There is an element of truth here, actually. Funnily, it seems that the first political viewpoints don't attract the calls "to keep politics out" - It's only when the opposing views are posted ! (Until then, mods etc don't see any conflict, I suppose. ) Same when religion subjects are referred to. !! Either A post should be flagged soon as one or both of those, religion or politics, rears its head- or let the thread run so long as there is no personal attack? If it's a thread you don't like, then you don't have to visit it. But don't infer that the problem is being caused by the responder to the thread, for responding.

Hehe! Being a Quick combat man mostly, and occasional campaign user, I have found that some locations are better than others for ground unit attacks. When i create a Quick combat I use CFS3 in workshops, which gives me the opportunity to change location and weather.etc I have found that the middle location in the Alsace region is good for finding enemy trucks etc, if you survive the air battle, and have got some ammo left. By switching on the labels you can find the enemy ground units, then strafe them. They blow up lovely

Well chaps, I hope that you are right, I really do. But this planet before has not had systematic stripping of rainforests, relentless burning of fossil fuels creating extremely high levels of carbon dioxide, These are unnatural events, not something which comes and goes in cycles. These are a number of factors facing us which are not cyclic- the prime example being the ever increasing human population, which is the one which drives all the others. In my job, as I expect you find/found in yours, I had bosses whose answer to an upcoming difficulty which needed to be sorted by them, was "Problem? What problem? "

Interesting thread this! Like UK, I use Roll of the Dice, really because i just don't want to be continually making new pilots! As I would be. But, not flying DID is not the same thing as flying easy, is it? You could still be DID but fly with all labels, external views, no cockpit view etc etc, can you not? I fly full real, ( for want of a better term ), using none of the above, as I'm pretty sure UK does, and i don't find this an easy game in which to win. Do a QC with you versus three enemy, on full real, and I wouldn't bet on you surviving. And from the limited campaign I've played, it seems those odds regularly turn up -lol Sure, in Roll on Dice, or never dies, it's easy or certain for my pilot to survive in, but not to win. You could make it pretty easy to win , yet be DID when your luck runs out. That's one of the greats about this sim - Play it as YOU wish to- so many options. -
Man faces Jail after Urinating on War memorial
Fortiesboy replied to UK_Widowmaker's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
No - Why don't you get off your soap box and stop hi-jacking this thread. It's about ordinary men and women who went to be soldiers to do their thing for their country in time of war, and who died, and to whom a memorial was made - then some drunken yob pissed on their memory. It is NOT about what you are continually trying to take it to- a tirade against all western countries who went to various wars, for reasons which you allege. ( May be relevant reasons, may be not ). Either way, I object to your motives. After the first time I admonished you for misrepresenting this thread, someone excused you because of language difficulty. Well, you have proved that that was not the case. There is no ambiguity about your language- what you are saying is clear. To me, it is objectionable in this thread . Perhaps it is time that the mods closed it. -
Man faces Jail after Urinating on War memorial
Fortiesboy replied to UK_Widowmaker's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
What are you on about? The memorial is not identified save to say it was a war memorial. This was not a memorial to the politicians/ instigators of the Afghan war, nor the Irag war, or any other war of which you may disapprove. It was a memorial to the brave men and women who were killed fighting for their country. That's who he was insulting.! And you are right about the moderators- for you, more than anyone, has pushed this thread to aggravation. You have tried to move this thread into a debate on the rights or otherwise of particular wars and the politics of it. Those were not issues in what he did, nor, may i suggest, in the mind of the initiator of this thread or any other contributor to it. -

I haven't made any blanket judgments at all. I said ..some... And the kind of behaviour of which we speak is not "rare". Try taking yourself for a stroll in our city centres late on a Friday night, and see whether you would go again. ( Hopefully you wouldn't take your wife with you, for her sake ). As for the "acts following these people around.. etc.." - Do not make the mistake of thinking that yobs have a sense of shame, remorse etc, as you may consider you would have , if you misbehaved. It would be nice to think they may have, but I think forgiving natures like yours are placing too many decent members of society at the mercy of Anti social behaviour. The levels of such behaviour in this country are now sky -high, and a change is urgently required. My motives would not be revenge, but to protect decent society. So, please don't tell me to "Whoa!" -
Yes, take your point - But I think it would have to be using a computer. I play golf ( earlier today, in fact ) with a retired RAF pilot who flew some of the Spits and Hurricanes when they made the battle of britain film. He tells me that things were hairy enough with the (relatively ) small numbers of planes they had in the air when filming. !!!

Man faces Jail after Urinating on War memorial
Fortiesboy replied to UK_Widowmaker's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Sorry, S- I disagree on this occasion. This was not a silly prank. This was complete disrespect for those brave servicemen who died and who are dying still for this country. I've just listened to the description of that poor chap who died defusing bombs in Afghanistan. Bravest of the brave etc. I'm not in the mood to listen to excuses any longer for some of the namby pamby, disrespectful cowardly youth which this Country is now breeding. For that disgraceful act, drunken or not, of the options I'd give him, he would choose jail!. -
Hello chaps A sad day - my trusty cougar is throwing a wobbly. It seems that there are many inputs coming from the software- either Foxy or cougar itself. I think it i the cougar software. When the stick is connected to the computer, the desktop goes crazy sometimes, starting all sorts of programmes at the same time!! Pull out the usb cougar plug, and all is back to normal. I hve re installed the cougar software several times, but each time i don't get a normal manual calibration. ( Cougar doesn't use Windows for calibration ) Anyone any ideas? Also - now that Cougar World at frugals is not accessible any more, is there a "Cougar World" anywhere else on the Web? So, I have brought the Saitek X45 out of retirement. That is working fine except for one small thing. Using it in Windows mode ( as opposed to the saitek software profiles ) I have mapped keyboard commands to its buttons in several sims OK. However, when putting some commands into FSX, I moved the "three way mode " button and since then i cannot map any new keys to the controls in FSX. the one already there work OK, but if i try to add any more now, i get no response when i go to "add or change assignment " function. If i press the joystick button, for say, Map- There is no take like there should be. I've re booted and re connected the stick, but it is still the same. Strange thing is it worked fine when setting up sims later in the day. It's just in FSX? TIA

Any Joystick Doctor or experts around?
Fortiesboy replied to Fortiesboy's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Alm.... I reckon you're right re the firmware. I've managed to contact James Hallows- Nutty- and he has kindly sent me a copy of the install to which you refer. He tells me too that the firmware is knackered, and I see from the document what it was that i wa omitting that would seem to cure that. So, soon, I shall retrieve the Cougar from the loft and try again. Thanks for all your help, chaps. cheers -

Fortiesboy replied to Fortiesboy's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Alm etc :) "Are you just reinstalling the software or are you starting from scratch? Sometimes it's best to purge the driver from ROM and do a complete reinstall of the driver and software. See if you have "Nutty's" 2006 "New User Guide v1." It's much better than the manual to use as a startup check list. When i first re installed I uninstalled via Add remove progs etc , then i deleted the HOTAS folder. Don't know how to cleanse any deeper. I've sent a message to James Nutty Hallows - whom i have met, BTW, and who is a very nice chap- bloody genius i reckon with his Foxy software. Awaiting a reply But I think the problem is not Foxy but the cougar software ( or stick itself ). Do you know where i can find Nutty's guide on the web? Got a link? Bullethead - Yes I 'll do that if i get no luck with resurrecting the cougar. But in the meantime, any idea why it is like that with just FSX? thanks for the replies -
AI va Player Aircraft Engine Power
Fortiesboy replied to Slipstream22's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Now that is very interesting ! I am going to try this in my flight from now on. In fact, thinking about it, i might have been doing it, even though I am trying to move the stick like a bishop- I've never actually analysed it - but will do now. Thanks Bullethead. As for this, British,eh - " As for the AI, it's not the engine, it's the FUEL load. They have 0, nada, nothing, so they are quite a bit lighter" I fly mainly QC and not campaign, and found out long ago that in the uisel file I can give the enemy planes some fuel, thus some performance hit, maybe?.. I suppose it don't work in campaign- maybe, maybe not! -
Look, I'm with Voltaire when it comes to opinions- and some of the folks who i have had most respect for in my life have been strong believers. One in particular, who death really upset me. I am also interested in philosophical discussions, from time to time, about God or no God etc etc. But this is not the place to promote one's beliefs in such matters. Duce could have said he was going away for a week end break, camping or whatever, - but no - he had to make two posts about how it was all to do with his promotion of his religion- " To see their eyes light up with understanding....... " etc, is NOT pushing Evangelical Christian religion in a place it shouldn't be ? Damn sure it is, and IMHO Duce knew it was. This is a WW1 sim forum - where there is no reason for such comments to be made. Nor does it worry me that I am alone in my opinion- though it saddens me a little.
-
Sorry to sound a bum note here, but whilst i do not have any problem with chaps telling us they are going off for a good time somewhere, ( and best of luck to them ) I do have an objection when the occasion is an excuse to promote their religious beliefs. IMHO, this is not a forum for that sort of thing.

Just Installed the Final Version of TrackIR 5 Software
Fortiesboy replied to RAF_Louvert's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Lou S! Just looked at the trackir support website. It says that the latest version supports Trackir 4 and 5. However, A LATER version, 5.1, will support trackir 3 with vector expansion. So, us trackir 3 fellas are not yet able to use it- it says- But, has anyone ( reckless types among you -lol ) with trackir 3 ventured and tried this present software? -
Cant even get it to start right
Fortiesboy replied to Vicshere's topic in WOFF 1 2 3 / UE - General Help
As this is an original 2 disc CFS3, not a Later DVD version, it is my understanding that you will always need to have the disc in the drive to play CFS3 and OFF! (That's why your comment about "in desparation putting in the disc etc " confuses me ?? ) Can't help re the burner thing, I'm afraid -
In this new set up. ? I've looked everywhere, including my profile, to try to find my Private messages. Before this "improvement" I could log in and see messages . If i wanted to view my inbox or send a message i just clicked on it. Now, I cannot find them ? Is it that i cannot see the wood for the trees? Advice please-lol

I gather that AI programming is the hardest thing to do - makes sense really- how to get the plane to behave the same as a human!! You can get a sneak on some - set to rookie for example. In QC, best results are starting at height against Ace. Fly full real using only eyes and trackir and dogfight against two or more aces and you'll likely get beat. If you don't, you are brilliant, absolutely brilliant- or telling porkies- or using some of the "aids" The biggest let down is their behaviour when they are near the ground. They can start doing their own thing which is zooming into a stall without any interest in you at all. But fight them at height and you have it all to do.

Yes, Unc- Thanks for your post too- now I'm glad I wasn't the only one!-lol So it's two lots of thanks to Ricketycrate for his enlightenment- thanks mate- :)

How to get the desired campaign craft
Fortiesboy replied to Olham's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Good post- I suspect there are quite a few who didn't realize that they could start off ( ahem ) in 1917 and 1918 in the "proper" planes ( Don't all attack at once ) -
Stratos S! I play mostly Quick combat and not campaign -( time etc ). There is a lot more you can do in QC -It's not just practice. First- there are two quick flights. There is the quick flight which UNC says will bite you ( lol), but the best, IMHO, is the CFS3QC. Go into workshops and along the bottom towards the left you will see CFS3QC. Click on that and you will see a screen where you can make your choices. However, there are more choices to come. Click on "Go to field " and then you will see the Initialising screen , and on the left side of that is a purple rectangle - click on that and you have some more options. The best to explore is Location. When you click on that you can see lots of options to change the weather, for instance. -Always fly in sunshine if you want to-lol You can choose differrent regions and places within those regions to fly in. Try Alsace for instance. In that area there is a good chance that when (if ) you win the dogfight that if you look around ( use labels ) you can find some enemy troops or trucks- then use your remaining ammo on shooting them up- the trucks burn nicely. Then return to your airfield to land. Yes, that location button reveals many options and places to try. HTH And now of course, there are the quick scenarios to try in the main menu. cheers

MiniPATCH V1.32f is now available!
Fortiesboy replied to Polovski's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Thank you guys from someone to whom this tweak really matters. Restoring the ability to fly CFS3QC without compulsory respawn makes it so enjoyable. Just knocked down a pesky Viper and then found 3 British trucks sneaking up on us, so I zapped two of them and had a nice fire or two! Mind, I needed three "passes" at them. Must brush up the old ground shooting skills. It was great to see the bullets kick up the dust on the road. Brilliant sim! FB
