A bit more said !
  2. No, it isn't back . There is no response at all if you just click to go to the forums. If you attempt to log in, it tells you that there are no forums for you to view. Sitting Duck - Your post confused the situation - We are talking SimHq here, not SOH. As I type, Simhq forums are still not available-
  3. Sopwith Pups are tough cookies...

As you know, I have experienced almost no breaking up of planes in the Normal or Hardcore damage model version of my install of OFF. As a result I modded the XDP files - see how to mod your own in the "3rd party mods and files " forum, ( it's there amongst all the different skins that are posted there :) ), As result I am now getting folding wings and explosions. Funnily enough, though, as stated in this thread, I find that the Camel and the SE5a still incur, more readily, obvious damage than the others, e.g Pup ,Tripe etc It is nice to know that whatever level of damage I want I can create. And therefore, it is not arcade but what i regard as realistic. I.e If i put a load of bullets into an enemy I expect him to "get hurt "- And now he does
  4. Any One Tried 3 Monitors?

My mate has one, ( he mostly does FSX flying ), and it will work with his install of OFF, though it's not to my taste. He's seen my projector and I gather he prefers that. It's a matter of personal preference, of course, but it might be one of those investments where a session using one would be necessary, before committing. Hard to get, I imagine.
  5. What a p*sser

bad luck Simon - But be careful re the infection business
  6. Planes:Exploding, or Flamming?

Maybe a lot of you in UK saw the recent documentary programme about the two british Aces Mannock and McCudden. It was certainly stated in there that their greatest fear was going down in flames and that they carried revolvers- it showed the revolvers on the screen So, I think it fair to say that flamers were often enough an event, if such options ( shoot oneself) were used. For some reason my system, as stated in other posts, does not show as much damage as others have, ( Explosions, flames, wings coming off ), so it may be the same for some others, including Hawksbee. (I have modded the files so that I now do have these effects, BTW - see the 3rd party mods forum on how to do it) The post which says that some folks are never satisfied because there were flamers in Phase1 and 2 and none in phase 3 is unfair. and misrepresented Hawksbees question Those flamers in 1 and 2 were situations where the plane caught fire and then flew around for a long time as if it wasn't on fire. Hawksbee was quite rightly asking why there were such low incidences of flamers where the plane caught fire and/or exploded, and then went in.
  7. Betcha he goes!! His Mrs will think he's really gone bonkers - Him, at breakfast one morning, " Fancy a trip to do some shopping at the big centre at Farnborough, Dear?" Her- "You all right?" Betcha
  8. Damages

Olham S! I appreciate what you are saying, but it is apparent i think now that some folks' computers /setups/installs /whatever do NOT give the damage that others, like yourself, experience. I have made a number of installs from 1.26 through to 1.30, and several fresh re -installs at that, in order to experience this damage that others say they get- and it hasn't happened. Let's be clear about what is I mean by damage here. If I fly the installs as they come I get the enemy planes going down out of control and crashing readily enough, with debris ( little pieces ) coming off- but they always go down INTACT. I did not see any explosion or any major item like a wing coming off. J have seen what you have written about settings giving different damage. Believe me, I know all about those and i have tried them all. Makes no difference. Polovski ( with a smile ) suggested I wasn't hitting the planes -lol I even checked that out by using the messages - those horrible blue lines that come up recording your hits. I 've had columns of those heading down the screen, so I know I'm accurate enough. ( I've come at them from all sorts of angles !) So, my conclusion is that some of us get the damage and some don't. From the time this sim came out, it was always a contention by many that the damage did not come soon enough, right from phase 1. Some said that if it did it would be Arcade and unrealistic; but when we had situations where you could pump all your magazine into the enemy and he still flew on, as some , may i suggest, most , found, and yet three hits from the enemy crippled you, it was good news when this "realistic " state of affairs was addressed by the devs. It was early in phase 2 that I learned how to "tweak" the XDP files to modify the damage, and, as i say, I still prefer to do so, to have the sim as I want it. I can readily go back to "vanilla" if i need to, but as yet, i haven't ventured to MP. There is no doubt that now this sim is the most realistic and best sim I have ever flown, especially after this latest patch. I still fly the others, now and then, but when I want the best sim experience, I come back to OFF - almost each and every day. One last thought about the damage modelling in the vanilla install. - having shot the enemy and see him start to spiral down, obviously doomed and unable to fly, I leave him to his fate. Maybe if i pumped Lord knows how many more bullets into him i might get the damage, i don't know- but that to me is not realistic. I save my ammo for the next bugger who might just be about to jump me cheers
  9. That's me awkward as hell- I've never flown the E 111 or the earlier stuff. Straight into Dr1s and Se5s and Camels. etc. How anybody saw what the hell was going on flying a Camel, I don't know.
  10. Damages

yep, that's about it. It's the BDP file you delete, BTW.
  11. Damages

There has been much discussion about this in the past - do a search for damage modelling etc - If you want to increase the damage as you describe, then look at my thread in the "3rd party and mods forum" , one of the other two forums for OFF here at CombatACE. And make your own damage levels.
  12. All of this is very good advice, especially the last paragraph. Just to add- when you say you installed CFS3 and played it and then installed OFF, had you updated CFS3 with patch 3.1 first, BEFORE you played it and then installed OFF? If you are using the original CFS3 discs ( not the Ubisoft DVD version ) you need to update the CFS3 install with the 3.1 patch
  13. Sorry Mikey- re= read your post- How the hell I missed the Processor I don't know. =lol Bloody old age and whisky don't mix- well, they do, but not if you want your brain to work afterwards cheers
  14. Mikeymead. welcome S! In effect i think you are running a dual AMD processor - and if you are there is a tweak you need to do to get the best out of it. I can't point it out to you but I'm sure there are those of us who are running AMD who can point you to the ("optimzier" i think it's called ) Can someone who is using an AMD dual processor spell it out for Mikey, otherwise his FPS are not going to be too good. cheers
  15. Gentlemen, I am making this thread because I'm it may be that many of you do not look in the other OFF3 forums here- i.e. the help and 3rd party Mods etc But I have read HomeBoy's thread in the BHAH Help forum re trackir setup instructions; and it is so good that I feel you alll need to be made aware of its existence. I have used trackir for years, from trackir 1 onwards, yet there is much i have learned for myself from this article. Do yourself a favour and take time to read it.
  16. TrackIR setup instructions

Homeboy S! You are to be congratulated for this document, which is brilliant. It is well written, and will be a great help for those new to trackir. I have had trackir for years, since trackir 1, but your document has clarified one or two matters for me. Again, well done , and thanks FB
  17. OFF QC Lock-up

Mike In your first post you described how you dug out your CfS3 discs and installed and updated to 3.1. OK so far, but I noticed you didn't say that you then ran CFS3 and flew a mission - You need to do this, only for a short while - 30 secs maybe- , otherwise when you then install OFF3 it won't work. This flying of the mission in CFS3 puts some vital Cfs3 files in the registry. So, it may be a good idea to go right back and uninstall everything, then re install ensuring the mission is flown after the 3.1 patch and before OFF 3 is installed. If you do uninstall, do it thoroughly as per the FAQs at OverFlanderfield website HTH
  18. O/T WWI for IL2

If this sim is genuine, as everyone seems to think, then the above post is by far the most objective; and says everything that's right about OFF and this new sim. I second it completely. We don't need a "My sim is better than yours is gonna be " thread
  19. O/T WWI for IL2

Over Oleg's Fields !!!! Come on, I don't know about you chaps but what date is it tomorrow?
  20. DM and Guns Consensus?

hello catch S! Well , I've tried half the day, shooting from all over the place but mainly deflection shooting - I've had blue messages hurtling down the middle of the screen, and planes smoking and falling from the sky , in QC.-- But no wings coming off. So, I've reloaded my amended xdp files and now i have wings off, explosions etc. Not too much- what to me seems about right. Now something slightly different. I must admit i do not still understand the Easy - hard settings in workshops 100 per cent. I use realistic for Players Flight model and normal for Players guns only. (Forget the Claims part -) AI Gun Range - Easy means he doesn't fire till close in - hard means he can hit you from miles out as in the original OFF, Yes? - So I have it on easy. Which to me is realistic ( i know some think differently , but not looking for a discussion on that here ) OK - Main guns What does easy mean, what does hard mean ? Does easy mean my guns will easily hit the EA? and hard mean they won't? - If so, it duplicates Normal/strong/ strongest in players guns, no? Or does this easy/hard part not apply to me, the player? And if i have the same settings in Hardcore and Normal, what is it that hardcore changes from Normal? I'm afraid to say that the terminology used in Workshops, apparently for convenience and brevity, has not made the settings intuitive, IMHO.
  21. Help!

Sorry - Might have confused things here when i mentioned my nVidia - i meant I use an Intel processor. It could be the fact that you have a Dual-core AMD Processor. If it isn't using an Optimiser app, then the processor is probably not using one core fully. Hence the low FPS. Is there anyone using such a processor who has tweaked with the necesssary app who can advise Church here? If no-one responds Church do a search of the forums - or even look in OFF2 forums in Sim outhouse website. I'm sure there has been posts about this. Come to think of it there may be something in FAQs on the OverFlandersField website.
  22. Hey Prop - how about this - for a laugh. I modded an xml on an Alb so that the threshold value on the engine values were all on 10.Including the last "break" Guess what happened.? It obviously readily gave the effects, including "break", but it seems that "break" for engine means it shoot out the aircraft pretty much like the pilot jumps out.!! I thought , "what's that come out the plane?" - then i saw it was what looked like an Engine block ! So looks like i need to make the "break" at 100 - in fact everything so that the last thing that is 10 is the explosion.!! Can be fun, this modding
