How do you get the cockpit windows in there? Thats a miracle to me... Although I'm using Blender, the principles are similar I guess. I tried simply cutting them in, but always end up with strange shadows and lighting issues around the windows. -
WW2 WIPs Thread
Nyghtfall replied to Wrench's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - World War II Forum
I'm just curious: Whats the deal with the canopy-glass? In the WIP it has a nice opacity, while the final product (which Spinners painted nicely, as seen in the what-if-board) has those strange white windows? My 2 cents: keep the original. -
My favourites are the Starfury (Babylon 5) and of course the Planet Express Ship!

Why not use the F-8D.lod for the C. Remove the IRST in the data.ini and its very close, I guess. -
SF2 Scooters! Vol.2 - Aggressors for TW A-4 and Fractures TA-4 Skyhawks
Nyghtfall posted a file in A-4
Version 1.0

Scooters! Vol.2 - Aggressors for TW A-4 and Fractures TA-4 Skyhawks ======================================================== *** DLC A-4G Skyhawk required. Tested in full 5-merged installation *** *** SF2 or SF2V for the A-4E cockpit and A-4F model *** This pack contains 14 Aggressor-Skins for the Scooter as used during it's career as plane for DACT - Dissimilar Air Combat Training. These planes were used to simulate enemy aircraft vs. regular Squadrons. Although a certain camouflage was applied often to 1 plane only, I decided to do 8 planes per skin for playability reasons. To difference the real planes and the "filler" I added the BuNos for the real planes in the loadout menu. The ones without BuNo are fictional. This pack contains skins depicting the following planes/squadrons: A-4E/F Mongoose without Hump - A-4E/F of VF-43 Challengers, 1992 in a light gray/gray wraparound camo. - A-4E/F of VF-126 Bandits, 1992 in white/gray/blue with light blue bottom - A-4E/F of VF-126 Bandits, 1991 in tan with brown stripes and gray bottom. - A-4E/F of VF-126 Bandits, 1991 in tan/brown/green with gray bottom. - A-4E/F of VFC-12 Fighting Omars, 1993 in an overall glossy engine gray camo. A-4E/F Skyhawk with Hump - A-4E of VF-45 Blackbirds, 1987 in brown with green tiger stripes ("Brown Tiger") - A-4E of VF-101 Grim Reapers, 1972 in 2 shades of bluegray with light blue bottom. TA-4J Skyhawk - TA-4F/J of VFC-12 Fighting Omars, 1989 in an overall glossy engine gray camo. - TA-4F/J of VA-127 Cylons, 1986 in a tan/green wraparound camo. - TA-4F/J of VA-127 Cylons, 1983 in a light gray/dark gray/blue wraparound camo. - TA-4F/J of VC-8 Redtails, 2000 in tan/brown. - TA-4F/J of VC-8 Redtails, 2000 in blue/light blue ("Baby Blue"). - TA-4F/J of VF-45 Blackbirds, 1993 in bluegray/gray wraparound camo. - TA-4F of H&MS-31 Aggressors, 1989 in 3 different gray wraparound camo. Included is a variation of the ACMI-Pod. For that I combined ravenclaws ACMI-Pod model with the data.ini of 331Killerbees CAP-9 to make it a missiletype-store than uses a build-in rail. New Hangar- and Loadingscreens are also included with a resolution of 1920x1080 as default and 1024x768 as optional. I changed the cockpit by removing the radar screen. Additional changes are the switched positions of the Accelerometer and AoA-Indicator and Levers for Arresting Hook and Landing Gear are operational now. As in dtmdragons original mod, I retained the cannons for playability, although they are not visible in game. I hope you have fun with it! Sources ======= - Scooter! The Douglas A-4 Skyhawk Story, Crécy 2011 - A-4 Skyhawk Association, http://a4skyhawk.org/ - Airliners.net - Google in general to gather pictures of aggressor skins. Installation ============ 1. unzip to a temporary folder 2. open "Put_Content_In_Your_Mod folder" and do as you were told, if asked to overwrite, say 'yes' :P 3. enjoy! If the Squadrons are missing in the loadout screen, you should add content of the "squadronlist_ini_addon.txt"-file to the squadronlist.ini ("<mod>\pilotdata"-folder) with XXX changed to the next free numbers. If the Aggressors-"Nation" is missing, you have to add the content of "nations_ini_addon.txt"-file to the nations.ini ("<mod>\flight"-folder) with XXX changed to the next free number. Credits ======= - Thirdwire and TK for a great game, models and the cockpit-parts I used. - Fracture, Wrench for the original TA-4J Pack and Model. - dtmdragon for his A-4 Aggressor pack, on which this is based. - RAVEN - LAU-129 missile-rail - ravenclaw_007 - ACMI-Pod - 331Killerbee - CAP-9 from his Ordnance Shop II Pack - Alejandro - Escapac seat - FastCargo - FakePilot - ???? - TopGun pilot - ???? - J52-Sound - ???? - 150gal OV-10A-tank - me - all skins, decals, loadingscreens, ini-work, modified A-4E cockpit. Please PM me, if I forgot someone! Thanks ====== - mue for his great LODViewer, which was a big help while creating the camos and placing stuff! - all modders at CombatAce for their work and inspiration! P.S. ==== If you have any problems with this skin or have suggestions and hints, feel free to PM me. -
Strike Fighters 2: Windows 10 Edition up for pre-order

Translation with google: I am running SF2 (full version) on Windows 10 but if everything works well I have a small PB, impossible to see the effects on the ground of the so-called Classic bombs. (Mk 81 83 etc) a setting can be? I am thinking of buying the Windows 10 version to remedy this. I don't know what "PB" is, maybe someone else knows, sorry.- 183 replies

fake pylon in SF2
Nyghtfall replied to UllyB's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Yeah cancer sucks...I totally agree with you. My mother died unexpectedly 3 years ago within 6 weeks. She went by herself to the hospital just to check a partial loss of her voice and within 6 weeks, she died...never left hospital in between and was most of the time sleeping within those 6 weeks...so no way to say goodbye to her. 2 month later I got a disc prolapse... So yeah, probably not as bad as your situation, but like I said before....everyone has their cross to bear. Of course I agree with you about the easy way....everyone wants the most with spending as little energy as possible...thats nature... But in my opinion (which I made after "seeing your acting" in the boards now for a while and which you don't have to agree with) you want the easy way because everything else is to timeconsuming. You expect people to know exactly what you have in mind and where to find it and you want to know everything about a topic in a very short amount of time...even the tiniest bit of information, that maybe TK himself sometimes doesn't know. ;) To come back to your fake pylon "problem"*: Maybe you read what I wrote. Maybe not, so I repeat it again: "And to find a pylon...Try my A-4M mod. I think this one has single add-on pylons. Not sure though...." So, I just downloaded my mod, because I simply could not find it right know here. I unzipped it and here they are...there's even a centerline-pylon in the pilots-folder. This took not years or month. And even if you don't know about that mod, I'm sure they are others out there, that also don't take years to find. * within modding a "problem" for me is the task thats need a solution....probably not the right word for you, but it is, how it is. -
fake pylon in SF2
Nyghtfall replied to UllyB's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Seriously? How can I tell you where to find something, if I don't know? You may like it or not, few people fill the boards with a "Sorry, I don't know" if they don't. And for me thats fine...I like reading the boards without skipping thousands of "I don't know posts". I just browsed the weaponsfolder, found it, edited it and used it for a what-if. It's been years when I did this and it was just not important enough, that I saved every bit of info of it.... What on earth keeps you from just doing the same other than words words words and 5 million words because this and that? Afaik there are 2 big old weaponspacks out there (bunyaps?) and 2 weaponspacks of ravenclaw with a third one in the works. I think to remember that theres is also 1 weaponspack of TMF. These are all I know....to sum up: 6...in words SIX. And sorry to disappoint you...I simply don't know all weapons in all packs...probably nobody will. And I'm still sure, that 6 is something that one can handle in less then "months or years" and even with limited downloads. We just don't have to agree to each other and I sure we won't. I'm fine with that. People are willing to help here, just maybe not always the way you want/expect it. This here is a hobby for most people, please keep that in mind. P.S. You spoke of misinterpretation. English is not my first language and I'm far from perfect with it. I use words wrong and sometimes what I write will make no sense in english, when it's a phrase from another language. That's a common problem here, because people are from all over the world... -

fake pylon in SF2
Nyghtfall replied to UllyB's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
...a small add: Another tip: STart thinking out of the box. For your pylon-"problem" - take something that has the general shape you need and repaint it. I once used some external chaff-dispenser as a pylon. Use mue's lod-viewer...it's easy as hell nowadays to look at models. And to find a pylon...Try my A-4M mod. I think this one has single add-on pylons. Not sure though....yeah, I don't even remember every detail on my own mods again. -
fake pylon in SF2
Nyghtfall replied to UllyB's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Well, I don't sit at home the whole day doing nothing....I have a job and a private life too. So I also don't have unlimited time. And in the evening I don't alsways want to spent hours to play around with SF2. That's why things last long to get to the finish these days. But that's ok. And saying, that you would lose months and years is nonsense in my eyes. After a short while you get an impression, where to look stuff at and you don't always have to search the entire database of CA every time. But you are absolutely right...I am really that stupid to search for something in weaponpacks or download stuff, with the hope to find, what I need. And yeah, sometimes (often?) I do not find what I need and "lost" time as you would call it. But in my eyes even when the result was not as expected, the time was not lost, as I had a view on other stuff besides searching and have an idea where to look at on the next problem. What you want is the short way... and if people answer your questions, you often do not accept the answer, for whatever reason. There are enough examples on the board. Maybe that are also reasons, why nobody bothers to sit there for an hour or 2 and create a pylon, just because UllyB wants one. You say you cannot learn blender. That's fine. Nobody has to. It is just 1 possible solution for your problem, though not the easy one you would like to have. "Have you thought of that?" - to be serious? No, and I have to say - I don't care. Why should I? You will have a reason and that is fine by me, because it was just 1 idea to solve your problem. Everyone has a reason for something and everyone has their cross to bear including you and me. "If I wanted to help you I would have given it to you the pylon on the spot (if I had it) or told you where to find it (if I knew it), and not lecturing you about your choices in life. IMO THAT is what I call HELP." ^ So to keep it simple. You expect others to exactly point out where to find the one solution that suits you in a second? Maybe others don't know, where to find a solution for the vision in your head. Have you thought of that? Look at your answer to the pylon you requested...still empty words...no meassurments or a general direction - draw something in paint, whatever ...it has to be slim...that's all I know. So why should I spent hours to just find out what you want, just to make something, that you request afterwards to be taller, smaller, whatever? Help people to help you....thats what I expect from someone, that requests something. Try something on your own, be polite and people will help you, but accept that maybe noone knows exactly and once in a while accept the answer you've been given. That's all I wanted to say. Have fun. Over and out. ;) -
fake pylon in SF2
Nyghtfall replied to UllyB's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
A tip for you: The more info you give someone, you better the answer/work will be. In your case: The pylon you want may be 1m in length and 5cm in height or 30m in length and 30cm in height....both would be more or less slim. ;) -

fake pylon in SF2
Nyghtfall replied to UllyB's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
To easy write a feedback, I reordered your answer a bit. 1. On one hand you say that nobody would help you, on the other hand you don't have the time to search for something... What do you expect? That someone else spent HIS/HER time to search for you or even spent HIS/HER time to do a pylon for you, when you by yourself don't want to spent time to search for something? 2. Guess what? A fake pylon was exactly the beginning for me to learn Blender. I wanted a pylon and didn't find anyone to make one for me, so I started and found people helping me to convert it from Blender to Max and LOD. Today we even have mue's exporter for Blender, so you do not have to invest any money for a 3D-Software to get stuff into the game. Of course you will have to invest time (a lot...) to learn it, but it is worth it. And even then, you could simply ask people to help you. My impression of you is, that you want to know everything that MAY happen on your way to a certain result...even the most improbable...without even take 1 step (I took a screenshot for myself of the the actual SF2-General Board, with now shows 11 UllyB-icons and 3 icons of 3 other people). Just trial and error and see what happens. You will fail, it will take time, but you will learn stuff and advance from there. Of course ask question, but accept the answer one or the other time... people aren't always stupid. Just my 2cent. (no offense intended) -

Strike Fighters 2: Windows 10 Edition up for pre-order
Nyghtfall replied to MigBuster's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters Series News
Well, I totally agree with you, that it would be the best solution, if TW sets it's focus on fixing or improving SF2-engine stuff instead of bringing new models or terrains. But I have to disagree on the easy-peasy stuff. Probably for a few guys it is like this...including you. But for the whole majority it is just not so, if the goal is a plane that looks like one and not a cube-like thing. ;)- 183 replies

Strike Fighters 2 Screenshots Thread

OV-10A of VMO-1 and VMO-2. Do we have a proper model of the 230gal Tank for the Bronco and some sort of templates for the OV-10D-model? -
inconsistency ?
Nyghtfall replied to UllyB's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
As Jarek noted...crossreferencing. Try to find as many sources as possible...books, magazines, photos of actual planes in use by an Air Force, Navy, whatever are often helpful. It is not always easy to find good pictures, that show the piece that interests you in good quality, but nobody said it is an easy task. Sometimes you will find pictures that focus on something else, but show important pieces in the background or whatever. Just keep searching and you will often find enough information to prove your point or not. Not always a reliable source are planes shown in museums (as noted before) or aircraft model kits and such stuff. -
inconsistency ?
Nyghtfall replied to UllyB's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Wikipedia is often enough wrong on details...especially on possible weapons, that can be used on planes. Writers don't recognise, that variants of a plane can have different possibilites to use weapons and everything is mixed together. As was said already...old sources aren't always reliable too. Struff was not known for sure but estimated and are now in books as facts. Or upgrades for planes were planned, when a book was written, but never happened afterwards (ARBS for malaysian skyhawks...never actually happened, but there are enough sources stating, that the planes had it installed) 2 quick examples as an argument: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Douglas_A-4_Skyhawk in Specifications: - there are no 370gal tanks for the Skyhawk....it's either 150gal, 300gal or 400gal. - A-4E wasn't cleared for Mavericks https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/FMA_IA_58 it's a german wikipedia entry, that ususally contains even more errors, than the english one: - Users: Iraq (never in use), Mauretania (never in use) So it is known, that wikipedia entries can, but not have to be correct. -
No A-4 Skyhawk Blue Angels skin for SF2
Nyghtfall replied to streakeagle's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
Use the templates for A-4E+F, they include hump and no hump and should work fine. The differences to the G-model are very minor. You could also use the E 3D-model and add some fakepilot-stuff if you don't have the DLC. The other template posted is for the earlier C and L variants with short nose and different intakes (+ some painted on differences). -
Strike Fighters 2: Windows 10 Edition up for pre-order
Nyghtfall replied to MigBuster's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters Series News
Well, I'm afraid you are not wrong. He already stated, that the update will only include W10-compatibility and nothing more, as his financial goals were not met. So in the end TK can even blame his (already) 2nd class customers for that, as we all haven't thrown more money into the black hole "TW". At the time I spent the money I was not really convinced of him creating something substantial new and updated, but...well...even then I gave the money with a tiny bit of hope. I would be surprised, if all the money he got is really invested into SF2 alone... I hope I am wrong too. In my opinion TW/TK doesn't deserve any more cent at all from any customer.- 183 replies
