Help needed with Mirage IIIV FM

Map the throttleinput of the lift jets to the thrust vector. That way you can control them separately from the main engine. -
Plane casts no shadow? Tailfin says ROK AF?

It is set up like this now, but unfortunately that also precludes carrying a droptank on the centerline for AA missions while carrying the tanks on the wing stations takes away the ability to carry Sparrow or Sidewinder there. -

Less than two weeks, if I can help it. Some cockpit issues remain and may add a dedicated droptank. Also, and I'm not sure what the designers intended, but I added inner wing stations and the centerline station. The official references do not show anything else other than the wingtip and recessed Sparrow stations which IMO seems ridiculously limited. One problem that I haven't figured out is how the Sparrows launch if anything is carried on the centerline like a fueltank or whatever. Carrying droptanks on the wing stations leaves only the centerline for offensive stores. What do you think? -
That's horrible. My condolences.

Apparently it was the gas they vented from the containment building that exploded. The actual containment building and reactor core are undamaged and radiation levels are dropping.

From .bmp to .dds, Toshop and Nvidia Plugin
Julhelm replied to FrankD's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
I think it autogenerates mipmaps the first time you save the .dds file. Regenerating the mipmaps is in case you have a set of mipmaps already, say 6 and want to reduce it to only 2 levels or if you want to apply some filter to the mipmaps or change them in any way in an existing .dds file. A great tool for compressing .dds is ATI Compressonator which gives you a few more options on optimizing quality vs size. -

It's in the exporter where it says "mipmap levels". I usually set it to 2 so if I'm exporting a 2048 texture it then gets 1024 and 512, etc. -

I use two levels of mipmaps. If you don't use mipmaps, textures will appear to "crawl" and look ugly in the distance. -

Check the autoback folder in documents/3dsmax. Max autosaves 3 copies of the last file you were working on. Has saved me many times. -

SF2 Future?
Julhelm replied to Wodin's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Cockpits aren't really that hard to make. They're tedious to do but the actual model and texture work is no different from anything else. Environments are by far harder to do because you need a lot more content and any one flaw will likely break the immersion completely. IMO SF suffers from an imbalance of detail as the planes and cockpits are real good but the terrain has not evolved since 2002 and it looked dated back then. Just simple things like better autogen vegetation, SSAO and world-reflecting water and per-tile bump and specular maps would help immensely. Likewise adding a lightmap to the stock props like the carrier and tanks would instantly make them look ten times better, and it is really not that difficult to do for a seasoned programmer. -

How about fitting rocket pods on the centerline? Also I think it'd look much cooler if you put a longer-barreled gun on it, such as the 3-barrel one used on the Cobra. Now that I think of it a curved canopy like on the Whiskey Cobra would look cooler than the stepped one IMO. -

How about rotating gun/micro missile turret like on the BAe SABA concepts? Also, the XFU5-1 had integrated footsteps all along the spine for crew entry. -

Is that the one with Jürgen Prochnow where his band of terrorists hijack a USAF C-5 in midair (They use a fake KC-135 and somehow enter through the refuelling boom) which is carrying a couple of F-117's equipped with some hi-tech VR system, where towards the end they just drop the 117's out the back of the C-5, unfold the wings in midair and then have a dogfight, with the hero shooting down Prochnow with an IR Maverick? "Interceptor" I think it was called.
