  1. Sounds like its routine what you have done. At least for someone that updates there drivers. I've update my bios until they didn't release anymore, the 5 year support for my motherboard was up. HP i know had or has similier update software and MSI does too for their products. All automated or semi sutomated, after awhile the companys stop support. You must be young or pretty new to computers to not know of driver updates from manufactures. If you build your own computer, you have components from all different companys to get rather than from one location/ web site. Sometimes you find like DELL wont supply drivers anymore, so you identify the hardware and look for the real manufacture that made the part in your pre built computer and find updates for it. You have to be carefully, some companys get hardware and manufacture it out of spec and the original manufacture might have a driver, but it might not quit work. But everythings gotten better since i started with PC computers. Better detection overall. You'll see, your a resourceful type of person.
  2. EAWPRO NoCD version

Yeah DVD is 4.7 gigs or DL 8+ gigs. Not interested in making a DVD, not enough room if I tackle the larger archive. If I had a blue ray I'd make that . But I would just dump my file archive as is into the blue ray, wouldn't even bother picking files to add to the disc. So I'm using the max of 700mb disc images. I used 578mbs so far..... As far as the rest of the lasting of the game. You have to understand that the game needs to be directx and hardware coded for modern machines like win10. Otherwise its still using compatibility. The CodeGroup doesn't know how to do the necessary work. Regardless new documents and etc are reapearing to code old DX games to new levels. EAW is DX6 with input and sound basically DX5. I've updated the request on help coding. I don't know if those guys have gotten any feedback in the past few years or not. For someone intrested in doing this. Anyways If you want a one-click thingy, you'll have to make an archive by yourself or make an iso by yourself. But an automated installer typically are ad supported for free ones, you can try to find one to use/configure. I don't know much about it. Get a folder with EAW v1.0 in it and paste over EAWPRO files. Try to determine which files are not needed and delete them I guess until you have a small footprint of a game and burn that folder to a CD or make a 7z out of it. I have no interest myself as I know the files get updated all the time and would just complicate things. Everyone good luck with the one click install!
  3. EAWPRO NoCD version

I know you want a one click installer. Its just not reasonable to do so. VBH's EAWPRO evolves. The CodeGroup have one click 7-zip installers for the standalones. But they change so often you have to discipline yourself to wait for the one download to become available, and bypass all the updates in between. We can't really do better, not without some help from others that could spare there time and pre package EAW in one form or another and release so called complete versions as time permits. As I mentioned I'm making my own CD, I used 540 MB out of 700MB. Is there any important files I should add to the CD as if it was made into todays era? I have all the files expanded so everything is just layed out openly. I removed the CD auto installer and setup files. Thats a few megs and a mass of confusion removed. We can't use the installer anymore without issues anyhow. I left the media files from the install in there own folder. BMPs and two WAV files. I have the patches in there own folders, they just need to be dropped into the games root folder anytime you need to update them. But only the English patches are there. I decided the other lang was redundant and confusing. I have the pdf manual there and the offical FAQ and default key assignment page. I added the nocd fixes , for all three versions if someone needs them, and the nomovies.cdf too. eawpixpac is in there too . I don't know if I should put the other offical modding tools on it or not. I don't know if theres a complete donwload for them. plus a few other files. Anybody have any ideas. This is my personal ISO that I would love to burn to a CD for my uses, mostly just to play around with a so called ultimate EAW CD.
  4. EAWPRO NoCD version

lol, ha ha Crazy. :) I was putting together a 700MB iso for my self to burn to a CD-ROM. But Perhaps I want to move all the installer files to a separate folder. Once I do that then that would leave the simple v1.0 files behind in the root directory of my CD. Thus, all I would have to do is copy the files over, or the folder over to my system when needed. I'm putting all MPS files on there with very few thirdparty files, if any. Just the basic stuff is what I'm putting on it, but still. I'm not finished deciding what particular files I want on the CD as I'm limited to 700MB. So its not done. I can only suggest you to find a ISO of the CD or EAW download online if you can locate it. I've seen it in my travels in the past. in a few places, but never saved the links as I have a CD. The CodeGroup have been putting out standalones for the past 5 or more years now. But that won't work with the complete EAWPRO. I'd personally would like a standalone EAWPRO will the least possible files, but I don't know which files are needed and which are not. As there are files left in the folder which we don't need anymore. VBH may someday provide a standalone, but until then we'll have to apply EAWPRO to v1.x. You can for the time being grab the file on my site, the one thats missing files, and use that. It will run and such, just no music. You can even put EAWPRO over it. or you can take your CD and highlight the files that need copying over, as per my install instructions and then burn your own CD to make things easier for you later on. Let me know how you make out.
  5. EAWPRO NoCD version

I put it up there just for folks who needed it cause of Cd problems, but its not the complete CD. Its a v1.2 download (Its not the CD (1.0) version or even 1.1) Its missing the /music folder and all the movie files are missing as well. The original eaw.exe isn't there either, a replaced NoCd 1.2 exe is in it. You can't play the movies anyhow unless your using the DXWND wrapper I believe. The music folder was removed just to save space, but I highly recommend you get the CD with the music on it.
  6. EAWPRO NoCD version

The big advancement is that NO CD-Rom device needs to be present anymore. The NoCd fix was there before. For me I have an external DVD drive, it was a pain to keep turning it On just so the NoCD fix worked. This also help folks without any removal disk device on board their case. But just so you know, you still need the original EAW CD to get the stock files off of, then you over write some of those files with the EAWPRO files, this allows EAWPRO to work.
  7. Frame Rate Utilities

RIBob, No offense taken of course. I can't recall what I said to tell you the truth. However, in general, all counters will probably draw some speed from performance, but its so little on newer machines. True FPS is usually rated on full screen displays, as frame modes are less reliable since the game was designed for full screen and the counter is calibrated for full screen. As far as the rivatuner included with the msi afterburner video card oc tool. I haven't used it. There might be a Win10 Counter already. I know there's something in win10 called 'game bar' but I never used it. Seemed like too much overhead on the brief reading i did about it, or nothing worked with EAW. That's something you might consider RIBob. https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/113373-view-game-performance-game-bar-windows-10-a.html EDIT: I tried the game bar in win10. No FPS counter was in the new version unfortunately. However other counters where present to tell us the following: EAWPRO was using 24% of my CPU and 5% of my GPU System memory use was 1.8GB and Video Ram was 0.1GB used. (Defiantly no massive GPU/VRAM use) Russ, That's how I judge EAWv1.2, the un-official v1.26 and EAWPRO , by its smoothness and lack of jitter/lag. You can determine this rather quickly with the default quick start mission. Although I wish they had a basic counter included with them, you know built in that worked along side the included and adjustable update rates. But I dont touch those updates...just so you know. There will probably be a time I will, but I haven't since writing the help doc about them.
  8. Frame Rate Utilities

I don't recall saying that, but I know FRAPS was used back in the day (~1999) with EAW to get a FPS counter. Wrapper programs tend to have FPS counters built in as well. Typically I think most counters are calibrated for full screen use. Meaning you get a True FPS result on full screen only. But I could be wrong with specific ones.
  9. Advanced AI maneuvering

Although I read everything about this new Bomber AI routines that you (VBH) have supplied I'm still sorta confused at what its going to produce for results. Maybe I haven't read messages slowly enough yet. I mean I understand you been writing messages as to what your doing at the time with experiments but the outcome is a little hazy. I removed all text on the FXEXE Help Doc on my site regarding this new AI stuff, cause I was waiting for a more finalized answer. Perhaps I need to re read what you wrote and examine it more closely. My two questions are these: It seems to me that if your flying a Bomber in a formation you have -some- commands that work on the way to the target, and -some- that work after the bombs have been dropped? and What about when the Bombers are all AI, how do they behave on the way to the target, and how do they behave after the bombs have been dropped? Hope all is well. I know your excited about these new routines and code.
  10. You mentioned your clone drive wont work in the new computer..... Yup, the OS from one computer to another can't be done, as its branded with the motherboard and possibly other hardware. You should be able to get it working by repairing the install of the OS once its in the new computer, but then you have a licensing issue, which you most likely wont be able to activate. So you end up with either a limited Windows or limited time you can use it. It seems your learning some things the painful way, but your taking steps that anyone else would have taken if they where examining their options. I'd still go with a fixed caddy hardware slot to swap drives. Better than having to switch your boot device in the bios or menu before the os loads. But upto you.
  11. yeah, sorry for your problems, we all have something going on or other. Wish you the best. Keeps us posted on your progress.
  12. aw okay. :) Glad its working out for you.
  13. That link is a bit long and cryptic, not going to click on it. But none the less, glad you have what you wanted now. I have a full ATX case but the MB is Small. I screwed up when buying stuff and didn't care to send stuff back at the time. Just wondering if you have enough power in your power supply for the 1050 vid card and whatever else you need the power for, like cpu and mb. Or did it come with the vid card?
  14. Installing EAW

Install Help Document that I put together. https://eaw.neocities.org/install.html Its primarily for installing from the CD to patch upto v1.2, Tips to just to get you started are included. Also There are directions pointing you to fixing problems and usage for any player to read. Hope it helps.
  15. VM Machine on Win 10

I would not think 'hot swappable', but if you buy the right bay, you can have the ssd/hdd use it. Upto you which everyway you go dual boot or swappable...I'll be willing to hear your results.
  16. Installing EAW

I've since expanded the OS consideration paragraph and removed the VM info on the Install document. Its really not practical to try to get EAW to run on a VM machine, its too involved for me to suggest it and it might not work depending on hardware used.
  17. Installing EAW

Sure, Its in the the Troubleshoot Help document. It explains exactly what your saying, each os has issues with the game. I do mentioned in the Install doc the OS Consideration topic, to see the Troubleshoot Help Document for modern os issues. And again at the end of the document to see the same Help Doc. Win10, I prefer to have overall, but Win7 does/or did have a speed bonus in EAW performance. Win10 recent upgrade which fixed a problem with the menus switching slowly, so there working properly now.
  18. VM Machine on Win 10

I'll only seen one used once, its a bay in the computer that you have a special component/slot. You slide in the os drive and it connects to power and input and you turn on the computer just like any computer I guess. Not sure how safe it is , if you need to turn off the power supply or not.
  19. VM Machine on Win 10

I'd just go with removal drives, two separate drives, each with there own OS/Games on it. This way you can simply slide out one and slide the other in. Similar to dual boot, but much easier.
  20. VM Machine on Win 10

I think he told me hes using the VM built in the PRO version of Win10, which supports hardware Virtualization. https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/id-Virtualization/ That link above seems to have a lot of knowledge on the subject for Win10 BTW.
  21. EAW Devs

Well you have to go some where to get the files. Tally Ho (by sandbagger) has archived probably 87% of the available files and information since 2002. I managed to find older files and sorted them differently than he had. Which should make it easier to cherry pick files to post here at CombatACE. Like I said I'd do it, but my hands are full still organizing the files since I put them together in a newly but differently organized location.
  22. EAW Devs

I went through the downloads awhile back, many of the current EAW are not needed as I believe they are just repacks of other archives that could be uploaded. Also latter large downloads contain files that in a whole replace the the older downloads. I know I'm being vague here , but this was a few years ago I went through them. Perhaps contact the one user (I forgot his name, starts with an L) and see if he can remove those older packages that are spread-out, as his latest offering supersedes the older files he posted. Most of the information, such as modding tools and (minus how too' s) are on the Code Groups (Jels) Mediafire account) and Closed to non members FTP server. VBH of EAWPRO authoring uses his own tools and other old tools from the stock game. If you want files for stock EAW there are plenty at: http://www.thatoneplease.co/Tally-Ho/ and my acount at mediafire https://www.mediafire.com/folder/0e8990vqszo0n/EAW Perhaps some EAW members at your CombatACE forum could post files and descriptions here to help out. I have my hands full with the html page I have for downloads ( https://eaw.neocities.org/files.html ) It does not nearly have all DLs listed though.
  23. Let's ADD to This Forum

I find a lot of people that start EAW up again use the patched stock game the most. (my EAWHS site location on the net: https://eaw.neocities.org/ ) I've seen some of those people ask about the other versions and types of the game shortly after they find out about them. Hence now my 'First Use Help Document' was written to notify them sooner than later as the case was before my site was reorganized. I whole heartily believe in all my Help Docs (except where noted :) , but the First Use Help Doc is important. It may save some users time by jumping straight into EAWPRO or the CodeGroups standalones. Even if they go stock and then add hex edited exe versions they will be well off to having fun building up from stock to a custom private build with community created game data. Thanks again RIBob.
  24. Let's ADD to This Forum

I only had the site since I think Feb 2015, or was it 2016? heh can't recall right now. So the real work (VBH and CodeGroup with their games) where supporting a small group of followers too. and anyhow like I said you helped me a lot with feedback, which helped others. So you count in regards to supporting EAW as well. No need to be so hard on yourself regarding where you stand with computers, from what you tell me your doing just fine with them. I'm no expert myself, I carry on like everyone else, wondering how to do things, and how to in the right way. Thanks for your help and support.
  25. Let's ADD to This Forum

@RIBob Not sure why you keep thinking less of yourself as far as EAW technical stuff goes / or for any reason. You've given me a ton of quirky info that I needed to be added to my Help Site. Hence VBH and You wanted it reorganized, so I did it. Took all night one night, but I got most of it in place during that time. :) I don't know if cross posting here at CombatACE and SimHQ EAW forums is ideal. However, Maybe it is, I find that I give different info on similar topics based on responses in each forum. Its hectic to maintain ones deliverance of info when divided by two locations. But Again However, I find Some topics get polluted quickly with some posters not staying on topic, and they derail it. Sometimes the similar topic on the other forum remains on the original posters subject. LOL. I'm just being funny. But I do know derailed threads are harmful for those seeking true feedback. To me I just write up a new help doc and call it a day :) That Help doc can be viewed over and over again and be ready for anyone who cares for it. PS I've just noticed my Reputation is a +7. Ha. I don't really use that feature for anything so I won't be worrying about using that click bait stuff for anyone either. :) I can express it in my posts with text, thank you for understanding...... BTW I responded to your current PM recently ;)
