Since the new superpatch, for which I did a re - install, and subsequent patches, it seems i have lost the ability to fly QC without re spawning. Since phase 2 I have flown QC without re spawning. In order to prevent re spawning, I went to the uisel file ( both of em ) in CFSWWl Over Flanders field folder in Docs and settings/owner etc etc and I changed the re spawn options to "n". I've also tried this in conjunction with the two options in workshops, but no matter what, I cannot get a QC flight with no respawn. Can this be corrected, if so, how? TIA

Respawning in QC cannot be stopped

Thanks for the detailed reply Winder- Whilst obviously,( being an avid QC chap,) disagreeing about the view expressed in the last paragraph - lol. ( I often times found more than one friendly field to land in, after a CF3 QC dogfight- and with flak set low it was easy to survive), I am happy re the first sentence of your reply - I look forward to patch 1.32f. Thank you. -
Respawning in QC cannot be stopped
Fortiesboy replied to Fortiesboy's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Well it is important to some to be able to look around after shooting down the enemy and spotting some ground units to use your remaining ammo on,( they now blow up nicely too -lol ) before returning to your airfield and landing. This non option of finishing as in RL has come into OFF lately, and I think is non too popular. By which I mean the sudden ending of the scenario when damaged- no struggling down trying to make forced landings etc. Now the same is done for QC - "Just switch out the flight", you say. A lot now seems to have to end abruptly. Anyhow, I am not asking for an option in workshops, just some way of making the choice. In phase 2 IIRC you could go into the uisel file and select N for respawn, changing it from the default Y. Save the file and it was as simple as that. I have tried that, but the file won't stay on N. EDIT- I have got it to work after a fashion. Read all these lines before doing it, because at the moment there is a "price" to pay for this "fix". ( Legal stuff - try it at your own risk ) This is for XP. I don't know how this works in vista 1. In QC or CFS3/QC select the scenario you want e.g one or more wingmen etc.etc You'll see why later. 2. Go to the uisel file which is in the CFSWWl folder in Documents and Settings/owner/application data/Microsoft 3 Open the uisel file using notepad and you will see under enemy aircraft, a respawn line which has the value y. Change this value to n. Save the file and exit it. 4. Right click on the uisel file and select properties . Make it a Read only file by clicking in the little box. That's it The n value for respawn will now stay. The price you pay though is that all the other values seem to be fixed as well- so you cannot change the number of enemy or wingmen etc etc that you normally do just before flying. Note when you proceed towards clicking to fly, you will get an error message once or twice about the uisel file. The message suggests re setting the CFS3 files, but if you just click on OK ( i.e ignoring that advice )you will carry on going to the point of clicking "Fly" Now when you fly you will get the scenario you first of all had before changing the uisel file except the enemy will not respawn. Unfortunately, to change the scenario you have to go back to the uisel file and change its status from Read Only. So it all depends on how much you want the enemy not to respawn, I suppose. IIRC, OFF used to be that you could change the respawn line and it would "stick" without affecting any other ability of the uisel file. (It did not have to be made a read only file), and so i am wondering why the devs could not re-introduce this. By this I am not asking that this is done via Workshops, - just that the player could be offered a simple guide to make one visit to the uisel file which could stop respawning for those few, like myself, who like that feature. and would be prepared to make that slight mod. cheers -

Hello British I was hoping that one of the devs could help with this, because in all the changes since phase 3 came out, the non re spawning stayed with my instal. I had always changed it in the uisel file, in CFSWW1 folder as described, which is where to do it, IIRC, but the changes I have now made in there do not seem to hold- which must be something that has recently been done by the devs? -
In response to the queries re our ( mainly Prop- Wasche's ) DM, and whether one can return to 1.32 DM after using our DM, I decided to check this out. So, on my lesser PC, I loaded OFF from clean, then 1.32 and then 1.32d mini patch. Looking at the first flight, I thought, - this terrain is better than the one I saw on the main computer when i first installed 1.32, and, which, as you may know, I discarded and returned to 1.30. Hmmmm. Anyway, I changed the DMs and flew a QC without joystick. I looked at the xdp files and our ones were in there. Then I went back to 1.32d by replacing the "aircraft" file which I had copied and saved elsewhere, and sure enough, the sim flew and the 1.32d xdp files were back. So, it seems, an interchange can be made, if wanted. But- back to my seeing 1.32d and quite liking the terrain, which, before, I couldn't live with. ( trees and sky, it was ). Back to the main gaming PC - the one with the joystick - I uninstalled OFF, deleting all remaining OFF files. I re-installed clean from the disc, checked it ran, then loaded the 1.32 and then 1.32d. A QC flight looked good on the monitor- Flew again on the projector, and this time tweaked the projector's colour balance till I got a good sky. The trees seem fine, and a couple of dogfights later against the DR1 ( I reckoned I could live with its low level "quirks" ), I am now going to keep it. It hadn't taken me long, the first time I tried 1.32, to decide against it, because the thing which had hit me straight away was the trees in the terrain. I couldn't live with them, so I didn't go too much further. But the next install had them looking different? I can only conclude that it was the clean re -install which made the diff on my computer/projector setup. Before, I had patched an existing install. So it maybe, on some computers, such a change in install procedure can make a difference. Who knows for certain.? What I do know for sure is that the way I shall install in future is Clean Re-install and then latest patch, if that is possible. cheers

As you know Prop Wasche introduced "The Herr Prop-Wasche and Fortiesboy Damage Model Variety Pack (DMVP) is intended to be used as an alternative campaign damage model to any other currently existing damage model already released either by OBD or by any other third party." For the QCers among you who may want a little more visible damage, I have made available a DM for the QC aircraft. When this is installed, you still get our ( mainly Prop Wasches ) DMVP in campaign, but now when you fly QC the carnage is a little more! See the 3rd party File and Mods Releases Announcements forum for details

File Name: Fortiesboy1.2 QC DM File Submitter: Fortiesboy File Submitted: 15 Aug 2009 File Category: Modding Tools and Add-on Software To all you mainly QCers and maybe multiplay guys, here is a DM for QC. If you already have installed our ( mainly Prop Wasches) Combo file, this file will enhance the visible damage to the QC models. Installation: Right click the zipped rar file and extract to your CFSWWl Over Flanders Field/ Aircraft folder. NOTE; This is slightly different from installing the Combo file. That file asked you to extract only to the CFSWW1 Over Flanders Fields folder. This file asks you to extract to the aircraft folder within the CFSWWl Over Flanders Fields folder. Then go to your CFSWW1 Over Flanders Fields folder and use the deletebdps.bat file. ( Double click on it and follow the brief instruction ) This has been used after installing the Combo file in the latest 1.32d Superpatch version of OFF 3. If you anticipate returning to the Devs vanilla 1.32d version, it is suggested that you copy and make a backup of the Aircraft folder in CFSWWl Over Flanders Fields folder in the sim before installing this mod or the Combo mod. Legal stuff- use this mod at your own risk. Click here to download this file

Open Letter to Forum from OBD software

It was my intention to let this matter of difference of opinion about this superpatch die a natural. but I must say that some of the latter posts have gone too far. Not because they criticize those who have been somewhat ranty in their minority opinion, or even rude in e mails, ( as I understand has happened ), but because none of these posts has acknowledged that there have been ANY posts, ( criticizing the patch ), which haven't been of that nature. That is totally unfair and IMHO smacks of "fanboyism" of the worst sort. If you are going to use inflammatory phrases like that about folks, then kindly acknowledge that not all dissenters are the same. And maybe google Voltaire. -
I didn't say "patches" - I was suggesting one patch, the previous patch. Patches were available on the site - None is available now. I do keep the previous patches- the question, and hence the panic, was ( at my age ) -where?
-
Winston- Hope you stay - this is still the greatest sim there has been. Maybe, like me, you will want to go back to 1.30c which is what i have done. ( My thread explains why ) but the bit of a rant you made isn't the way to do it. Mind you, I was fortunate in that I had 1.30c to go back to. ! Those who say that if you don't like a patch, then don't use have got to acknowledge something! To find out you don't want it, you first have to install it and try it. So to take the advice, it means you then have to be able to go back to your previous install. Whether System restore does that or not, I don't know. I went back to a fresh install, BUT, I did notice that Over Flanders Field website did NOT have the previous patches there to be downloaded. Therefore, a frantic search to find 1.30c, which I fortunately managed to do. If I hadn't found it i could have been in a de facto similar situation same as the sim which will not be named, would I not? Perhaps OverFlandersField website could offer 1.30 for those who may wish to interchange versions? If technically possible?

As you have invited everyone to vote, I will- Mind you, I am not an avid campaign guy. Having said that, when i do fly campaign, I do not find it easy. I don't think that giving an option to lower AI numbers will make it too easy either. So, if this option is put in, I don't think it will hurt those who want the Status Quo, And it might retain those who otherwise may get a sense of "I don't seem to get any progress with my success in this sim " The fact that they may think like that is not a reflection against the sim, it would just be a learning curve thing. And the option may make the diff. So, it being an option, I vote for it.

Another great thing I just realized about OFF
Fortiesboy replied to Hellshade's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Sitting on the fence, as usual, Simon? Yes, this is a very good point. I speak as one who has used this ability to defer using the latest patch. -
Maybe many of you know that I am a QC guy who hardly ever plays Campaign. and after some dogfights in 1.32, I've decided to go back to 1.30c. The immediate impression on my system was that the terrain is too artificial looking now, bright and stark - and it seems that there are some "Christmas type "trees added, which , to me, just don't seem right. I strongly prefer the previous terrain, and , for me, terrain etc is very important. The AI seems a bit too maneuverable (uber) up top , and purposeless and stalling near the ground. And the Archie is everywhere. All the time. IMHO, it was right in the previous patch. I know that a lot of work has gone into this new patch by the devs, and I appreciate that. Their level of support has never been matched by any other sim maker. It isn't my intention to be a naysayer, though I'm obviously going to be a very small minority- nonetheless I have given my humble honest opinion. As I say, my use of OFF is limited - hardly any campaign- so the benefits of 1.32 may show up there rather than in my little dogfighting world. Most folks know that I have been with this sim from the start, and I have long been of the opinion that it is the best sim that there is out there. I still believe that, it just so happens, that for me , it is OFF v1.30c

battle damage to aircraft

Just for more fun, try it using my DM - and then Prop Wasches - Both can be downloaded - see the OFF 3rd Party File and Mods Release Announcements forum. Variety is the spice of life -they say -
Erik Thanks for the update = Glad to know it wasn't anything sinister.

I read it Unc. But the vernacular is known very clearly to you, but not necessarily is it definite nor unequivocal to everyone else. An official statement saying what had happened would have been helpful.

Because it was my homepage, I thought I had a big problem, my end. Was this a planned shutdown or what, do we know ?

File Name: Fortiesboys DM 1.2 File Submitter: Fortiesboy File Submitted: 26 Jul 2009 File Updated: 27 Jul 2009 File Category: Aircraft Models This DM now makes new DM for ALL the planes in OFF, including those of the early years. Install instructions the same as for DM1.1 Don't forget to delete the bdp files after installing this DM. Instructions ( for XP ) same as before. If you have Vista, you need to search for the .bdp files within the aircraft folder in CFSWWl Over Flanders Field. Then you delete them. Personally, why MS had to change the method from XP is beyond me ! Legal stuff - At your own risk. Enjoy. Click here to download this file

Winder- i do sympathize with your feelings of what it must be like for your creation to be pirated, but I do think that SCGSG1 is right on this. I think that the only people who get OFF this pirating way are people who would NOT have bought OFF anyway. They are the sort who rarely buy any game, have no abiding interest in any particular sort of flight sim, but they see a game for free and it's - lets have that and see what it is. I know that it can't be "proved " , one way or another, but how many users of this forum, the real users of OFF, do you think might have obtained their sim this way? Reckon I only need to use one hand here! -lol The principle is galling, i know, but I'd bet good money that the reality is that not many sales are lost through piracy- Sure, there are many downloads, but, I repeat, not many SALES are lost. ROF cannot quantify how many sales they have lost through their online requirement, but they can get an idea, - because, unlike pirates, guys like SCGSG1 and myself are quite willing to post up that we will not buy their product merely because of the online- to- play requirement. True flight sim enthusiasts will buy the product. They don't wait around in the (possibly vain ) hope that it will be available from pirates. The reason sales are small is that it is a niche, though passionate, hobby- unlike eating food- :biggrin:lol

Current Status - Super Patch
Fortiesboy replied to Winder's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
An excellent list. especially for quickie types like me. Thanks -
Also for the benefit of others reading the question, the answer is ............Yes. Only the xdp files are being replaced by my download. But, as previously explained, whenever the xdp files are amended, it is necessary to delete the bdp files so that the new xdp files can "take". After bdp files are deleted, they are automatically re-created when the sim is restarted.

Hope AI limitations are being looked into.
Fortiesboy replied to Mr. Lucky's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
I second that. Re the hanging on props, avoid the Nieuports, and pretty much anything 1917 onwards is OK. If you still think it's too easy, try you versus two Ace AI, using no aids at all- Just you and trackir. Survive regularly, and you're good!
